Genz Benz Shuttle 9.0 Appreciation Thread

I had some extra knobs around so I put them on the Shuttle. They don't look as good as the aluminum knobs, but they are so much easier to read. What do y'all think?

I'm in the "like it better" camp...both for look and function. Nice.

If someone with more ambition than I have finds knobs like these on line, please post/share your source.

One comment on the GB pots themselves...really like that "notched" turning feel...things stay in place better during transit, etc. vs. smoother turning LMII knobs, for example.

I was thinking about trying these:

I believe that they would still fit in the case as they are only twice tall as the shuttle's current feet.

Another option might be Vibrapods (I use these in my home theater rig). Throw 'em under the amp and then just chuck the pods in the bag's pocket and not worry about fitting inside the already snug amp section of the bag. Come to think of it, I might try this as well...think I've got some spares somewhere.

Yesterday I had a small gig as a acoustic guitarist. (guitar with build in pickup)

Brought my Shuttle 9.0 to use it as a DI.

Worked like a charm!
The Genz Benz DI's are fantastic. Never had a single issue with any of them. The 9.0 is quite simply an amazing piece of gear. I'm a bit upset with myself for not having ordered it long before now.

So I finally took delivery on my custom 2x3015lf and 2x 6.5mid range cab. I bought the 9.0 for this cab specifically.
Just started breaking it in with the 9.0 and am impressed.
The 9.0 is gonna have plenty of headroom and EQ for this big cab. Nice head Genz Benz!

So, as I await delivery of my 9.0, I have read thru all these post and I have a question for you all. Everone raves about the DI, but, what is the preference here, pre or post?
Thanks.
There is no right or wrong answer necessarily, but it is customary to send a Pre-EQ signal. This is a considered a professional standard. If you run a lot of effects, then those are typically engaged after your pre-EQ signal, and a second feed is taken to get the FX, either from another DI or by mic'ing the cab. The sound engineer can then blend the two as necessary.

Thanks for the quick hits guys.
Thing is, we do our own mix. I like to record every gig and I was just wondering if using post would create any distortion in the mix/recording. Also it would help me to fine tune my eq to hear it in the live recording.
BTW is anyone using an Acme B-2 with the 9.0?
Again, my thanks

I now have a Shuttle 9.0!!!! :D

I posted the text below in the Bergantino AE212 thread, but since there's so much Shuttle content in it I figured I'd post it up here for everyone. I can't believe I waited so long to pick a 9.0 up! After absolutely loving a GBE 1200, Neo-pak and Shuttle 6.0, why the hell did I not do this sooner?

--repost below--

Shuttle 9.0 is here. I've been banging on this combo for an hour or so now. Versus the RH450, the AE212/Shuttle 9.0 has a MUCH better sound all the way around, as if they were designed in tandem. The Shuttle will drive the absolute snot out of the AE212 without the output limit light ever flashing. It's just wonderful sounding. Run flat, it's very aggressive with an ultra tight bottom that I like, with much more top end than the RH450 provided. I've never really used the filters on the Genz heads, but the LF Boost on the 9.0 actually sounds really good with the AE212 since it just lowers that high pass filter without really boosting any bass. It's kind of like an on/off switch for a pillowy bottom. VERY nice. Maybe I'll actually use it some time.

For me though, leaving the filters off and dialing up the lows to about 1 or 1:30 with my 55-02 was just instant gratification. Still a bit aggressive but smoother sounding. To get it even smoother still, taking a touch off around 1k just sounds incredible. This is the tone I've been missing for quite a while. Since the AE212 is so aggressive sounding, scooping a bit out at 1k still has a lot of bite, but it's buried in the other frequencies at this point. The resulting tone is more modern sounding without being anemic. For my goals, I much prefer this approach versus trying to add 1k to a smooth sounding cab which just seems to make it honky or clanky.

I turned down the Tweeter to about 10 o'clock which is just right for me. With the Shuttle treble set at noon, it seems to give me the perfect blend, and boosting just a touch adds some nice sizzle. Since the Shuttle's treble is at 4k, just like the crossover on the AE212, cutting treble has the effect of pulling that sizzle out quickly if you want, and it gets warm and round. I don't think I need a VLE or PTC at all from what I'm hearing.

This almost makes me wonder if Jim Bergantino and Andy at Genz worked together on this and decided not to tell anyone about it. Very nice synergy going on. Can't wait to get this on a gig, but I can already tell it will be wonderful. I'll never need much more than about 75% of the total volume this thing can put out, which is just right given the form factor. I'm a happy camper!

Side Note: I also bet this head would KILL with a Neox 212!

Thanks for sharing. This sounds fantastic for you and with a very well thought out and controlled EQ approach.
+1

I want to connect the male jack (1/4") output of my 8 inch Genz Benz speaker to the Speakon input of the 9.0.

Anyone knows how to accomplish this?

You need to use an adapter cable, Speak-On to 1/4"TS female.

I want to caution you on this though, the 9.0 can deliver ~550 watts at 8 ohms which is enough to drive that speaker right out of the box at low frequencies if you are not careful. You do not want to use the LF extend or much bass eq if you need any real volume.

been running the 9.0 close to six months now, & i'd have to say that it smokes all of the other heads i've had to date.

:hyper::hyper::hyper: absolutely love it :hyper::hyper::hyper:

Human BaseX.oc5 just got in. AE410's on the way. Hot Deals section just coughed up a winner, so the itchy trigger finger popped a cap. New 9.0's comin' on back home to Tempe :) woot!

Right. So. I'm gonna go unsubscribe all my RSS classified feeds and remove my card from my Paypal account now.

Er. Does GAS reset on New Years? Please tell me GAS doesn't reset on New Years.

Professional. live applications call for a pre feed. Having said that, when I was a pro, I used to "mandate" a post feed.

This was because "back in the day", most soundmen....even very sought after pros, weren't used to bass guitar being very "mid"..."fusion" voiced. They would usually ad too much bottom end and the more intricate things I'd do would get lost in the mix.

I always go post, mainly because one of my favorite Genz features is the rolled-off low end... I HATE when soundmen make me rumbly, and they do it all the time around here. If I dont' send it, they can't crank it :)

That said, I also mix the preamp channels on my GBE 1200 and have the tube gain set to grind when I dig in during certain songs/parts. Pre-EQ = no grind.
