GenzBenz Streamliner Pt 8...

Me likey those Speakons. Easy to install, universal to multiple applications, and sturdy/good connection. :)

And unlike a 1/4" connection, a yanked Speakon won't put a momentary short across the amp's output.

I wonder how many SS amps have blown over the years, because of people disconnecting speaker cables with their amps turned on? Can't happen with a Speakon.

Ordered some new tubes to try to trouble shoot my no-sound issue. I've never changed tubes before so just wanted to see if anyone has advice (other than having it unplugged and powered down). Do you just putt the old ones out, or do they twist? Also, is it ok to touch the tubes, or would oils from your fingers do damage?

I'm pretty clueless about this stuff.

IIRC The screws in the top of the amp are small Allen screws. I do not remember the size. take all those out, remover the top cover, pull out a tube, and push another one in. Make sure to line up the pins correctly.

Thanks man! Sounds easy enough :)

You should NOT do that... !
+Positive to Positive ... -Negative to Negative.
Yo can buy a pre made Spealon cable fairly cheap.. I recommend that if you are not familiar with keeping Polarities correct.

I guess I should try to wire the speakon from 1+ to 1- and 1- to 1+ and try first ??

When there's no sound, the only thing I can do is to play with the knobs and whatever button available, including the mute, lol

Yup, pack the gig bag right the first time ;)

You can always install SpeakOns on your 1/4" speaker cables.

1/4" is dead for the professional world. Thank goodness ;)
It took longer than I expected, but the first time I had to buy speakon connectors for use on a bi-amped BagEnd system and was able to do it with a single cable which couldn't short out and didn't require any special attention to make sure it was hooked up right, I knew speakon was the only way to go.

Now if they can just do the same for guitar cords.

So I've been messing around with my Streamliner 900 through an Aggie GS112, playing my Sadowsky PJ5. This thing is great! I set all of the controls "flat" on the amp and haven't touched anything yet. Nice and punchy, modern yet vintage, small, light, exactly what I was looking for. It also seems like it has the ability to get stupid loud, but I'm not able to get it cranking at home.

I can't wait to get some more time with it, and I can't wait to gig it Thursday night...

yes, i bought a speakon to 1/4 cable to try (just in case the cab's speakon is not working) and it still the same situation.

i guess that's all i can do, will let a tech guy have a look.
thanks again for the advice

Good! When it comes to amps & cabs I strongly prefer it...

On a separate note, I remember reading about someone having an issue with their power cable a few pages back. Mine seems to have an issue as well. The power cable that shipped with the amp does not fully seat into the power jack at the rear of the amp. It's got a good 1/16"-1/8" to go before it's in all the way, and thus the cable wiggles. Enough that it lost power while sitting on my desk without being touched.

I just replaced it with another IEC cable that I had here and it seats in all the way. Kinda weird, but if it works, whatever.

It takes a good push to seat it, that way it doesn't vibrate out. Similar to those on QSC amps, tight is good.

How good of a push are we talking here? I gave it what I thought was a solid few tries and didn't get it in any further. It seemed to bottom out on something inside the socket.

I'll check it out again tonight.

Wiggle it a little side to side as you push. Pretty hard, you will feel it seat.

It will also loosen up a little over time. It's the tight electrical contacts that you are probably feeling.

Another Streamliner gig today. Loved it. Its a little hard to get a good tone assessment as I was sitting next to my cab most of the time but with my GK Neos it wasn't boomy at all... in fact I felt a little light in the lows as I like to EQ that way. EQ: lows at 9, mids at 2.5K boosted to 2pm, treble 1pm.

When I'm at a church gig I need the warmth, I don't need all the EQ. I played with a Shuttlemax 12.0 last time. Felt great with both amps. While I love all the Shuttlemax shaping I don't use it... I like the smaller footprint of the Streamliner. If I didn't already have a solid state head (Eden Navigator) I would absolutely have kept the 12.0. I felt like the shuttlemax was a tad too aggressive for catholic church but absolutely be my go to amp for rock.

After doing the same gig at the some location I'm happy staying put. I REALLY believe that those bailing on this amp just need the right cab combo. The GK NEOs are really good pairings.

I have just bought a Streamliner 900 and find I'm using the same eq settings, 10 o'clock bass and 2 o'clock @ 2.5k, 12 o'clock treble. That's going through a Barefaced midget t. Really loving the fat bottom.

Meh. If somebody's already invested a couple of grand in their favorite cabs, switching heads is cheaper and easier than building a whole new rig.

I love the warmth and heft of my Streamliner, but not everybody needs it. For instance, if somebody is happy with the Shuttle sound, then I say, "vive la difference".
