Genz Benz Streamliner, Part 10

Thanks soxhats that is also a combination I've been looking at. How do these cabs sound as far as the mids are concerned? Are they mid forward or scooped or fairly even sounding? I read in another thread about how the Focus 112's were more scooped and that's something I definitely don't want with this amp.

I have found them to be fairly even, but I'd know more certainly if I did an A/B between the SL900 and my MB Fusion. The SL900 is so colored I'm not sure how much of the toneprint is the amp and how much the cabs. If I gig tonight with the Focus cabs, I'll listen more attentively with your question in mind. Not sure yet if I'm bringing the Focus cabs or my GB 410T-XB3. (Yes, I am overstocked with GB cabs, something I'll likely rectify in the new year.)

Yeah the Streamliner definitely has a voice of it's own and I really like the tones I can get from it. I rolled the tubes in mine and put a GE 5751 in V1 and two NOS 7025's in V2 and V3 that seems to have tightened the bass and gave the mids a bit more push. So if they are more even or mid forward they should work fine for me. Thanks for your help and I will be looking foward to more input from you on this.

Tube swapping is easy. The hardest part is removing all those tiny screws on the cover ;-)
The tubes are left to right: V1 V2 V3.
The tube in V1 creates gain response, V2 = bass and treble response, V3 = mids.
Make sure the amp has cooled down, powered OFF and is not plugged in before touching tubes.
Remove and replace one at a time so you can hear if each tube is working OK.
To remove pull up gently. To replace, make sure the legs are lined up with the holes, then press down gently. Make sure the tube is solidly seated.
Plug in, power up, play, listen... repeat.

Writing this during a set break at my classic/hard rock band's New Year's Eve show. I cannot believe it took me more than a year of SL900 ownership to understand just how much the bass level needs to be DOWN. Playing at 9 o clock tonite rather than the usual 11. Love the tone so much more. Still great lows but more defined. I'm cutting through better.

And don't be afraid to max the pre-volume around 4.or 5.....Not your normal animal

Hey man. Just got up. :-) Well, I'd say mids are no problem with these cabs. I wouldn't call them mid-forward, but not mid-shy either. Even. Last night's gig reminded me how much I like these cabs. For some reason, I'd been using the 410T-XB3 a lot lately, but I think I might sell that one. Despite two pieces, the 115 and 210 are so easy to shlep with my foldup cart and I like the extra height I get with the two cabs vs. the 410.

BTW, I don't think this is of much use sound wise, but you get a glimpse of what the rig looks like onstage in this video of one of my bands from last summer:

Happy to help!... I'm not sure on the volume question. I like having the flexibility of a 210/115 if I have a situation where I want to go just with the 210. I love having a 15 in the mix (versus, say, a pair of 210s) for that extra killer bottom. I find that the Focus 210 and 115 complement each other really well.

I have a problem with my Streamliner 9. Last night at a gig, I turned on the head and started setting up.Then I noticed all the lights shut down. I moved the cord where it plugs into the head and it came back on. I made sure it was in all the way and nothing pulling on it(like always). Then it happened two other times while playing .Has anyone else had this happen or know of a way to fix it?

All of our amps use a tight fitting IEC AC cable connector to prevent it from vibrating out while playing. It needs to be inserted firmly or you will experience intermittent operation. These are primarily touring oriented pro products, and connectors vibrating out on tour is sincerely frowned upon by most toiur managers and sound guys. ;)
