My bad - I was thinking you said that you guys were covering some Disturbed and the like. Too many head traumas![]()

It was cool to play the Streamliner side by side with the Shuttle 9.0 and the GBE 1200...all three amazing amps...
I had a white box sitting outside my door this afternoon.
The 600 kicks butt. Even through my 210 I was getting fat bottom and an insanely warm tone. This is exactly the tone I was looking for and will definitely play the bajeezus out of this little guy!![]()
If my math is correct, the difference in maximum SPL between a Streamliner 600 and a Streamliner 900 is about 2dB.
.........................Watts........ Watts
........................8 Ohms.......4 Ohms
Streamliner 600........375............500
Streamliner 900........500............900
SPL difference..........2dB............2dB
"Standardized" audio measurements are taken at 1kHz, not bass frequencies. Which leads to my question: How many additional decibels do we bassists perceive as a significant increase in headroom through a bass rig?

Just spent an hour or so with them, but here goes...(I'll alos let Kirk jump in)...
Basses used were a 73 Fender Jazz, and a new Fender Custom Shop Reggie Hamilton
The Streamliner is very tubey and warm, but with a nice clear clean when wanted...can get really growly when dialid in...and loud. I like the simplicity of the front. It really sounded great with the reggie and through the Genz Benz NEO212T...we also tested it with a couple of Aguilar S210 cabs, and it sounded fantastic...really tight and crisp.
The Shuttle 9.0 was definately more hi-fi sounding, with a really super clean and bright tone....nice slap tone...but has plenty of low end available...and is quite loud also. I think it sounded best through the two Aggie S210's
The GBE 1200 is a beast...still just my favorite lead sled head...Been using this for a few years now w/no issues at all...great power and headroom...love both the tube and FET channels, and which between them all the time...I use the Mid Cut option for some slap passages...and the low boost to "pillow up" the bottom end from time to time (depending on the room)...This head will be in the arsonal for many more years I believe...but note, I'm getting an SL900 also...
KIRK...feel free to comment...
yes the slap tone sounded nice...I don't use a lot of slap in my current gig...but do always seem to slap a bit when noodling around...
The SL900 seems like a really functional head for the type of band I'm in, and the tone I'm after...I'm going to have to start saving up some funds...lol

Thanks for this, Jazzdogg.
Isn't it true that to perceive a difference in volume, it takes a minimum of 3 db - which equates to about double the watts? I'm guessing... My recall isn't what it used to be...
I'm still not understanding the need for the power of 900 watts (500 at 8 ohms)... I toured with a V-9 + one "fridge" for years (220 watts @ 4 ohms), and seldom got the volume above 1/3, and even at that, it was freakin LOUD!!! Lately, I've been using the RH450 from just under to just over half of the master volume. So, certainly not all of the 280 watts on tap... So, I bought the SL600, because 600 watts is three times as "potent" as my vintage SVT... And by that token, I can't imagine needing more...
Thanks, Ken! Understood about the volume taper, and clean headroom. But how much headroom is enough? What I'm hearing you say is that over-kill should suffice for any setting. And it is the clean tube-i-ness I'm after as well... Not to mention I like the 900 cosmetics better! I feel a bit silly for having got the 600 now!
My settings on the RH450 are input about 10 o'clock (compressor set about the same too), drop 220-250 hz about 4-5 clicks, post EQ vol @ 100%, tube tone (when used) +3 clicks... Master usually runs from 10 o'clock to 1 o'clock through either 1x12 or 1x15 (both TL cabs, KappaLite loaded, port covers installed). Typically, this is keeping up with "drum volume." Any louder and the Direct Out feeds the PA, typically... But the aim is to keep the stage volume equal to the drums.
I may still pick up the 900 and compare - best I can anyway.
