then everything else.

LOL, you are going to have every guitar player shaking their fist at you. Many think they are the most important. What kills me is they can't stand a bass sticking out in the mix.

-this thread is crazy! just received my STM 900 sat- took it and my recently (last year) completed 12/6 cube and 15/6/1 fEARfuls to my sextet gig sat...WOW!!

the interesting thing is that my rig for nearly 10 years has been a Kern IP777 and qsc 1202. also a gooey thick, smooth, bottom heavy 3 tube preamp. I`ve been searching for a small head to mimic it a little- but this is ridiculous! the streamliner is very similar.

I also own both the Kern and Streamliner 900 and find them similar also. I ran them both through my Crest CA9 and Bag end S15-ds and could eq the Genz to sound just like my Kern.

My Streamliner 600 has been very quiet until after practice last Saturday. It now has a noticable (not extreme but noticeable) hiss and light crackling even with tweeters turned off. I have only had this amp for 2 months and do no abuse it. Has all original stock tubes in it. Any ideas?

My guess- one of the preamp tubes is going.

Thanks Saluki, my guess also.Since the amp is about 2 months old I was hoping agedhorse would chime in and say whether tube was covered under warranty. I will find which one it is this afternoon after work. I have some tubes but they are not the brand that came with the amp.

GB customer service is really good, my first amp didn't sound right and although it was probably a tube the sent me a new unit really quick.

Don't sweat it if the jubes are not the ruby or JJ, just as long as the can confirm it is the source of the problem.

Saluki, I seemed to narrow it down to my Jack on my Fender American Special Jazz bass that is a year old. Doesn't matter if I use a Livewire, Planet waves, or Mogami I get the popping when I move the cable plug so I will look into that. Glad it doesn't appear to be my new Genz Benz amp. Love this thing!

Fast Forward.
I removed the control plate from my bass and couldn't believe it what I saw (for a USA Fender American made Jazz bass). While it wasn't the really cheap, crappy asian jack you see on many Asian made guitars and basses it wasn't as thick of metal as the USA made Switchcraft jack. I bent more tension on the signal arm that touches the tip of the plug and it is dead quiet and can't get it to mess up. I will be replacing it tomorrow with a switchcraft jack.

As long as the type matches and the tube is functional, it should work basically the same (possible slight tone difference) -- i.e. if the spare tubes you have are 12AX7, make sure the unit is disconnected from electrical source, then you can carefully swap them out.
Make sure the pins are straight and gently ease them into the socket.

Yes, thanks. I do that. I have worked on amps. I have 2 12AX7's and two NOS 5751's. I know a lot of folks like 5751's in the V1 stage but I prefer the volume and tone with the stock tubes and was mainly wanting to know if the tubes were under warranty and would be replaced but that is a moot point as the problem boiled down to the jack in the bass. It is just that this amp reacts differently to bad AC power grounds and connection problems than my previous GK amp. I had never heard constant hiss and intermittent crackle with the bass sitting on the guitar stand and the cable not moving that didn't change by moving the cable or changing cables. It was only when I grabbed the end of the guitar cable plug where it plugged into the jack and rocked it back and forth that it went from steady to intermittent. It is totally quiet now that I have corrected the Jack problem on the bass.

I found a good controlled and balanced tone with the following settings:
gain: 2
bass: 9
mids: 8-8,5
mid freq: 220
highs: 4-5 (depending on bass)
gain button off

It may take a little bit to get the eq adjusted on these amps but the end result is way worth it,

the setting that I liked "in the studio" with my jazzman, see two posts above, showed to be too shy on stage with two Bergs AE210 stacked...
I found many suggested settings to be very usable, but at the end I played all night with the following:
gain: 1
Pre vol: 10
bass: 10
mids: 3
mid freq: 2,5
treble: 12
master: 9:30

Plenty of volume, unbealievable dynamics, punch and clarity to spare but with the constant warmth, fullness and juicy trademark of the Streamliner...
I must admit, never sounded better on this gig. In the past I played this same gig with a Thunderfunk, Markbass rig...this time I heard myself so powerful, creamy but detalied, intelligible...just shocked.
Every musician on stage AND in the audience (it was a jam session outdoor with no PA) commented on a wonderful intelligible tone.
I'm done.

I must admit that in the past I had only a few occasions to put the STM into test in real gigging situations and my opinions were wrong in certain aspects due to insufficient experience..I want to thank all the great people here at TB (John K, Jimmi M, Steve Rolfeca, Kjung, and many many others that are not specified here) for the great apport and effort. The info provided helped me way beyond my beliefs...

I have found as you increase volume you may have to make some tweeks that are different when played at lower volume. What is cool though because everything interacts with everything else You want have much trouble finding a tone you like for a particular setup (cab, bass, room etc.).

I mainly play with the gain button in now, that little yellow light means tone heaven to me, the gain feature adds so much to the sound of these amps
