Daryl I'm just up the street and just happen to play in church as well. I'm in Jasper. Cool rig, how do you like the cab?

Thanks, RP! Small world, eh? I love the cab (I have the 115 version at home) and amp. As you can see I don't have room for the 115 in my tiny "office" but the 210 does excellent and it's all for me - everyone else gets PA system (from DI).... hee hee...:D

I've done a couple of gigs up in Blue Ridge as well and one off Sixes Road, so I do get out of the "office" a few times a year. Feel free to PM me if you do a gig outside of church hours (since that's when I'm usually playing, too). Jasper's not too far at all.

Well, I do get the feeling that I'm prolly the only one around TB playing a Ric through tubes on Sunday mornings... But the master plan is to add a Max 9.2 and a quality P/J (and a couple more FCS cabs). Love the tone of the Ric, though. WL wants me to get/learn a 5-stringer at some point...

The quality of my gear far exceeds my abilities at this time. :o It makes me want to be a better bassist.

Nope - I play my v63 through my SL900 and RS212 at 9:30 mass quite often.

I find I have to roll the bass all the way off and boost the (low) mids at 220 to get a tight low end. This leaves me with no way to control the mid mids.

It does a good "Stone Temple Pilots" kind of sound but I wish I could get some different sounds out of it.

I see johnk_10 has the gain button in and the gain knob at (hard to tell) a very low setting. I will try that to see if it cuts some of the excessive bass.

I understand that a lot of the bass response I'm hearing comes from my cabs so I'm not knocking the amp, just trying to find better ways to use it.

This thread has been very helpfull indeed...I have found that if i have my mids around 1.30-2 @600hz,that always starts me in a pretty safe area.I cut and boost around that...(pretty close to Tunamans settings).
One thing that I really love about this amp is the headroom.I have the 900 and it never feels like it's breaking a sweat.even at some considerable volume.

I have the 600 going through 4x10s and have never come close to cranking it.
It is a very strong amp.
It is a reliable backup amp that I can pull out of my backpack when my spoiled rotten boutique amp has a tantrum.

Recently swapped the stock tubes in my 900 as one was failing and causing horrendous noise issues on power up. I needed tubes fast and just went with the lowest price option a local shop had, which were the standard Mesa 12AX7's. this resolved the noise problem, and really tightened up the low end. I find myself running the 900 with a far more typical EQ than I was with the stock tubes. Basically bass at 11 o'clock, mids at 600 and 1 o'clock , and treble at noon. High gain varies depending on the context of the gig. From there it's just tweaks to the volume/gain relationship. Less attack, more clean, more low? Turn down the gain, turn up the volume. More attack, more grit, less low? Do the opposite.

Apologies for a slight digression but still related to the discussion.

Is it true that when installing new tubes you have to make sure to get zero fingerprints on them? Somebody told me the oil from your fingers would collect heat and cause the glass to crack or shorten the tube life or awaken Godzilla or something.

Pretty sure that's been debunked before and is considered bs. I touch em, albeit with clean hands, and have never had an issue.
