Genz Benz Shuttle 9.0 Appreciation Thread

I racked mine for a very short time but found it easier to keep it in the front pocket of my gig bag. The vents are on the side and there's plenty of space on either side when it's racked so you shouldn't have an issue with it overheating.

FYI, I had an issue one night with a sketchy power situation and unplugging the Shuttle 9 from the power conditioner and going directly into the wall seemed to take care of the problem.

I really feel like this is the bass amp for me and it matches my setup perfectly but can't find one locally to try out. I was able to try a Genz-Benz shuttle 6.0 out of its paired 1x12 in the store and it didn't sound that great but I'm blaming that on the 1x12.

My cabs:
Avatar 2x10 Neo 500 watts 8 ohms
Avatar 2x12 Neo 500 watts 8 ohms

I'm considering an SVT-4 Pro (about the same price used) but I don't think I'll ever use it to its full potential. I'm never planning on getting an 8x10 or anything like that. Also, I'm not too thrilled about how heavy it is. I like to keep it portable.

My 2 questions:
1) Has anyone had any experience buying an Amp sight unseen online and then returning it? If so, was there a restocking fee/etc?

2) Is the Shuttle 6.0 a good representation of how the 9.0 will sound? I can always bring my cabs to the store that had the 6.0 and if I like the sound, order it from them.

1) Sure. Most of the online music sites (Musicians Friend, etc.) let you return an item for any reason within 45 days. You just pay for return shipping.

2) A frequent comment is that the 9.0 has a bit more low end than the 3.0/6.0 to accommodate larger cabs at higher volumes.

#2 is a really good thing :)

I never had to use Musician's Friend's return policy but that's awesome. 45 days no questions asked. Love it!

I asked about this in another 9.0 thread- changing the preamp tube to an Electro Harmonix. Well I did it with stellar results. It's a much smoother, sweeter tone with the EHX than the Ruby that came in it. I really liked my 9.0 before, but now I love it.

With that setup you'd have to enjoy it. Have you tried the 9.0 with Ubers? Any thoughts on the comparison between Uber and Berg?

Thanks! Well, you know those Northern Michigan clubs! Sketchy Power indeed. Been there, done that.

Still trying to decide whether to rack it or bag it. Decisions, decisions.

Just gigged last night with the S9/NV610. For the first time since I sold my Acoustic 360 I am back in the tone zone. Only thing I'm thinking now is possibly to add a Trace Bright Box if I can find one.

Anyhow, the S9 is one truly amazing little box. Unbelievable.

I usually run mine just like this with only ever needing to notch the mid down a click depending on the bass . It gives up a killer thick and tube colored tone . And did I mentioned how killer the D.I. is :D:bassist: After using this amp in several situations now , a few thoughts... it runs very cool even after long operation times and being pushed . I often don't need as much volume as I think I need once the band starts moving air , even with a loud drummer I don't think I've gone past 10:00 on the master yet and almost always settle with it around 9:00 and the D.I. is worth it's weight in gold , did I mention the D.I. :D love*

I am assuming you are running @ 4ohms with these settings in a band situation, yes?

Disclaimer: I don't know those particular cabs. Also, there is an earlier post from another TB'er saying that his S9 "ran out of gas" with an NV610.

I have had quite the opposite experience; and, yes, the S9 opens up most excellently with the NV610 for me. That cab really likes to be pumped and the S9 really can dish it out. I have toyed with it up around noon on the Master just in the home studio for short periods, and it is absurdly almost pointlessly loud and sounds like it is nowhere near running out of gas. So, no issues with headroom for me. GREAT rig. Can only assume with other big cabs it would be comparably useful.

traded svt-4pro and two 4x10 swr for shuttle 9 and one 2x10 neo cab. i cannot get over how much power this amp can produce. most of my gigs use ears so i dont even run an amp, but i do a rock thing and being able to replace the tower i had with a rig i can carry in one hand is phenomenal. live is all about FOH anyway, the bass amp is a glorified monitor. does it sound like a 70's SVT? no, but only a 70's SVT sounds like that anyway and no one else can hear the difference playing live. the studio is a different matter all together. for a live rig, i'm really impressed with the technology GB uses. Can't say enough good things about it.
