Genzler Amplification Club

Yes it is real.. .Jimmy at Alleva coppolo made it for a NAMM show display.. It was so lightweight and Punchy i had to have it. He copied the paint from a HArley gas tank that he saw on the PCH in CAli.

Hey... That bass in your avatar is real?

yeah I'm just an armchair designer/ wishmaker. I cant design cabs.. I only know enough to get myself in trouble.. I don't do it for a job.. I do know people that do it for their job and turn wishes into product using a real honest to goodness designer. .. lol... Genzler has done a great job...

My wishlist is a LOUD, One Cab Giggable Phat sounding cab that is NOT peaky in the mids but presents the mids in a smooth voice. Much like a large studio monitor, that is under 50 pounds.
Something that can go louder than One of my Uber 115s but not as loud as the two of them.. And one that is a little louder than just the MG212.. So i can have a One cab rig for all things. .
Makes my life easier on my bar gigs and nothing changes when i take the same thing to a larger gig except putting it in a roadcase. Just across the board consistency from large to small.
Consistency is the main thing nowadays for me

nice rig BTW.

Sensitivity and lack of a 1.2khz hump point me to the faital. Faital is down at 35 hz whereas the eminence is at 44hz.
Eminence definitely has the win for the most air movement with a higher xmax.

Eminence recommends ~ 3 cubic feet for the cab displacement so not that big after all. They also recommend a steep hpf @ 40hz for this cab.

I tried to find a volume calculator for you online but they only take into account the speaker sensitivity not VD so it really would depend on speaker box design and how well it is matched to the speaker.

Very close in spec with the flatter response and ever so slightly better sensitivity going to faital higher excursion and VD going to the eminence.

Not sure that would see an appreciable increase in volume going to the 15.

Yes It originally had a rosewood Fingerboard and matching heavy sparkle headstock. But i sent it in to alleva coppolo for a refret. And while it was in for a refret Jimmy sent me a spare Maple neck 70's style one piece to hold me over until the refret was done.
Not only did it make the bass Lighter in weight. 8 pounds 2 ounces for an alder body 5 string/ But the bass is even more punchy..
It now has Block inlays and binding..
I dont use it for some situations like my church gigs when Im home and off the road. I guess I could, but i feel its too distracting as the bass saying if it could talk (LOOK AT ME) LOL .. I don't like to distract from the main message. It's not about me.. But boy does it growl!

Nice!! And I just noticed it's a fiver, too.

PS I am going to borrow my friends Ba123 next week.. Im home and doing a RnB / classic rock type gig..
I really want to try it on top of my UBER 115.. I have no idea if they will play together nicely. But I will try it ..

On a 1 - 10 scale in volume.. 1 being a piano bar and 10 being ..just before obnoxiously loud bar band. This gig would be about 4 or 5 .. So average medium volume with a medium drummer that is not a wuss but also isn't a pounder.. Just tasteful
I added some internal damping to my Uber and it made it sound HUGE and tighter.. . People seem to really be amazed at how NOT boomy it is and how it fills a room.. So i will try his BA12-3 on top and see how it goes

Got a question about Speaker Load Impedance. Maybe only Jeff can answer. I'm wondering about trying to use the 2.67 ohm setting on my MG800, and connecting 3 of my cabs at once.

One is an 8 ohm Schroeder 12-PL (Single 12 Neo), second is an 8 ohm Schroeder 12-12 L (dual 12 Neos), and a third is an Epifani 3-10 UL (three 10 Neos) that is 5.67 ohms. The speaker load calculator says the total load is 2.333 ohms. (Usually I just run the two Schroeders for a total 4 ohm load)

I know the Epifani will get more wattage to the drivers at any volume setting. But since it is not as efficient as the Schroeders, that may be a good thing.

Any ideas, or should I just bypass that idea??????

Well the MG800 is rated safely at 2.67 Ω.
I have run it briefly ( one show 90 Minutes ) at 2Ω with zero problems.
I did it just to see what would happen.. What happened was that it worked fine.

I’m very curious to hear your thoughts on gigging the 12-3. I’m still tossing around the idea of getting a pair of them, but I haven’t had the chance to try them yet.

I have never gigged one yet.. I'm hoping to try my friends next week .. He told me that loves the way it sounds. I trust his word..
Im sure i would love it too. . I am pretty OK with what i currently have.. Even though I am a gear HO, I tend to use teh same gear for years and years. I don't really gear hop...
I still use the same gear more than 90% of the time ...

Not a one cab solution, but how about a pair of 12-3's? Or maybe the 2-10 array? After gigging my 1-10 arrays I can say that these cabs do punch beyond their size/weight. Not sure if it's the output of the cabs or the tone, but it's just easier to hear yourself. I play with a more relaxed right hand with mine. My dynamics are more...Well, dynamic! And the tones I get from my right hand seem to be more pronounced. Which, for me, is both good and bad!

I agree with you that I'd like to see a Genzler 15 array cab. That would just be silly. A good (emphasis on "good") 1x15 cab seems to be juuuust the right size for many gigs.

I look forward to your thoughts on the 12-3!

I'm just dreaming. Im home for a few weeks now.. and back here on TB and getting caught up in my gear wishes.. LOL.. But I think you have a good idea..

Id Think i may prefer the Ba12-3 ...i think.. For some reason i have not been able to like 410s or 810 cabs over the years .. . And only after being on TB i think that i may have found out why..

However what used to happen with multi 10 cabs may not happen with the ARRAY type since the mids freqs on up into the treble area come from an ARRAY instead of 4 different point sources as in typical multi 10s. . But in old fashioned type 410s i think there is a comb filtering happening.. And it made those cabs sound different when up close compared to further away. I think that is what the ARRAY invention has alleviated.

I think what i am wishing for is an almost Single Point Source? Like a large studio monitor?? Is that even possible? Again,, I have too much time on my hands right now and just gear dreaming..

Hey all,

So, I won a MG-350 at the Lords of the Low End event 2 weeks ago (I know, crazy lucky to win that!!). Got a chance to meet Jeff Genzler and he gave me a quick run down of the feature set of the head.

I hooked it up at home and REALLY liked the tones I was getting. I decided to try it at my gig last night - No FOH support so it was the MG-350 into a GK NEO 212-II at 8 ohms for a medium sized room. I brought my GK MB Fusion 800 just in case the MG-350 couldn't handle it...

Never swapped it out. 2 sets, 3+ hours of music from Classic Rock, Funk, Hip Hop, 80's pop, Miles, Bootsy, Stevie, synth tones (from my Future Impact and an OC-2+Xerograph Deluxe)....this l'il guy delivered amazing tones. Granted, I was definitely pushing it but it never sounded bad. Both my drummer and singer told me they loved the tone.

Today, I'm looking at a complete Genzler setup. Thank you Jeff G for getting me hooked on your sonic crack. Can't wait to get my hands on the MG-800.

Hello Eddie, Good question. Frankly I don't think you'd have any issues with running these 3 cabs on the MG-800 but I would try it out on your own before a gig. Set the Impedance switch to the 2.67 ohms. As @svtb15 has stated, we have had players run the amp at 2 ohms with no issues at all.
I've heard Doug Johns run 2 of the MG-212T with the MG-800 in a huge horn band and it rocks with no issues.
I think the cabs you're considering would be fine.

Just as a note: Our 2.67 ohm rating is precautionary. When you use multiple cabs it is easy to think you are running a nominal 2 ohm load when in fact you are somewhat under that, which can get on the hairy edge. There have been a few cab companies over the years that have purposely designed their cabs to a lower impedance than 8 or 4 ohms for the perceived "higher sensitivity" and output. When you think you're running a 4 ohm single cab it is more like 2.5, which now if you run 2 of those on an amp, could create trouble.

Maybe a solution like this :-)
Couldn't resist.

Slightly off topic, but I'd love to see some of your settings to get the oc2/xerodeluxe to play well together!

Winner!!!! Basehead, Great to meet you and glad you had the winning ticket for the Magellan 350 prize at the Lords of the Low End event. It was a great time and a good cause. Big shout-out to all the great folks who exhibited and attended and the La Bella Strings crew for putting this on every year.

With other manufacturers raising their prices, it sure would be nice to have a couple of 115 options from Genzler right about now........(fingers crossed for a MG 115 under $800)

I play in two bands. One is a 8 pc horn band that I would want 2 X 115 for 5 string, the other is a 4 pc classic rock that I'd like to use a single 115. I haven't tried the Magellan 112, but I'd feel a lot more confident with a Faital loaded 115 as a single cab solution in that situation.

I use the MG 800 with two BA 12-3 cabs with my 12 pc band. No problems keeping up at all . And that includes indoor and outdoor gigs with four and five strings instruments. And to think I can add a third cab if I need it, ultimate modular rig. I love my Genzler gear!
