Genz Benz Shuttle 9.0 Appreciation Thread

Nice. :bassist:

Hey guys, been a 9.0 owner for about 9-10 months now. Are the rackmount kits for these hidden with the Ark of the Covenant or something?!? I can't find the damn things anywhere!!!

Give Jeff a call at the factory, he will get you hooked up.

Cool I'll have to do the same :)

Gigged my 9.0 a few more times now with the 212T and I really couldn't be happier. I record a lot of my gigs and listening back to the ones with the shuttle 9, I can't really explain it too well as I'm not too technical about these things, but the tone just kind of hits my center and gives me a warm feeling inside. Like, when listening back to my old amp the tone sort of formed a circle around me, maybe described as a bit boomy with a lot of high overtones, whereas with the shuttle it goes right thru me and thumps in my chest. Is this maybe what they mean by 'tight and focused'? I hope that makes sense. on one song I was pedalling with a pick on a low D and wow, it was just euphoric. As loud as I need to be it never gets harsh or brittle. In fact this rig seems to sound better and better the more I push it.

Hmm so THIS is what it's like to have great gear :D

The 9.0 is on it's way!
Currently I own a 3.0-8T. And I am very pleased with it.
However, I use a 8 ohm Barefaced Midget that can handle a lot of power.
The 175 watt of the 3.0-8T is a little to less.
So I am heading for a single & feather weight cab solution.

And the 3.0? As a reward for it's services the new owner is going to bring it to Indonesia. Much too cold around here.
So this amp travels the world. I bought it from Rocket Music, they shipped it to The Netherlands and now it's heading for Indonesia.

I'm going to keep the 8" cab for practicing at home.

One more thing: I am really impressed by the quality and simplicity of the Shuttle. And blown away by the CS of Genz. I was in doubt between the Shuttle and the RH450. Genz won because of their track record.

So one farewell picture of my 3.0.
Hopefully the picture of the 9.0 follows soon.

Tonight Monster Bassist Doug Johns played at Music Garage /CPE and we ended up talking gear for a few minutes. His tone thru the Shuttle 9 and the Uber 410 was Very thick. Exactly what I have been looking for. Doug by the way is a super nice, cool cat and I persuaded him to join up talkbass....of course I called it tuberculosis.com:D:hiding:

Yeah, its me chicago_mike....my hotmail got hax0rd.

Okay so what we need is a shuttle users CD. Requirement is just use the DI out, or mix the DI out with a mic. :)

I recently did a studio spot as a hired gun. I used my Shuttle 9.0 as a DI to the Board. Engineer loved it. I let him play around with it. He was really impressed at how it sounded.

If these guys ever shoot me some final mixes I'll post some. All the tunes are 4 string Electric except for one I used my Emanuel Wilfer on.

I now have a Shuttle 9.0!!!! :D

I posted the text below in the Bergantino AE212 thread, but since there's so much Shuttle content in it I figured I'd post it up here for everyone. I can't believe I waited so long to pick a 9.0 up! After absolutely loving a GBE 1200, Neo-pak and Shuttle 6.0, why the hell did I not do this sooner?

--repost below--

Shuttle 9.0 is here. I've been banging on this combo for an hour or so now. Versus the RH450, the AE212/Shuttle 9.0 has a MUCH better sound all the way around, as if they were designed in tandem. The Shuttle will drive the absolute snot out of the AE212 without the output limit light ever flashing. It's just wonderful sounding. Run flat, it's very aggressive with an ultra tight bottom that I like, with much more top end than the RH450 provided. I've never really used the filters on the Genz heads, but the LF Boost on the 9.0 actually sounds really good with the AE212 since it just lowers that high pass filter without really boosting any bass. It's kind of like an on/off switch for a pillowy bottom. VERY nice. Maybe I'll actually use it some time.

For me though, leaving the filters off and dialing up the lows to about 1 or 1:30 with my 55-02 was just instant gratification. Still a bit aggressive but smoother sounding. To get it even smoother still, taking a touch off around 1k just sounds incredible. This is the tone I've been missing for quite a while. Since the AE212 is so aggressive sounding, scooping a bit out at 1k still has a lot of bite, but it's buried in the other frequencies at this point. The resulting tone is more modern sounding without being anemic. For my goals, I much prefer this approach versus trying to add 1k to a smooth sounding cab which just seems to make it honky or clanky.

I turned down the Tweeter to about 10 o'clock which is just right for me. With the Shuttle treble set at noon, it seems to give me the perfect blend, and boosting just a touch adds some nice sizzle. Since the Shuttle's treble is at 4k, just like the crossover on the AE212, cutting treble has the effect of pulling that sizzle out quickly if you want, and it gets warm and round. I don't think I need a VLE or PTC at all from what I'm hearing.

This almost makes me wonder if Jim Bergantino and Andy at Genz worked together on this and decided not to tell anyone about it. Very nice synergy going on. Can't wait to get this on a gig, but I can already tell it will be wonderful. I'll never need much more than about 75% of the total volume this thing can put out, which is just right given the form factor. I'm a happy camper!

Side Note: I also bet this head would KILL with a Neox 212!

It has been told to me that you need a lot of power to produce the sound (notes & fundamentals) that comes from the bass frequency. At the very lest, a good bass tone, the way you describe it, should begin with 800 watts...ASK some sound engineers, they should know and probably can better explain it.

My $.02 only! Keep :bassist:
