Genz Benz Streamliner Part 9

Haven't visited this thread in a long time, but I'm still damn happy with my STL-600. I'm curious, has anyone recorded anything "good" with one yet? I'm going into the studio next week and I'm going to use my amp instead of some program. Links or experience with it would be great. Thanks!

I was considering the pairing for a rock context (specifically 80's "hair" stuff), and for that it would have worked wonders. High gain, mid bump at 600hz, slight treble rolloff. Wonderful.

I also play in a pop/funk band where I would set it for low gain, slight bass cut, mid bump at 220hz (I think that's the lower center), and a slight treble bump. Also wonderful.

Great pairing to cover a lot of ground and a tremendous amount of volume.

I think it would get you closer to the typical rock vibe of an SVT and a sealed 810. I wouldn't use that setup for pop music, but rock tends to benefit from a rolloff of the deepest bass frequencies and a bit of grind in the upper mids. I really think the Streamliner would nail that with a sealed 410, 610, 810, etc.

I've been using a sealed 4x10 and i boost the low mids (@220hz) almost to the max, little bass boost (just shy of 1 o'clock) and slight treble cut (maybe 11 o'clock) with flatwounds on a Jazz bass and I get a classic R&B vibe. I do this with the gain and volume at about 12 o'clock. Gives it that classic tube warmth without breaking up.
I ordered the cab (a carvin actually) and the amp at the same time and had never heard them paired together previously. I like the sound but had heard that some people had difficulty getting a good match for their style. The carvin nails the R&B sound dead on, but would probably fall short in other aspects. I was just trying to get a feel for what others were finding worked for their vibe. I like that you've put this much though into it. I found a setup that worked and didn't give it a second thought.

I'm playing my Streamliner 600 through a Hartke Hydrive 410 sealed cabinet. I play Southern Gospel, Contemporary Praise and Worship music in church and hard rock in my band. This setup works great in all of those styles of music.

The Streamliner is not as simple as it looks. All the controls on this amp are very interactive and where you set the gain helps to determine how you set the eq. I have had this amp for almost a year and I am still learning this amp. I am not really good at describing the different tones I just fiddle with it until I get the sound I want out of it.

I was asking if that was a good description of the tone you were using for those styles of music. I'm not very current on Gospel or Worship music and wasn't clear on what the typical bass tone for those sorts of gigs would be.

But I totally agree with how dynamic this amp is. For having just a few controls every setting effects how the other controls respond.

I have used it as a DI direct into the board for recording. Sounds wonderful. There is a thread here at TB about the Streamliner's tone controls. You'll want to check it out. If I'm not mistaken, somewhere in the middle of the thread there is an explanation on how to set the gain and tone controls to get a flat sound. That would be an excellent starting point for tracking in the studio.
