Genz Benz Shuttle 9.0 Appreciation Thread

I always go post, mainly because one of my favorite Genz features is the rolled-off low end... I HATE when soundmen make me rumbly, and they do it all the time around here. If I dont' send it, they can't crank it :)

That said, I also mix the preamp channels on my GBE 1200 and have the tube gain set to grind when I dig in during certain songs/parts. Pre-EQ = no grind.

EXACTLY. Soundmen have this paradigm about bass. That's one reason I play a Ken Smith too. Even soundmen can't ruin it in the mix. Almost any other bass, they can make it disappear by ruining the mids or they can make it all rumbly. They have a hard time doing that with my Smith.

Concur 100%, which is why my weapon of choice live is my Warwick Thumb :) My primary band is a 4-piece hard rock/metal project with a lot of double-kick, so a typical bass mix turns our speedy kicks into a muddy mess... unacceptable. I'm a big fan of Genz gear anyway, but the 1200/Uber/Thumb combo gives me a killer, heavy, well-defined sound right in that low-mid to mid area that I operate in between the drums and the guitar.

Same here with my Stingray :D

So another gig last night, and another gushing post about the Shuttle 9. The honeymoon is far from over. Is it possible for an amp to have better sustain? I know it sounds odd but I feel like since I started using this amp, when I play any long notes they sustain more consistently.

This is the 4th gig with it and I am still getting great comments from the band, too.

You need to use an adapter cable, Speak-On to 1/4"TS female.

I want to caution you on this though, the 9.0 can deliver ~550 watts at 8 ohms which is enough to drive that speaker right out of the box at low frequencies if you are not careful. You do not want to use the LF extend or much bass eq if you need any real volume.

Thank you! I thought about the adapter, but maybe the cable from the 8T is a bit to short.
So I will look for an adapter cable.

Thanks for the caution. The 8T is only for personal practicing purposes. I wouldn't dare to use it in a loud environment.

i was thinking of getting the UBER 410 to pair with my shuttle 9.0 but, i don't know wether to get the 4 or 8 ohm. :help:

we only make a 4 ohm. The funny thing is that we've had almost zero call for an 8 ohm. We'd add it if we had call. With all these "4 ohm minimun" heads on the market, I would have expected a demand.

You'd have thought so, but the new reality seems to be that two cabs negates the purpose of going light in the first place, and guys are getting so much out of a light head and one good 4 ohm cab that nobody except the "big tour/big venue guys" need anything more.

Heck, my GBE400 is enough to carry any gig I've done for years, and if I could sell my GBE1200 I'd be grabbing a 9.0, (or maybe a Streamliner ) in a second.

I can only speak for myself, but I think if I was at the level where I'd be running 2 Uber cabs it would be with the shuttlemax 12 (or other equivalent 2ohm min head). Maybe that's a part of it?

+1 I concur. :D

I kind of like the original, but when those LED's are going it's hard to see that little black dot. And the more you try to get down to eye-level with it, the more blinding the lights become. I like these knobs because I can glance at one from 10 feet away and know where it is set.

I really need to quit tinkering and get back to my day job. :help:

The LEDs are killing my eyes. Is there a solution for that?

I've never really bothered, though I have put gaffers tape over them on occasion because the videographer was complaining about them creating starbursts. I would think that a bit of black acrylic dabbed right on the tip of the LED would stop the beaming effect let still let light come around the edges so that you could see what's happening. I've not tried it.

I just recieved a Shuttle 9.0 fiquring I can't go wrong with all of the great reviews and loving my Shuttle 6.0 so much
I did get a couple of minutes last night between all of the other chaos around here to A/B my 6.0 with the 9.0 before I shipped it out and the 2 big differences that I noticed was the clarity and how much more bass the 9.0 has with the EQ set flat.
I have tried several different tubes in my 6.0 including a EH 12AX7 and it never sounded as good as the 9.0 sounds with a EH 12AX7 tube in it.
I can't wait to open it up on my Aggie GS-412 and see how that is going to sound.

Well, count me in as a believer, paired with my Acme B-2, it sounds great. Tone shaping is very flexable. The lows are very deep, but, tight sounding, no slop. Looking foward to my first gig I will use it on, a small room that I do not DI into the PA. Should be a good test of tone.
Merry Christmas all

The newly announced ShuttleMAX 9 is very tempting. However, after thinking it over I'm so happy with the size, weight, power and tone of my Shuttle 9 that I'm going to take a pass. A ShuttleMAX 18 on the other hand .... :)
