GenzBenz Streamliner Pt 8...

Let me reinforce that the power cord fit SHOULD be tight, tight is good. If a power plug is loose, it can vibrate out during the gig and shut you down. Loose is bad.

Regarding leaving the amp on for a few hours isn't going to be a problem. One of my tests is to leave the amp on for 120-240 hours straight while monitoring some of it's operating parameters. No problem. Yes, they will run cool.

had a surprise test today. lets see how hot the streamliner gets aftter 6 hours of being left on.. well its not a test i wanted to do but it was cool ass a cucumber. nice to know.. any damage or things i shhould look for ass a result of being left on that long? bad to leave em on like thatt?

I left mine on for two days straight last week. I had been playing in my studio and got side tracked. Left it on (cranked) and forgot to turn it off.

I swapped a shiny new Electro Harmonix 12AY7 into the V2 position of my Streamliner 900 yesterday.

I'm very happy with the results. To my ear, the bass is tighter, there's more mid boost available, and the overall tonal balance is better. There's still enough gain to get distortion, but overdrive fans will have to rule on whether the OD quality is better or worse. More details on the tube rolling thread:

Hmmm... intriguing.

i've had my streamliner 900 for about a month and have used it on two gigs with my swr marcus miller golight 4 x 10" cab and my fender marcus miller 5 with a bartolini preamp. both gigs were loud. one with a full band at a wedding playing everything from kid rock to frank sinatra. the other gig was on a big stage outside playing original r & b/hip hop in my daughter's original band with a drummer and tracks. lound enough but i haven't figured out how to get a good fundamental with the mids . lots of tubey bottom but i'm sure i prefer the sound of my eden wt-800. with that being said i can lift my entire rig up stairs without straining so at the ripe young age of 54 i'll stick with the gb.

Hey Kerry. +1, knowing your tone goals and preferences, the Shuttle Max 9.2 would be the head for you (or even the Shuttle 9, although the EQ is a bit limited on that one). The Streamliner is voiced almost opposite of what you prefer in a bass tone to my ear. I can see why Harrington likes it though, since he is one to totally roll off the upper mids in his tone. That tone works very well with the Streamliner (e.g., dialing the bass down a bit, boosting the low mids a bit at the 250hz setting or whatever that lowest mid setting is, and keeping the treble flat... that 'crystal clear' sort of J Bass/piano like tone with the treble kind of floating above the meat of the bass tone).

That being said, starting with the bass control around 10 o'clock, and boosting the upper mids a bit at that 2K setting, and dialing back just a smidge of treble might get you where you need to go (combined with a relatively low ratio of gain to secondary volume... try 10 o'clock on the gain and 2 o'clock on the secondary volume).

Hope all you guys in the bid 'D' are doing well!

The Shuttlemax 9.2 is fantastic. Wish it was smaller & more portable though. That amp begs for a rack.
I agree about having trouble with the mids on the Streamliner, its not going to be nearly as versatile as the shuttlemax period. Until they have a Streamliner\Shuttlemax super portable unit I'll forfeit some mid shaping for the tube warmth.

Also +1 about the Eden, I love that amp but its in a 60 lbs rack right now & its DI is TERRIBLE vs the GB

If the DI is set to PRE EQ, does that signal include effects of the Gain button, Gain control knob, and volume knob? Or are those 3 also considered "EQ"? Thanks.

Pre EQ is pre everything, I believe (like most amps)... just a simple direct buffered feed to the board. I believe the DI is 'tube driven', but the gain controls, etc. don't impact it in 'pre' mode.

Pre EQ is NOTHING... only your bass and anything before the Input jack...

POST is everything except the MASTER VOL..

So using the Streamliner DI on PRE EQ is identical to using a Radial JDI before the signal even hits the amp? Sorry for all the related questions. I want to understand exactly what's happening for recording and PA.

Of the DI's signal, the manual (p.4) says "This signal comes directly from the Tube buffered input stage to the Direct Output." My interpretation is this signal will sound tubey, while the Radial JDI signal will have no tube as it comes directly from the bass.

On the Streamliner, there is a tube stage that acts as both a voltage amp as well as buffering the signal. In the "PRE" position, the signal is taken after this stage but before the second voltage amp and variable gain stages.

For those of you looking for the raw buffered non-tube output, the tuner out into an external DI will get you just that.
