I've been elevating my cabs for years, having grown weary of my knees getting all the best sound at the expense of my ears. I often stack two cabs, with the top cab aimed toward me, and the bottom cab aimed toward the drummer.
I recently set up all of my cabs, combos, and heads in the living room to do some comparative listening. When my brother (a brass player) came over to practice, he thought I was using all of the cabs because the sound was so huge and rich. I had to prove to him that a single VL208 was the only cab being used; it was sitting atop two other cabs - at ear level.
Imagine how much quieter gigs and rehearsals would be if guitarists placed their cabs at ear level! That's something I'd be in favor of, as long as the guitar cabs weren't aimed toward me!
