I've had my Shuttle 6.0 for a while now, and finally got to try it out with a full band just today. Next weekend I have some gigs lined up, but today it was rehearsal.
I was _very_ happy. Paired with my Avatar 2x12, the Shuttle was a marvel. I kept making everyone pick it up just to see how light it was. Most of them were non-plussed, though my drummer seemed impressed. Silly non-bass players.
The tone was fantastic. Deep and punchy, and very articulate. I had the treble boost button on the whole time, and switched the other two in and out, though I found them to be a bit too extreme, at least for what I was doing. I think the bass boost button could be useful, but the mid-scoop not as much. I futzed with it a little bit but ended up settling in on a slight bass boost on the EQ, a tiny dip in the high mids, and the treble boost button on. (I really like the treble boost. It doesn't sound zingy, clangy, hissy, or harsh. It just adds some really nice clarity. That, or I need new strings).
My Warwick sounded really nice. I wish I had brought the P-bass... maybe next time.
What DON'T I like? I'm not a huge fan of the "Signal" light. I guess it never bothered me on other amps because they're a little more discrete, usually as a green or red LED that was tiny and not that bright. But ALL of the LED's are SUPER bright and VERY blue, and it was a little distracting if I was facing my amp. That's really not a huge deal, but I have to find _something_ that I don't like.
Like it's been mentioned before, I may have to take a sharpie or something to the knobs - they're pretty hard to see if I don't have a ton of light available, and I haven't played on much stages where there would be enough to really be able to see these knobs. I don't tweak my settings during a show usually, but it would be nice if they were more visible. I played a large church this weekend, and was pretty bummed because they take everyone direct (even guitarsthrough PODs) and use in-ears for everything. It was actually a pretty slick setup, but I couldn't use my shiny new amp.
Overall, though, I'm very happy. Amid a raging guitar, keys, horns, vocals, and a drummer with only one setting (****ing loud), I had no problems with power or tone. Good stuff!
Cool Review! I used a Black Sharpie and colored in the groove slot on the knobs. It helps during the day, but at night on a dark stage, I find that the black colored sharpie slot is still so reflective it's hard to see. I might try some glow in the dark paint or something. Maybe just a "dot" on the end of the knb slot.
