Genz-Benz Shuttle Megathread: Part II

Here's my followup after playing to a room full of people today and with a piano and an organ in the mix:

The Genz-Benz Shuttle 3.0-10T was meaty and loud - a massive winner in a micro package! The girth was felt throughout the auditorium and I didn't even have the Master on half! Not only that, but I could hear the growl and snap of my Warwick Thumb NT bass like never before - even the song leader commented on how he could hear things in the bass that the other combo amp wasn't producing. He also noticed I didn't have to really hammer the strings to be heard, but that I was playing effortlessly and nothin' but good, deep tone was dripping from that 10" speaker. Just imagine if I had an extension cab and 300W! But that would be too much then...if there is such a thing.

I think it's awesome when a product continues to impress you even more as you begin to use it in the real world. Definitely no "buyer's remorse" here! It's more like, "Where have you been all my life?" :)

I hear ya man. Everyday the tone of my 6.0 + 210T grows on me more and more. It's such a great little combo. If this audition goes well this week, there will be tons of new videos and pics me playing it (and other cabs w/ the 6.0) coming up this summer. Wish me luck! :help::hyper:

I bought the 8" and returned it a few days later, and left with the 10" combo plus the extension. The main differences I see in the 10 versus the 8 are just a little more depth and roundness of tone, a bit more volume, better handling of the low b, and less dependence on floor coupling. The 8 really needs to be sitting on the floor, and in a corner seems even better. The 10 still benefits from the same treatment, but does better elevated off the floor than the 8 does.

In the end, I decided it was worth it, especially since I use the combo with and without the extension for several different gigging situations. However, I think the 8 is a very capable little combo. It really just comes down to your needs and expectations.

all settings at o'clock:

lows 2
mid 2
mid freq. 10
highs 1

This, of course, can change quite a bit depending on your bass, cabinets, strings etc.

I use this setting on a "jazz" bass. For slap, I use both pickups. For finger, I dial a bit towards the bridge.

That works... I just put my highs at 11

That's about the same for me, too. I'll turn the LF on depending on the bass or venue. Sometimes the HF Attack as well, but seldom the Scoop. Tweeters up pretty high, and it's about as modern as you can get.

thank you very much.I try. To me the slap tone is in the mids. The technique will boost bass and teble by nature of how you are hitting it. The mids keep the pitch and body to the tone

I agree completely. Thos mid scopped slap tones are not full sounding at all to me. You're going to have to come check me out in the new band (I got the gig :hyper: one down, 2 to go) to see how you dig the tone i'm getting. I could use a second set of ears to tell me if I sound like poo or not lol. :p
