Linky no worky.

Hi all!

Here's a few clips from a gig I did last night.

It's slightly muddy as it recorded from the back of the hall under a low ceiling.

P with flats > STL900 > 2 x Berg HS210s with a little post-EQ DI to the FOH.

I've pushed 220Hz and rolled the bass back a bit. It shows everything I love about this head - authoritative, no mud, and it punches like no other Class-D I've heard.
Great clips! My praise also to the songwriter(s) re the hillside homeless song. Top notch lyrics and very emotive.

Man... I know this is an old hat for much of the crowd here, so please forgive me!

I really love the sound of my all tube SVT IIpro, but in its super heavy duty roadcase I would say it is approaching 200lbs:O

I've had my eye on the STL900 ever since I've gotten word of how "tubey" it can sound. I'm just so in love with that touch-sensitive power tube break up, especially with my Lakland P5!

In order for me to get the Genz, I'd have to flip my Ampeg, and I'm as yet unwilling to commit to such a move. Decisions, decisions!

Everything I've seen/read on the STL's seems awesome...don't mind me, just musing, carry on:)

As most things go after the initial enthusiasm wears off, and many people buy them, they will sell quite cheaply. I sold my Markbass LMII for 450.00 or so. At the time it was a very good sorta SVT sounding micro head. The streamliner 900 is great but some folks are already selling them at very attractive prices. Wait and see.:smug:

Mate, I had an SVT II (non-pro) & to me at least, keep ur Svt!!!

These STL's do have a nice OD, but it's nothing like the SVT, NOR, IMO, is it even like a tube amp. YMMV!

Bullocks I say! You are the exception, not the rule.

I didn't say I WAS the rule. I said all imo....... Many ppl pm'd me saying the same thing & that when they posted their negative views on here, they got replies like this.
I've said MANY times, I liked the STL, just that it didn't work for me! got that? Gee I hope so.
I think ppl should hear all views about an amp. I wish I did &I wouldn't've bought a STL.
BUT PPL like you are preventing them from posting their valid views

Again you don't read what I said. I SAID ppl like you.
I know of a lot of TB members who've wanted to say their negative thoughts on here only to be bombarded with ppl who are (rightfully) happy with the STL, & don't want to hear, see negative comments about it.
One person who even likes his STL but didn't want to be ostracised on this thread.
These PM's I received are the truth, I ain't making anything up.
Heck as I.ll say again (last time), I liked my STL, I tried it thru many dif cabs,eq settings etc, just didn't work for me.
I've NO prob with the GB guys, they've been great.
As I've said many times B4, I love my Shuttle, & I WISH the STL did work for me, I tried for months.
I think ppl should hear all sides of a story- I hope I ALWAYS do

Hmm... haven't seen any PMs or anything. Weird.

Anyway, this cab is probably my favorite ever. I've used mine up against a Blue Voodoo 412 and Peavey Mark 4 412 with no issues. Mid presence and pop won't be a problem, esp. if your punk tone is more traditional. While you'd definitely be in the clear going with one of your other options, I'd rather get one NEOX and snag another if needed. Perhaps a bit pricier, but modular, flexible, and double the tone.

eh, i started a thread on it, but that's about all.

i've pretty much settled myself on having a fEarful 1212/6 built locally. it's just a matter of reallocating the funds ;)

Your mention of power-tube breakup and touch-sensitivity makes me wonder what you would think of the SL900.

The Streamliner's biggest strength when it comes to breakup, is that it separates the output level, distortion and sag characteristics- at one extreme you can get true tube overdrive at low volumes (like a master volume amp), and at the other, you can use the tremendous output power to get clean tones at louder-than-SVT levels. At higher volumes, the dynamic feel is extremely "tubey", as well. The ADPM circuit gives you just enough sag and give.

However, this is very much IMO and not IME because I never use distortion on bass, but I still see a couple of potential snags for a diehard SVT fan:

One, is that to my ear, the overdrive characteristics aren't quite as complex and reactive as a good tube power stage, more like preamp distortion or an overdrive pedal. YMMV, and all that.

The other, is that the Streamliner doesn't attempt to be an SVT clone (or a Mesa 400+, for that matter). The SL is it's own animal tone-wise, and for my tastes, that's perfect- I kind of like SVT clean tones, but I LOVE my Streamliner.

So, knowing how personal peoples tastes are when it comes to breakup characteristics, my gut feel is that you should probably audition a Streamliner before you sell your SVT, even if it means a couple of hours drive.

PS: Other people are getting double-duty out of their Streamliners, by running other preamps into the power amp input. I suspect that a Tech 21 VT or VT Deluxe could turn an SL900 into a pretty sensational SVT modeler...

Great post steve
I gotta learn how to play with the tube overdrive and running preamps into this thing
More stuff to try! :)

BTW: After the GK NEO 115 115 stack phasing issue was fixed it was a fantastic combo with the Streamliner. Perfect pairing power wise & allows for serious hi-fi tones & tube warmth. Great versatility. People selling the Streamliner because its too muddy are NOT pairing this amp with the right cab for their tone goals. Hell if you went with 10s it would be even more hi-fi! Not all cabs will work, I DON"T like it with my very old Epifani NYC (Not UL) cabs. Way too dark.
So grab the right cabs people!

Very informative, thank you so much! Definitely gives me a lot to mull over.

I wish the local music store had a "borrow" policy...I just wanna try it out with the band, I'll bring it back, I swear!
