Genz Benz Streamliner-Pt 2

2nd bass from left!

[...and you should loan me the bass on the far left to try out through a ShuttleMax 9.2... :bassist: ]

I agree. The Fire Engine Red P Bass may just be too racey for the Streamliner. :D

The Tobias I just purchased off of TB. I lucked out on this one. It's an Arkansas Made Gibson and it is awsome. When I get tired of it I'll loan it to you. :D

I hope to do a side by side with my friends uber410 this week.. The pair really is deadly... One 1288 can do a reasonable volume gig while delivering a punchy wide spectrum tone with growl.
At least with a J bass...

I used the 1288s with a loud guitar band this week.. and it was great! WAAAAAAAY clearer than the 810 that i was using on that gig...
the 1288 still growls.. the 8 inch speakers handle the mid very well. stay clear and focused... and project well without honking.. this cab does Not honk... it is sweet .
Im really looking forward to trying the Streamliner with these on a rock gig...

While this is a three way design, it differs from the Fearful and similar because of the 8" mids, and where they're crossed...150hz is significantly lower than the 800 or so used in those designs.
While I haven't heard this cab, I'd suspect it might sound more like a 410 in terms of "paper cone breakup at high volumes," which is something I actually prefer over the Fearful design, at times.
However, it should also significantly benefit from having dedicated drivers per sound portion...perhpas a nice "best of both worlds" kinda thing.

Having the 2x8's delivering content down to 150hz should also make it "more than just a good 112" in terms of it's ability to fill a room, I'd suspect.

I wouldn't know how to theoretically compare 1288 to a 410 in overall spl, but I'd sure like to do an a/b at some point;)

A confession... the pictures provided at the start of the original thread left me unimpressed with the aesthetics of the Streamliner and I said so. After seeing the pics from NAMM, I wish to retract my statements and say that it is one cool-looking piece of gear. A definite iteration of Genz design and it looks great. Well done :)

I thought the Streamliner box looked and felt more substantial than the Shuttle and the brushed metal with beveled corners was cool.

Looking forward to this comparison, given that I have an Uber410 but yet, as much as I love it, am GASSing over a pair of 1288's.

I am also still trying to figure out whether to go with a Streamliner 900 or a ShuttleMax 9.2. I am really not a tweaker, so that, the fact that I play mainly rock, and tubey goodness makes me think the Strealiner is the way to go. On the other hand, I love my GBE 1200, and would think the Max 9.2 would be a perfect lightweight substitute for that.

My thought is just throw a Tech 21 VT pedal in front of the SM9.2 and get most of the best of both worlds -- though, I'm sure there is a real sonic difference between the two set-ups.
If I could afford both amps, I'd do that, but since I can't...
For the sound I prefer, the SM9.2 looks like a killer amp -- most of the time running 90% FET preamp with a little tube pre blended-in.

I'm the exact opposite, 90% or more running the tube preamp, with a touch of tube grit and slight bass and lower mids boost with slight cut on the upper mids and treble flat.

Not to needless pile on with the love for the Streamliner 900, but I was able to play this through the Uber Quad and Uber 115, and I was suitably impressed! It is definitely warmer, more round, and more vintage sounding than the other G-B heads. I could probably dial in the Shuttle 9.0 (or one of the ShuttleMAX) heads to get relatively close, but the Streamliner has that old school tone right out of the box. I did like the overdrive, as well.

This is a fairly different "interface" and voice for Genz-Benz, and a great addition to the family, IME/IMHO.

I think Im with ya on this John, though I cant wait to try both and I cant wait to read some gig reviews on these.Bout the only thing Im not crazy about is the fact the Streamliner does not have a sweepable mid like the Shuttles have.I like the ability to set it where I want it.Other than that I love everything about it so far.
