Genz Benz Streamliner Part 9

If anyone is interested in hearing some recordings using the Streamliner 900, I have a few for ya.

The first two links are to songs that I recorded using my Dingwall ABII with mahogany body, FD1 pups and Circle K strings. We used a direct signal that was Post EQ and a second signal that was miked from my Uber 410.

Bob I owe you big thanks. I am a hobby bassist if you will and earn no income from my playing. As such, my wife is a very difficult sell. I have been using a little Fender Bronco 40 combo at home. At church the regular bassist lets me use his for the stage sound while the main sound is supported with a FOH system. The Fender can't even fill the stage. So I have been talking about the Streamlliner which results in the infamous eye roll and a verbal "really". I am sure no one else ever gets this response when they buy their 4th head or 5th cabinet. Anyway I talked my wife into listening to "Sweet". She was listening through my IPhone with my Sennheiser HD205 headphones. I was amazed that she listened to entire chart. When she was done she said "Wow that sounds good. Really different from you amp." I kind of grinned at the small victory. That's a step closer to a Streamliner.

What impressed me most was the lead guitar solo passage. The bass was right there cutting through it giving support. It was never lost in the mix.

You might like this one as well. This our, if you'll pardon the expression, "White-boy Rock" version of the classic rap song Bust A Move. There was so much going on in this one, yet the Streamliner delivered a super gritty tone that just eats through this dense mix. This one was recorded without a miked cab signal, just a post EQ signal with some extra tube drive. Oh, and this one is also my Dolphin.

I just love the way my Dingwall and Warwick work with the Streamliner and my Uber 410. They are a great tonal match.

Love the lines, your skills, and love the "bass heavy", tri-dimensional analog-like recording, very uncommon these days (almost every commercial production is a homologated "everything peak to 0 dB" digital limited mess with un intelligible instruments and no real fatness and poor low midrange).
IMO I prefer the growling Dolphin. I also own two Wicks and found that they complete the tonal profile of the STM wonderfully, especially the Thumb (Dolphin's brother)!

The Dolphin was pretty much flat, with perhaps a slight favor to the neck PUP. The Streamliner was set with tube drive at about 2 o'clock, the preamp volume at about noon. Bass and Treble noonish (except for Love's Like That, which a bit of Treble boost) and mids about 3 o'clock at 600hz. Master just high enough to get a good signal input volume.

The ABII was set with Pups in series, and a bit of bass boost.

Both basses were wearing Circle K nickel alloy strings.

Honestly, I think that the match is a very good one.
You may know that the Berg AE210 (first version) is quite tight in the lows and with an accented high-midrange. That backed in EQ compliments the STM tone in a good way.
I use 2 cabs stacked, so, in fact, I have 4 tens.
With that setup I prefer to EQ my STM 900: bass: noon ; mids at 220 at 10:30 o' clock; highs noon for a wonderful grindy, wide and but deep&clear studio tube tone. When I want more growl, beef and presence I use mids at 600 and 1 o' clock, everything else nooned or bass at 11 o'clock.
Considering this, you can understand how good is the match of my gear.

My Streamliner + uber115 + my thumb 6 fretless is an awesome match! Still surprises me that it sounds that good!

yes, it does, but I have to admit that the Thumb sounds simply fabulous trough every piece of gear...

I agree, I think Warwick and Dingwall, as well as any bass that provides what some consider a "modern" tone, will work well with a Streamer!!

My main axe is a Schecter Stiletto Studio 5. My other bass which I seldom use, is a Peavey Milennium 5 BXP. The Peavy's signal is way hotter than the Schecter however the Schecter is a pleasure to play and has a way better tone to my ear. I know neither of these are in the same class as the axes you guys are playing. Any chance anyone has played either one of these through the Streamliner?
