Thanks for posting the clips and your impressions, Ken. I liked the sound of the Streamliner with the treble opened up a bit. The Genz also seemed to have more authority on the low end. Not sure if the RH450 is capable of sounding like that or if you had the treble rolled down on it.

Hi Ken- I'm very sorry for your challenge with the tube/amp. I was skiing today and out of cell range. When I came off the mountain, on my drive home, I called Jeff to check in.

I tried Vic's RH450 for about 2 seconds and to be honest couldn't stand it. I tried several different settings, but it just did not do it for me (kinda like the classic roscoe sound is too wooly for me). I have had both the shuttle 6.0 and 9.0 and dug the 9.0 except to my ears sounded more digital or processed compared to some other micros and my reference the M6. Not sure I am making sense, but by more processed and less organic if you will. This is kinda how I describe the audere preamp to some other preamps. I actually dug the tone and features of the 9.0 but let it go for some reason. Now this streamliner has got me all gassy. It looks good and from the clips it sounds really good. More organic sounding sweet present highs and hopefully a lot more "open" sounding then the RH450 for my tone goals. Even though it seems a pretty big departure from my beloved M6, I bet it would just kill in the mix.
Let me know how it sounds with the AE212 and a J woulda?

I had a very similar experience to yours. I use an M6 and went to check out the TC stuff for a smaller rig I want to put together. I tried it two times and spent about an hour with it, an RS210, and RS212. The second time I brought my own bass and could not get anything close to a usable gig tone out of it. Given the general voicing of the RH450, my preference for RW boards and flats probably didn't help the situation. After checking out KJUNG's clips, my interest has been piqued for the Streamliner. Based on my absolute love for the M6, I just may not be a 'tube' kinda guy. Now all I need to do is find one to try.

Funny. I did give it more time then that, but the whole time I was just frustrated I couldn't find a great tone for me.
I just borrowed a RH450 and the matching 212 cab and it sounded very good to me without a whole lot of tweaking (P-Bass with flats). I then plugged the head into a Genz Neox 212T and wow! The head has a modern look (and features), but once you get by that, it's definitely vintage-voiced IMO.
I play plenty of rock and my F1 sounds great doing so. The SL900 is in my list of things to buy (after I get my, currently being made, Martin Keith Elfin 5) just because it sounds like it is a great amp, too, not that i plan on ditching the F1 anytime soon.
If someone doesn't like the RH, I can't see them loving the SL. From what I've seen so far, they are more alike then different. Take this with a grain of salt because I haven't heard it in person yet. Me like wooly.

I played my streamliner though my Uber1288T cabs tonight at a soundcheck.
Very clean and full with punch and depth... I have a new girlfriend..
The amp when in clean, of which it does real well played into the Uber1288 Quad cabs sound somewhat like a full toned tube preamp into a power amp into a studio type monitor. clear and punchy with some girth... Doing a gig at the super bowl tomorrow with a pair of these 1288s and the streamliner head...

Yes -- I very much like what I'm hearing about and from both of them. My decision to go with the RH450 (and the new Aggie TH500 was also a contender) was really about the bells and whistles stuff, which the Genz guys have made a no doubt conscious and completely reasonable decision to steer clear of. If any of the three were to fall into my lap, I'd be thrilled, but given that I have to choose one (for now, at least), that's my rationale. Love the idea of the Streamliner, but Ken has helped immeasurably by showing that I'm not going to miss out on too much.

The 1288s sound great for clean and slight tube warmth . .. they sound ok with real dirty in my opinion, its very balanced but a not grungy cab..
But turn off the tweeter in cabs if anyone really wants to fuzz it out... otherwise it is buzzy..The upper harmonics of the fuzz are more noticeable coming through the 8s which are on the left side of the cab. I dont think a 3 way cab is the best choice for an over-driven tone though.. just my opinion..I think a 410 -212 or 115 would work better for that.. IMO of course.
I do play mostly clean and at times with slight tube ummphhh.
. But the head is what others have said..
I really think this is an amp that i can dig my teeth into .. And it has its own unique sound.. I do hear the SA200 sort of clean tube amp sound in this thing... Looks pretty too...
The streamliner also departs from the normal GB style of detented controls.
They have a heavier feel and reminds me of the chrome covered 50s chevys... hahah there is a meaty feel to this thing for a 6 pounder..
