Genz Benz Streamliner, Part 10

I'm a new streamliner owner and I'm gigging my 600 tomorrow morning at a corporate event. I found the "SVT Settings" post at the start of this thread and I'm planning on running with that. I'll have a dedicated FOH engineer and I plan to send him my stl600 DI feed post-EQ, but I wanted to see if you guys have any other suggestions.

I consistently get compliments from FOH when I send them the post EQ DI from my 900. I've also used it as a preamp in the studio, with great results. I think you and your FOH guy will be pleased.

Running my 900 with a svt classic 410hlf. Blew my second speaker in a month yesterday. I'm running the gain at about noon. Gain button in. Volume at 2 Master at about 8:30. Bass at 10 o clock, mid flat and treble at 1. I know the hlf is rated at only 500w rms at 4 ohms, and the 900 is 900 at 4 but I didn't think running it where I am would do that kind of damage. What the hell is going on?i feel like an idiot!

How often is the output peak led flashing?
If you have a high output bass, you could be driving the amp harder than you think.

That's frustrating but if you need to push that 410HLF hard, I'd sell it and pick up a used Genz benz Uber 410T or Bergantino AE410. Both those 410's sound great with the Streamliner and can take what it dishes out without folding.

It does seem unusual but in my experience, that's not a terribly aggressive setting for the SL with a passive bass (I run mine with a P Bass).

I do not have experience with that particular cab - when you run it at that level, is it clean? Do you see alot of speaker cone movement in the cab?

When I first got mine, I did blow a speaker in an Aguilar GL112 - similar to your situation, I was coupling the SL with a cab that had a significantly lower rating. That incident happened with an active bass with a much hotter signal than the Pbass, though.

Since then I have been using two Baer ML112's with no problem - but with 900 watts, you do need to be careful!

Agedhorse is the man to listen to on this forum - hell, he designed the amp - so you can get no better source of help with your problem than him....

Yeah, I've been thinking I need to just get a cab that can take more. Our church takes place in a old theater that seats a couple thousand, so I can probably stand to have a little more air moving. I keep hearing about these Berg cabs and they sound like a real treat. I guess I just want to make sure there isn't some issue with the SL that would cause this problem no matter what cab, as dumb as this may sound.

Everything went splendidly! FOH was pleased with my DI feed and the stage volume was perfect! So far I'm very happy with this head!

Is it possible the speaker was damaged before you got it and the new amp just finished it off?

@agedhorse the first (original) speaker was fine, until I plugged in my Christmas present (Aguilar Octamizer). Even set at low levels that pedal+ the SL gain button in wasted that speaker I think. The second speaker was one that had been "professionally reconed" so I'n hindsight perhaps it's easy to see what the issues were. While I have you, though, is there a cab you'd recommend matching with the SL if I'm looking for that vintage svt tone? The hlf I have is ported and is making things a little boomier than I think I like.

I bet its the Octamizer. Hope you get it sorted.

I'd try pick up a Genz Benz Uber 4x10 or similar in the Genz sales.

I'll chime in here since I have some experience to bring to this - I play mostly stuff that calls for vintage sound (R&B, Motown, etc) and the Streamliner pairs really well with Genz Benz cabs (I had a Uber 212) - I would think that either of the 2-12" cabs would serve you well. They may be hard to find with the GB changes going on, but if you can there should be some great deals out there. In my experience, 12's are better at a warm, vintage sound than 10's. I'm not a big fan of Ampeg cabs, they always sound muddy to me. Some like Aguilars - I had a pair of 1x12's and didn't like them.

The Ubers are pretty popular withthe Streamliner, but so are the Ampeg 810's. I think some of the players here might be able to give you better suggestions based on their experiences.
