Genz Benz Streamliner Part 9

I can join in with the GB party now, after buying a STM600 and an Uber Bass 212 earlier this month.

It has all the warmth ( and growl ) of an all tube unit without the backache - totally blown away by it. Definately the best sounding rock/metal head I've played in ages and ages. Paired up with the Uber 212 the output is defined, yet crushing.

Good to see there are still people appreciating this amp. Sellers REFUSE to understand this is awesome tube tone... and if you want clear modern tone... just get a clear modern preamp or pedal through the preamp in section on the back of the amp & VIOLA you have it all !!

My personal fave is the EBS microbass, it actually works very well with the streamliner to inject burpy mids, really cool

Tunaman, you just gave me a crazy idea...how do you think the STL 900 would match up with the Verellen Meatsmoke Pre? I'm digging the grindy STL tone already, but this looks like a lightweight combination to turn a big cab into a Death Ray 2000!

PWV, never heard of your crazy ass pre... but if you like your pre through a poweramp, thats EXACTLY what its going to sound like using the preamp in function of the streamliner.

Basically you turn the Streamliner into a 900w clean poweramp & skip all the tube circuitry & just hear your pedal

I always want the tube warmth and I simply don't want to carry it. This one (streamliner 900) is still beatin the other micros for me. Big fat wide and greasy. Trying Orange TB now and will wait to see if it unseats the numero uno sl900.

OK, basically, I have the STM set up with a clean tone, bass at 10:00, mids (2.5K) at 2:00, treble at 11:00.

With the HD500, first I cut at 240Hz (3.5dB) and 800Hz (2dB) using the studio EQ.
THen using the tube drive pedal sim, drive at 60%, cutting the mids control on the pedal sim a bit.
Then post dirt I boost at 75Hz (2dB), again with the studio EQ.
THe HD500 is set on a global output mode of "combo power amp".
THat into my GK neo 212 makes most basses sound pretty gorgeously "Foxton-like", when played with a pick. Of course both right and left hand technique also play a significant part in this as well.

For my fingerstyle tone I use the much the same general effects routing but use only about 50-55% drive on the tube drive. I also add a boost of about 1.5dB at 5000Hz post drive pedal also.

My new Streamliner 900 is a very solid piece of gear. My band really likes the sound of it. The amp is very responsive to playing. I'm at the point where I couldn't be happier! Great purchase. When Im this satisfied with a piece of gear it goes in the "never to be sold" category.

I will be part of that group next week... I bought a Streamliner 900 here on TB.

To be honest, I am looking for a head that will give me the warmth of the tubes preamp and some grind. I had the Aguilar TH500 for a bit and to my own preference, did not perform at all to my tastes in that area. Anyone can compare ?

Let me know. I plan on using it with a Fender neo cab for now until I find a Genz Benz cab.

You'll have warmth out the wazoo, and if you want it, a bit of "hair" on the notes that a lot if people like.

Not so sure about the grind, though, if you mean the upper mid sort of thing. The Streamliner is more of an iron fist in a velvet glove- smooth as buttah.

A lot of people (me included), think it pairs best with cabs that have a bit of an upper mid snarl to them- Bergantino AE210's, G-K Neo's, etc.
