Genz Benz Streamliner Part 9

I gotta take the Streamliner out for a stroll in my cover band sometime... the 9.2max is too damn awesome to unseat it though

That was a really tough call for me but in the end,the Streamliner did unseat my 9.2 in my case. I really liked the 9.2 and it was so versatile, but the Streaminer has a musical character and girth that I couldnt duplicate with the 9.2. Im experimenting with different stomp box eq's for added versatility, but my Streamliner love fest is still strong! Both awesome heads though.

I like both the Streamliner and the SM9.2 for different reasons and gigs... I used the Streamliner this week and whoa!!! I love the bottom cushion that it lays down... I am going to try it on a session tomorrow as a DI, simply because the preamp is just so buttery sounding...

Hey Kirk just FYI-I just completed CD for a guy and used the Streamliner as a preamp/DI. I think the tracks came out nice and the guy I did them for was totally happy.I tried it both was,but in the end I ran it post EQ with 600 boosted slightly and the lows at around 9 and maybe slightly lower.I used the input gain to taste. It tracked great and I did some final EQ after with a touch of compression-I think it did a great job as a pre/DI

Yeah. Im bringing my REDDI and using the Streamliner pre in Post EQ to get the tube break up when i drive it.. and see how it all comes out... The guy is kinda weird so im sure he wont mind my experiments.

Ha-I just caught my error-I ran POST EQ.Got to typing and wasnt paying attention. I really need to try the REDDI-But honestly I was very happy with the Streamliner.

I've also never played with the gain button engaged! ha! I got some experimenting to do. For church I'm not looking for tube breakup. Gotta get this thing to rock soon

Im having great luck getting a super clean tone dialing the Gain back and bumping the Pre Volume up.Still has big balls, but very clean. I love this head.I want to try some tube rolling soon.Just havent had the time.

I've been running with the Volume all the way up, and the gain around 10:00 or 11:00. I find this really accentuates the clean attack of the notes and gives me a lot of dynamic range. The low notes sound like being hit by a giant hammer wrapped in velvet. Love that sound and feel. I've also been going back and forth between boosting 600Hz to 2:00, or cutting 600Hz or 2.5k to 10:00 (bass at 9:30). Interesting how either boosting or cutting mids makes a cool and usable sound.

I have a Phillips 5751 in V1 (tightens up the bass), and a Tung Sol in V2 (makes the mids fatter and more aggressive).

As I understand it, the gain button is just like turning up the gain knob, it's not a magic tone thang.

Sounds great! None of the bottom heavyness that some have complained about with other cabs. Seems to be a great match for it. I haven't played with it enough yet, but so far I have had no issue pulling any sound out of the pairing that I have wanted. Played a gig with it last Friday night and basically had it set to the SVT settings I've seen floated around and it was really impressive. Last night I dialed in some funkier sounds too. Real pleased with it so far.

Thanks for your responses earlier and for asking now.

I continue to be impressed with the Streamliner, though lll admit it took me a while to get a handle on the EQ.I think some have given up on it too soon.Ive read some of the reasons people have sold it and I felt the same way when I first got it,but now Ive figured my way around it.It looks like a simple EQ section, and it is,but there is alot going on with it. Just an awesome head.

Yeah i've found by messing with the eq that I can actually get too much brightness. It might be due to the tubes I have in it. I can get a good high mid grindy tone out of it without boosting in the 2.5k. It seems to be pretty versatile paired with this cab.

Agreed. If you want the highs you can get them. Conversely, if you want the lows they are there too.
