GenzBenz Streamliner Pt 8...

I love my Quads for when i need great articulation... more jazz type stuff and pop.. At least for me..
But a pair of Uber 115s would still be articulate. and do that arena rock tone yet pack a punch for any 70s 80s rock thing in my opinion...
Greg from Rocket music did some naked Sound clips of each..
Here are the posts

Okay, I know that this is gonna get some replys that "It all depends on the tone that you are looking for", but what's the best combination - 2 Uber Quads or 1 Uber Quad and 1- Uber 115 ? I want something that has punch and drive, plus primary gig is 70's and 80's arena rock.
Thoughts ?

i tried to hit you on banzai about this, but you're ignoring me :(

one guitard is using a 5150 2x12 combo. the other's running a blue voodoo into a 2x12 cab. we're fairly loud as a rule, and i sometimes find myself playing without PA support.

really pondering a neo 4x12 or maybe a "big" schroeder for this head... really want to get back to a single-cab rig. without carting a fridge around. :D

Hmm... haven't seen any PMs or anything. Weird.

Anyway, this cab is probably my favorite ever. I've used mine up against a Blue Voodoo 412 and Peavey Mark 4 412 with no issues. Mid presence and pop won't be a problem, esp. if your punk tone is more traditional. While you'd definitely be in the clear going with one of your other options, I'd rather get one NEOX and snag another if needed. Perhaps a bit pricier, but modular, flexible, and double the tone.

The Golight 2x10 is a good cab. It is light in the low end but the Streamliner is able to bring it forward in the cab without the cab farting. It has to do with clean headroom.

The two Genz Benz Amps (900 & 9.0) have changed the rules of the game in the whole size, light, loud reissue.

The barrier has been broken. Just using one Golight 2x10 by itself I can achieve (with my 9.0) what I achieved with one 4x10 cab and a MarkBass LMIII. Plus the tone is way better.

The low end is there, the loudness is there, the small size is there, and the light weight is there.

GGGGGGGGRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.....
Went to try my GK NEO 115 115 stack vs my 412 Neo GK vs my Epifani NYC 610 stack
Had a GK speakon cable not work... I had 1 cab going fine & was light on the low end before I noticed & isolated the cable...
So I was trying to get some low end & it was pushing the streamliner into the Peak light. Thought it was the streamliner at 1st but used the cables into my Eden & same result so it was the cable.

Found it funny the Peak light came up, volume knobs weren't high, can the Streamliner detect a bad cable? Some sort of weird load?

I've been using a Streamliner 600 with a custom Schroeder 2x15. (No tweeder)
I can tell you have many times people have commented on my tone.
With a P-bass and flats, it's a thing of beauty.
This amp loves 15" speakers.

Chances are you were driving the amp harder than you thought, especially if you had the LF eq turned up looking for the elusive low end.

Yeah, we probably could do a wierd cable detector but that would take the fun out of troubleshooting now, wouldn't it? ;)

First post here, and I hope I'm not starting out on a bad note.. this Streamliner 900 saga is a little overwhelming to navigate, so I apologize if this has already been covered..

From everything I've read (I think I'm about 1/2 way through pt 5) this is the amp I'm really thinking about buying. My concern is my cabs.. Bag End S15-D and an S15x-D. I was told by a local store that this head would blow them up, but I swear I read where someone was running this setup and was happy. I love the BE 15's, and feel like this would be a great setup for me.. thick, warm and meaty with a good balance of flab and punch (makes sense in my head, but doesn't sound that good after writing it).. anyway, if thing is too much amp for my cabs, maybe I should just consider the 600? I play in a band that's best described as Heavy Mellow, and the drummer is extra loud. I can keep up with my current head (1st-gen Traveler, upgraded to a Plus), but just barely. Any thoughts or opinions on the 900 with BE 15's would be very much appreciated.

BTW, I've been lurking here, off and on, for more than a decade. Thanks for all the great info.. and entertainment!

The BEs immediately came to mind as a great match for the STL when I demoed one. They should help tighten the lows and bring up the mids which would be a good thing IMO. I've pumped a GK2001 RB bridged, as well as all of my other big ass amps through a pair with no problem. Just use your ears and you will be fine.

Having not played the Streamliner 600 or 900, I'm curious if the amps "feel" true to their wattage ratings ? I just blindly ordered a 900 except for what I've read here and heard on YouTube, etc. So, the question is whether the amp "feels" true to it's wattage rating ? I previously owned an M6 and as most people have commented, that particular amp felt true to it's power rating. Thanks!

I don't know that I have a particularly well-calibrated ear for power ratings, and I'm not in a position to run my SL900 flat out on any of my gigs.

Still, I've done the rack thing with a Carver PM1.5 before, and the Streamliner definitely has that effortless "big block" feel. When I push my cabs hard, it controls the low end better than anything else I've played through.

That's exactly what I was hoping for; some "heft"/headroom with this head. I was very torn between the 900, ShuttleMax 9.2, and Orange Tiny Terror 1000. I play mostly rock, but do have an occasional country gig I fill in on. I'm hoping the Streamliner will fit the bill. I love the overdriven clips I've heard of the Tiny Terror, but it just seems a bit of a one trick pony. It seems like I'll have a few more tonal options with the Streamliner.

STL 900 sounds great with the bags. You will be able to hear when they are pushed too hard. Should be fine for any small - mid sized venue without PA support.

Yup, The GK NEO 115 115 stack is just so bad that in trying it out I pumped up some serious lows to get em. Switch to another cab with the same settings & its all mud. Also plugged into the Eden Nav & I was DEEP in the red LEDs.
(EDIT: IT WAS A PHASING ISSUE!)

Streamliner sounds fantastic with the rest.
Full review to come on the huge cab shootout with the Streamliner

Hi all!

Here's a few clips from a gig I did last night.

It's slightly muddy as it recorded from the back of the hall under a low ceiling.

P with flats > STL900 > 2 x Berg HS210s with a little post-EQ DI to the FOH.

I've pushed 220Hz and rolled the bass back a bit. It shows everything I love about this head - authoritative, no mud, and it punches like no other Class-D I've heard.

I'm hoping by running 2 of them in a stacked 2x10 config I'll have enough low end. I rarely play without PA support, so I really don't need to have sub-like bass response out of my stage rig.
