Genz Benz Streamliner-Pt 2

Yup. I commented on the thicker metal for the casing, and Jeff confirmed that they upped it to 2mm for the Streamliners. I like the heavier feel, but of course, it's still ridiculously light as far as what you'd expect from a gigging bass head.

Yeah Jeff said they weren't going for the lightest possible weight, they did want it light but with a little more heft too if for no other reason than so it would feel more solid. He even beefed up the size of the tone knobs a wee bit. And 6 lbs is still a feather compared to an SVT.

It also seems a bit longer/deeper than the Shuttles. Personally I think they nailed the size/ergos. Small/light enough to be easy to cary, big/heavy enough to stay put on top of a cabinet. Workmanship is top-notch. Looking forward to mine showing up. I could have shot some video at NAMM but it wouldn't have told you much - lousy mic on the camera and too much ambient noise. Suffice it to say that the amp goes from warm/clean to "cut your throat" grind and all points inbetween.

I like the slightly heavier weight personally. I know it's just a perception issue, but the LMII felt more solid and sturdy because of the 2 extra pounds over the Shuttle 6. The RH450 is still light really, but it felt "heavy" in a sense with those 5 pounds over the Shuttle 6. I think 6-7 lbs is perfect for these smaller heads.

The taller size i believe is because of the 3 12ax7's in the preamp... from the photos they appear to be upright behind the GB logo...
So that 12ax7 height plus the board to mount them on would cause the increase in size.

Correct.

... and the heavier aluminum materials are in part to make the amp even more rugged and solid given the modestly larger size. The entire aluminum face and sides are not only cosmetic but seriously structural.

Wait, you mean you not only properly mount your knobs to a solid faceplate (instead of letting the circuit board support them), but you worry about overall structural integrity? What, you're trying to make a product that actually is roadworthy?!? Crazy talk!!!

Hey Ken, depending on how you feel about the streamliner when it arrives, would you consider adding a Pbass to your lineup?

:D That was almost like a paid set-up. This beauty arrives Friday. It is a Nordstrand VP5 that I ordered about 5 months ago. It was finished just in time for NAMM, hence the booth picture! It should get here Friday if all goes well. It is 8.1 pounds, ash body with a beautiful, old school one piece maple neck with skunk stripe. Most of Carey's VP5's have been nitro finished, but I went with poly on the body and gloss poly on the neck.

I actually ordered the Streamliner with this bass in mind!

 sweet

I saw that at the booth and wondered if it was yours.

I'm pretty pumped about it.... as I posted on another thread, this will nicely finish out my 'vintage' 5 string collection of a nice 60's style J, a nice late 70's style J, and now a P Bass (I assume kind of a 70's spec).

Always wanted a P in the stable, but wanted a 5 string and didn't want to pay a zillion dollars. The Nordy isn't cheap, but is reasonable given the amazing build quality.

Very nice, Ken! I'm quite surprised and impressed! I bet that guy will sound great! I have the one just like the pic below on the way any day now. It's a limited run Lakland Owners Group bass. Only 30 made, with the promise that they'll never make any more of them. Even has LOG in the serial number. I ordered this one with a Nordy pickup. I also have the Streamliner in mind to use with this bass.

Nice Ken! You're on point with the vintage/old school direction you are taking. :-)

Those are both beauties! Nice to see the 'high end guys' are making some nice passive P's. The Alleva-Coppolo's are killin' also, but Carey's spec just spoke to me a bit more.
I got inspired to order this one at a Bon Jovi concert I wound up at unintentionally here on the coast several months back. The bass player was playing an Alleva-Coppolo P bass. I felt like I was half mile from the stage, but that paddle-shaped headstock gave it away still. I must have stared at the jumbotron for 10 minutes waiting on a closeup for confirmation. It sounded fantastic the whole night long.

Sorry to derail the thread from bitchin' P's (I don't have pics of my US Glaub P/J here at work, otherwise I would contribute).

Ken, I am looking forward to hearing what you have to say about the Streamliner in regards to the RH450. I have an RH450 now but am gassing for the Streamliner. I think it would be an interesting comparison.

+1 Hugh McDonald got an A-C P Bass last year at Namm. He also plays Sadowsky basses (or did), and I believe also has recently gotten one of the new Carvin J basses. Great player.
