Genz Benz Shuttle 9.0 discussion thread

The shuttle 9 is louder than my SVT..
I see you are in dallas....Hey i live just north of Dallas... PM me and i ll give you my number..and i can drop by one day with my shuttle for you to try..
Im heading on a fly date to santa fe and then houston this weekend but will be back in town Wednesday if you wanted to meet to try the 9.0.. The shuttle is going with me again... never know what cabs im gonna get usually an 810 though,,

I picked up a 9.0 today but feeling like I'm seeking the tones from the 12.0. The only thing that really worries me is that I'm already backing the 9.0 down because I'm clipping the amp with my lows. Now if I'm interested in going with the 12.0, a reduction in 300w may pose even a greater problem there... dunno....

Tried both on a SVT810, and the 9.0 did sound a bit louder than the 12.0. But just thinking if that 12.0 might be a better choice so I can get more upper tone controls....

Are you hearing clipping...or is it just the lights coming on? What type of cabinet are you running into and what are your settings?

just noticed your cab on your profile. Is that a 4 ohm cab? ....and if you give me your amp and bass settings (if active), that will help. In "o'clock" format....and if you are using the signal shaping.

After lots of playing yesterday here are my thoughts on this head vs. other micros I've tried:

This thing has sparkle that just puts a smile on my face. It gets SVT7 loud without cutting out on me like the SVT7 it replaced, however, the LIMIT light goes one at these levels but I don't mind it as much now that it's yellow:). Still getting use to and trying to pin point the sonic differences at this point. It's plenty loud with out ever tripping the LIMIT. I'm still determining the best preamp settings, I'm surprised how many lovable ones can be found with two knobs.

It sounds great with filters, realy great. All the tones rolled off by the warm creamy RH450 come to life with the 9.0. Not that filters didn't sound good with the RH, they just sound more lively with the GB.

I don't find the preshapes to extreme, unless used all at once. I don't see the HF boost coming off any time soon. The HF slaps delicious with the LF. I haven't seeked out to much warmth yet, but initially it seems very warm with less gain and a slight cut of the uper mids. I don't expect it to have as many great warm tones as the RH450 but one is good enough for me.

This head is just as loud with out cutting out as the 1000W SVT7 and much louder than MarkBass F1 and RH450 through a SVT 410HE and an Avatar 112. I play a 4 string J-bass with med-light DR strings through a j-retro preamp in active Anne passive modes.

I say clipping, but its more of the bottom end "farting" out on the cab. If the limit light is on and I hit the B string (gets really bad on the 12th + frets on B string). I have to really compress my Low end to make sure the cab doesn't sound like it is "bottoming out" from the amp. This could just be from lower watts :eyebrow:

Here is a picture below of what I have it currently set at. My bass is an American Fender Jazz Deluxe V with the EQ flat and volume at 100% and the cab is an Ampeg SVT610HLF 4ohm....

Overall, I'm impressed with the amp, just not happy with when I hit my B string from frets 12,13,14,15ish...... Farts out pretty bad.

Do you think this could be fixed with tossing the 610 and getting like 2 410s or 410 & 15? And do you think this would be even a greater problem if I went with the ShuttleMax 12.0

What is the status of the three signal switches engaged or not engaged?

Actually from the picture, I have it "somewhat" tamed. I know this amp can push more dB but not on the low end. As you can see, I have it set to the max before it really bottoms out.

However, I do have my Aphex Factory punch compressing down some of it. If you just notch up 1 of the gain controls, you can kiss the bottom end control goodbye.

Dunno, maybe I'm pushing it pretty hard already? Again, I would really like to go with the 12.0, but with a reduction in 300w, I'm guessing this would even be a greater problem.

The amp has tons of tight low end. I'm guessing you are reaching the limits of your cab.

I have this problem using my Upright Bass through my 2x10 cab. I solved it with the High Pass filter on the Fdeck Preamp with my Upright. My bass puts out so much ultra low the cab can not take it. I realize you have a 6x10 but that paticular cab is pretty ineffeicient causing you to push to get what you seek.

You might look at a much more effecient and robust 4x10. Like the Uber 4x10.

My old Ampeg cab gave me fits till I went in another directrion. Any amp that could really put out would all too often find me reaching the X-Max limit of the drivers.

Given the generally inaccuracy of manufacturer's specifications, I'm wondering if the sensitivity of Ampeg's 6x10" is really that low compared to other manufacturer's 4x10"s. Perhaps Ampeg is just being more honest about the numbers? If so, going to a different 4x10" would be a step backward.

Since I owned one, I can attest they are inefficient and lower X-Max than a number of newer designs. Not bad cabs but not up to todays more efficient specs.

hmm...it doesn't look like you're over eq'ing but, with the LF engaged, you are running quite a bit of low end.

Two things-
* This is possibly a cabinet issue.
* Have you tried lowering the gain and increasing the master?
