GenzBenz Streamliner Pt 8...

Actually, all the orange glow tells you, is that you've got a clear line of sight to the heater filament. Depending on the length of the plates and the internal structure of the tube, you may or not be able to see the heater at work. Some brands of tubes barely light up at all, viewed from outside.

V1 is a different model from the tubes in V2 and V3, thus the difference in outward appearance...

Correct.

Quick question re: tube swap.
IIRC, it's ok to swap Preamp tubes with the power on. Being ultra-careful not to touch anything that should'nt be touched. Yes??

No, this is never a good idea. The grid wires are really soft when the cathode is hot and emitting electrons. Pulling a hot tube out can damage the grid structure. It's also not good for the stabilized internal operating voltages.

Streamliner & his pals :bassist:

I have been using my SL600 into a TB153, or direct, for a while now. Acquired a 1989 Stingray 5 recently and loved the match as well. Last night, while playing with a new group, I took my little Aguilar GS112 - WOW, I really liked the tone into that little cab with the SL and the Ray. Makes me want to pick up a second to have a mini stack. I have had that cab for sometime, played through LMIII and TF550 with it and was never really all that impressed - good, but not great. But, with the SL it's just real nice. Thought I would share. Anyone got a spare 112nt?

I played a Gig last night with my Streamliner 900 and one Berg HT112ER cab. I used my new Stingray Classic I just picked up the other day. Normally with this band I play Upright most of the time. We had decided (after the drummer complained) to go all electric.

Anyway my sound was unbelievable. After getting so used to the looseness of Upright over the last few years, the tightness of electric was a good change of pace. My tone was tight and solid. No boominess I hear some complain of.

I set my Streamliner EQ at 12:00 on everything, my channel gain control dimed, and the pre and master volumes half way. Of coarse I'm using a 5814A tube in V1. I set my cab tweeter on about 1/4 up and ran the bass control on my bass Stingray wide open. The treble control I set a little over half way.

Man what a good tight, solid, tubalicious tone.

Gigged last night at infamous Club Congress in Tucson for a CD release party for my band

Used a Streamliner 600 through my Berg Mini Stack (HT112/EX112). Excellent, plenty of volume, got much better tone
than the Ampeg guy who followed me.

That makes me think.

The Streamliner is not just equal to some of these other brands out there. Both it and the Shuttle 9.0 go well beyond in form, function, tone, light/portable. It's amazing why so many folks play something because it's an ***** and for no opther reason. Even though the company is headquarted in China and is so far removed from what ***** used to be.

Hey Guys, just had a very peculiar problem with my SL900. Was practicing on it earlier today with no issues, then I went and turned it on tonight...everything lights up as normal, but no sound. nothing.

I had just messed with my pedal board so I thought maybe I screwed something up on there, so I plugged straight in. stilll nothing. Switched basses, still nothing. Switched cables, still nothing. As a last resort I plugged my tone hammer into the power-amp in, and then I got some sound. SO...what does that mean? Do I have a bad tube or something? Is teh front jack not working? It looks like all the tubes are lit up as normal...so yeah, not really sure what to do.

Any help would be appreciated. thanks!

Were you using the effects send/return? I had a similar thing happen once.

Double-check that the effects return jack is fully switched. Try putting a short patch cord between the effects send and return, if you get sound, remove the patch cord and if you still have sound, the return jack's internal normalling switch may not have been fully seated.

It's also possible it's a bad tube, let me know what you find out and we'll go from there.

That is one of my favorite years for the Stingray 5..1989 . 88s were nice too. They still had the Alinco pickup then.. IIRC

Thanks for the advice...I'm running out right now but I'll check later this afternoon.
