Genz-Benz Shuttle Megathread

Thank you very much for your quick answer.
I was only a little confused, because you (with the GBE 1200) and other manufactors use normaly the term "maximum power consumption" and not "average maximum power consumption". And I'm not a technican, so please forgive my ignorance. :hiding:

+1.. this is quite a different way to communicate the power consumption versus other heads and also other Genz heads. Small issue, obviously:), but I was confused a bit also.

Here's a pic of the ministack and my fretless SR5 on a break at the rehearsal / audition last night. Camera phone pic, a little grainy. But the retina searing blue LEDs (RSBL's) are very evident! It was fairly dark, and they sort of overwhelm the camera.

Oh, any Nashville area cats who want to hear this stuff live, I'm playing at Past Perfect juts off Broadway at 10pm this Saturday, 2/09/2008. Artist is Brian James. He's a smoking guitarist, too, so it'll be fun to listen to even if I suck, lol ... ;)

Cheers

Hey Liam,
How ya been man? I may try to check you guys out on Saturday night. I am kinda in the market for a small amp and have been considering the W*X-2*0,,,,,,,but I keep hearing about this Gens Benz.

Look forward to seeing you,
Rick

Yeah, but yesterday when we spoke you said it was the same P-32 Space Modulator that the martian from the Warner Bros. cartoon was going to use to blow up the earth so he could see the moon better.

:D)

His name was Marvin for the record. ...Marvin the Martian.:bassist:

Now, back to our regular programming.

Average is implied in the ratings, I added the "average" comment because it's become confusing when some companies make this number very high for marketing purposes... say you really use the maximum current drawn with the amp driving a continuous sine wave, then drive it into clip (assuming no limiter), that number will get rather large and some companies (nobody particular in mind) will make that power number on the back prominant so that the kids looking at the back see a large number and make their own (incorrect) conclusion.

Also, the averaging is a little different and more forgiving with a SMPS, especially with power factor correction on the input, or syncronous rectification.

Called both of my local stores that carry the Genz-Benz and neither had a clue as to when the Shuttle 6.0 might be available to them. Not an encouraging word in either conversation that might shed some light on this. Oh well But one guy did quote me a price of $649.00 can this be right? Yikes.

I don't know if you can buy for less right now, but a 600 watt less weight than a bag of sugar, I don't think it's have bad

I've seen less for more

I think you could do better, but that's not a bad price for what you get IMO. By comparison, the LMII's are going for $599, and the 6.0 has more power, a tube pre, a much higher quality selectable DI, a semi-para EQ, and twice the customer service. Even at the price you gave, that's only $50 more. Those extra features might not mean much more to many players, but they certainly cost a bit more, especially the tube pre.

So when and who's A/B-ing the shuttle 6.0 to the F1? Somebody do it!
I have not, but I'm looking forward to the review. I'm expecting the difference to mostly boil down to the Tube pre vs. SS, and the tonal differences suiting the player. I think output will be very close, but I'll stretch my predictions and give a slight nod to the 6.0 just b/c of the stringent rating standards used by Genz. I don't think there will be enough volume differences either way for it to matter, although voicing my provide an edge for one over the other in given situations.
