Yeah, I know what u mean. Maybe a 'gramma' type pad would help?
Am gonna try the STL-600 with the AE410 tonite-see how this goes.
Wasn't meaning to be rude, but some were just discounting my views. I'm only stating my experiences, & my love for the amp.
Maybe, just maybe, this amp ISN'T for me. But I wanna be totally sure before I make that decision.
As I said, am very impressed with GB's amps & would very much like this baby to work for me.
Thanx to ALL that 'persevere' with me. I really hope to get it working for me.
& sorry if I came across somewhat 'riled'. :-)

Im still on the fence about my STL600. Some gigs it works really well, others i struggle to get a tone i like, although i never get complaints from anyone else about it.
I do hear the "mud" thing, and i use a Gramma pad at all my gigs. I feel its just a different tone to what im used to so im sticking with it for now.
We dont have much of a mix (just a 4 piece) so i have no issue cutting through, although i try and sit in it rather than cut through it.
I look on my 2 heads like i look on the P and Jazz bass, with the STL600 as the P bass. Im not 100% with it but it works well for everything, even though i dont think its outstanding for many of them.

Maybe that just me.

I play my Alleva Coppolo KBP4 with Chromes and it is not boomy.... I get great mid articulation..... and not boomy at all.... mmmm

This is interesting, as I know my AC EUT5 isn't the same as your KBP, but they should be in the same tonal universe eh?
My Lakland P5 gives me the same results.
Aaah well, will see how she goes tonite with the AE410.
THANX again guys.
Will report back tomorrow on the gig tonite.

Rodl - this is why I didn't buy an AE212. I love the SL900 with my TC cabs and Aggie DB212. Not tried it with my Orange cabs but I bet it's great with the OBC115! Classic warm thumpy bass.

I've heard from many AE212 owners that it's a fussy cabinet.

Try the AE410...I hope it works out :)

I hope the AE410 setup works out for you, but I also wonder if maybe you’re just trying too hard to like something that isn’t your cup of tea. If bands are giving you the thumbs up on your Shuttle/AE212 rig, why try to fix what ain’t broke?

Amps like the Shuttle or the Markbass LMIII are a perfect choice for many people. If you’re using conventional cabs with a midbass hump and a scooped midrange, you need lots of midrange articulation to fight the mud.

Sure, here’s a mega-thread about the Streamliner, filled with drooling, fanboy reviews. But that’s not because the Streamliner is a replacement for the Shuttle series. If anything, it’s the anti-Shuttle! I think the reason that some of us are so high on the SL900 and SL600, is that up until recently, we had little choice in a rounder-sounding micro. If you scratch the average SL owner, I bet you’ll either find a big-bottom fanatic, or someone who already had unusual amounts of articulation in the rest of their setup, and needed an amp that could smooth things out.

I’m a good example. Years ago, back trouble forced me into lightweight, compact cabs that attenuate the huge low end of the Streamliner. On top of that, I like active, hi-fi sounding basses, and cabs that feature forward mids and extended treble response. As a result, any amp that sounded great in your rig, would probably be an overbright, clanky mess in mine. Different strokes for different folks…

You never know.. You can only try and see what happens.. You may have a defective tube.. I say May have.. I really do not know. But sure . give it shot... That is a great idea.

Also What Big cabs are you using? I dont think you posted that .. only the AE112 one cab..
I too play an Alleva Coppolo LG5 in Passive mode most of the time into the STM900 and an any array of 810s when im traveling... Some 810s are darker than others... and when i say darker i hear less top end .. but i have not gottehn that boomy 160hz -ish ringing honk.. But i do roll the bass control to about 10 oclock with some 810 cabs...

I'm wondering (clutching @ straws here I know) if a different pre amp tube might be a slight fix. I know of none, but are there any 12--- types of tubes that might tighten things up? Doubt it I know, but........

Have to tried lowering the bass knob and setting the Mid to 600hz and boosting that for more burp articulation ? Or the 2.5k setting if you need more upper definition.

+1. I'm trying to 'sit' in the mix too, I play in a 10 piece funk/soul band , a 4 piece rock band & a.4 piece jazz/blues band. By 'cut-thru' I simply mean ' be there' & not be mud.
As I've said-love the STL-600 - I'd just like a bit more clarity in the band mix. Here's hoping.
& thanx for your patience....

+1 on the 2.5k setting, it makes a world of a difference especially when you bump the mids.

My rig setup right now is the STL-900 and AE410 with my classic VJ5 and I LOVE IT! The AE410 is definitely a perfect compliment to the Streamliner because it's punchy and very articulate. I'm sure you'll love the amp even more with the AE410.

The problem is the head is TOO streamlined to do that if you don't have another active EQ source. Having two bands of mids would be ideal to me, even if they weren't semi parametric. Something like this.

Low-mid, with a selector for 220 or 600hz.
Upper-mid, with a selector for 1.2 and 2.5khz

That would solve so many of the issue folks seem to have with getting their mids where they want them, and the head would still be streamlined.

The Streamliner was designed to be like an old school tube amp. If you want more than that you have the wrong amp. IMO

If you want a spank monster get a 9.0. If you need more mid control get a 9.2.

I think folks just pickup whatever the crowd is gushing about regardless of whether it will meet their needs and then complain because X will not do Y.

Do not try to drive a nail with a sledge hammer. You will fail every time.

I agree with this mostly, but it's still frustrating when an amp has the feel and power you want but you just can't get the mids where you need them. Having some EQ control to me isn't really asking all that much.
