Genz Benz Shuttle 9.0 Appreciation Thread

I was close to purchasing the Shuttle 6.0, but I'm re-thinking based in part on this thread. I don't want do this again any time soon (i.e. buy the 6.0 only to trade up). Problem is, I'm planning to start with only a single Bergantino AE112 or HT112ER cab and I'm concerned about the power mismatch. Eventually, a second 112 may be in the cards, and the 900W at 4 ohms would provide reasonable headroom. Guess I would have to go easy on the gain/volume controls :hmm:

I think a 9.0 is the better way to go...it's got a bit more tone magic than the 6.0, looots of headroom and power and still rather cheap. I love the way it makes an Avatar 112 sound, I'm just careful not to let it fart on me. It's not hard, until everyone elses volume gets loud then that's what second cabs or DIs are for.

I had the switches from old busted fx and begone amp switches. The box came from tri-state, a local shop for me but I noticed fry's carries the same thing. I got piccies of it somewhere, unless they're gone now?

Oh, this IS a FUNK amp. I've been using it to test my diy filter pedals. Its a monster for The Funk. Other amps already have color, and it may be a great color, but its a color and your stuck with it. I don;t feel that way with this head. I can hear what all my pedals and basses do. And the cabinets you plug into, you really hear what they do to your sound too, for better or worse.

Wow, this thread is awesome! I am a soon-to-be owner of the 9.0 (on order). I was pretty excited before but this thread just made me feel like I was 8 years old on christmas day again!!

Question:
I know someone posted something about installing a different tube in there, what would the tonal differences be? Warmer? More tube gain? "Fatter"? I have always been a solid state player so I have limited experience playing tube (pre)amps.

I'm one who tried a different tube. Like others have mentioned, the difference is slight versus major. After some heavy duty reading I tried a Tung-Sol for a slightly warmer sound. It was warmer but I soon decided that I liked the factory installed Ruby tube better and the Tung-Sol is sitting on the shelf.

I guess Jeff knows what he's doing ;)

Yes .. and in any combination..
I had a funky outside stage with an OLD ampeg 810 wher ei had to use the mid scoop but boost the mids with the semi parametric section..
I have never used the mid button before. But it worked. And it can easily turn an 810 into a whining puppy..
I have found out over time that the 9.0 is a beast

Those 3 "presets" can be used together, right?

My 9.0 just arrived via the brown truck today! I had a few minutes at lunch to plug it in and try it out, and it will get its first major workout this weekend. I have no doubt that this amp will fill the bill big time!

I have to agree. The 9.0 seems to be one of the most usable heads I've owned. A while back I wrote about an Acoustic 810box and amp I got for backline. It sounded...er....wretched. I had the 9.0 with me so I hooked it up. I used much more of the eq options than I usually would, but it sounded completely musical and kicked the Acoustic 810's butt.

There are a couple of eBay retailers who occasionally have some good deals on the Shuttle 9.0. GuitarConnection (where I got mine) has a new 9.0 on eBay for $699. No bag though.

Above deal is better, but just in case it doesn't work out ...

The Shuttle 9 isn't even listed on their website, so I wonder if they even have it in stock. I would be wary.
He didn't have it in stock. He ordered one for me a while back, and he received it today. Genz Benz has a "fall special," hence the cheap price. He shipped the amp out to me today, and sent me the tracking number 30 minutes after wards. Great guy.

Just Best Offer on ebay if you want the bag and amp for 650ish. That is how I got mine for $700, then I found out others were getting them for less.

60% of the time it works every time;)

there are 4 different ebay stores offering Best Offer, not every store gives insane deals but "Andrew's Music" where I got mine will give it to you for less than $700.
