Genzler Amplification Club

Just did an outdoor Hurricane Harvey 1st Responders appreciation gig done by our City Public Officials in Beaumont Tx last nite. Several bands on a real small stage and a real circle jerk to move bands on and off with all the political officials. The Genzler MG800 and the two Schroedrer Cabs (one single 12 and one dual 12) were amazing. Every bassist was in awe of the sound and picked that rig over another Ampeg four 10 that was on stage. Nothing but kudos for my amp set up. And none of the bassists had ever heard the MG800 before or even knew what a Schroeder cab was. So we turned some heads last night and also honored the heroes of our area here in Southeast Texas.

Eddie, thank you for supporting a great cause with this gig last night. Also thanks for spreading the word to you fellow bassists. I do think this combination of Magellan amp and Schroeder cabs works very well!!
Jorg does excellent work and a great guy.

Hello All,

I am 99.2% of the way to ordering the MG-800 head and a 210-3 cabinet.
I came down to the Bergantino, Mesa Boogie and Genzler after reading and listening a
lot, I mean a whole lot. I live far from any real stores to demo and me demoing
is a waste of time as a noob bass player.
I'm 66 and a casual guitar player, not in a band and jam with a few friends.
Decided I wanted to do some bass. I'm going with a passive 4 string bass.

I decided against a combo amp. I want something with a good DI so I can record into
Pro Tools and get a good clean sound. I do not want a amp that has a pre-defined
or as I see mentioned often as a baked in sound of its own.
I can play in my 20X20 music room or out in my barn where I can let it loose.
I also will crank up my audio system and play along which I also crank up loud.
No neighbors to worry about and wifey is cool with it all.

I don't think I want a 15" or 2-12's for my situation. Near as I can tell a 2x10 cab
should get me where I need to go and I can always purchase a second 12 or 15 cab in the future.
As far as this being over kill for my needs, well better more then less.
There are volume knobs :) and quality gear is easier to move on if need be.

I really like the flexibility of features with the MG-800 head.
I think it will lend itself to letting me find my own sound as I limp along learning.
I am not sure about the cabinets which is the last hurdle to clear.

I know there are all kinds of cab builders out there and I can see the ones that get constant good reviews.
In my case though I am feeling that which ever company I went with that I should also probably use their
own cabs as they build them to work most efficiently with their own amps.
Is that a reasonable line of thought to take?
I am interested in 2-10" cab because from what I can discern 10's will get me where I need to go
quite easily and it seems they may tend to cut through a bit better in a band situation
though I am sure that is open to mucho discussion/debate/drawn knives :)

Last thing about purchasing. I will have to do my purchase online.
From what I see there is no difference in pricing for the Amp and cab in online stores I have seen
so I might as well as purchase straight from the company web site. Any reason not to go that way?
If not direct from manufacturer then who are reputable dealers near Vermont?

Sorry for the long post but I am trying to get the last details in order before dropping cash.
Thanks for any feed back.
PS, it is no small thing either that Jeff Genzler comes here to support his product.
That means a lot.
Lou

I just had this debate. Magellan MG800 or Bergantino B|amp were my finalists. Either one is excellent. In the end, I have had Jeff Genzler gear (Genz-Benz) for a long time. Many models. They all sounded great. Solid. Dependable. Simple to use and sound great. I went MG800/BA12-3. That one cab FILLED the big room at the church I play at - literally shook the rafters. Amazing little rig.

I'm sure that Jim Bergantino's stuff is great as well. Many people love the B|amp and his cabs. Very tweakable amp, effects, etc. I decided I didn't want/need all that tweakability and like I said, I've had Genzler stuff for a LONG time.

His CS is outstanding. I've talked to him personally on the phone. Just great.

As far as buying direct or from a retailer, I can't answer. I bought mine through Greg at Rocket Music. He has been great to me over the years with Roscoe basses so I went through him for this purchase as well.

I cant speak for the 210.. However, The Magellan 800, although it has a simple control layout is able to get a Myriad of sounds. All usable and very easily. I've never owned an amp that was so easy to get what i'm looking for ... Just my $0 .02

I have 2 of the 210-3 arrays and the Genzler 800 and it is the best tone I've ever had. I at one time had 3 of the 12-3 arrays and they are fantastic but I'm playing alot of smaller churches now and wanted to have a setup where 1 cab and the 800 would be enough and the 210 does that easily. I've played some rather large churches and the 210 easily handles it with a little PA support. You couldn't go wrong with either but the 210 at just 2 pounds more and and extra 100 watts is the choice for me. Best bass cabinets on the market IMO.

Man! It's comments like these that get me GASSING for the BA210......

Great, thanks, this goes a long way to confirm my initial perceptions about getting a 210-3 Array cab.
So lets see that now puts me at about 99.8% to pushing the go button :)

Edit: Did a search on Genzlers website, there is one store available on a 100 mile search with my zipcode.
Not driving 3.5 hours to purchase, IF they even had the gear.
Shipping won't be much more then gas money and less hassle then a 6-7 hour
round trip drive :)
Most online places offer free shipping when spending this much.
Either way, online purchase in any case for me.

Sorry for what might be silly questions.
Do any of you use isolation pads between amp head and speaker cab?
I am guessing the answer will be no.

I will have to get a Speakon cable, I am guessing either 3' or 5'.
Any particulary brand you all prefer or just generic on the rack like Hosa or similar?
Thanks

Just contact Mr. Genzler and all your questions and fears will be taken care of. Then you will soon be enjoying the warm push of air against your body and the ear piercing screams from your Lady's mouth when you crack the windows. :smug:

Just be sure to get a cable with genuine Neutrik speakon connectors. Lot's of reports of problems with the imitation/knock off connectors.
Yes, this is very important for any amp connections. For years there have been issues were people think they have an amp issue but it turns out to be a Speakon Cable problem.

I tend to use isolation pads (typically Auralex or TecPadz) when I use all-tube heads, or if I am using a head with a tube preamp which I know to be susceptible to vibration. However, I do not use an isolation pad with 100% solid state heads, and I have never had a problem with vibrational influence on the Magellan head.

Thanks everyone I think all my concerns have been resolved.
Thanks also to Jeff Genzler for contacting me personally here on TB and helping me out.
I am now at the 100% mark.
Sure makes one comfortable when the man whose name is on the equipment
reaches out and helps a potential customer, sure don't see that everyday :)
The order has been placed for the Magellan 800 head and a 210-3 Array cab.

Oh my, I just noticed the new Genzler Acoustic Amp, my Ultrasound acoustic
amp just took a dump recently and I see this, woofa, I'm in trouble :)
Ultrasound was bought out by Dean Markley they want nothing to do with repairs,
I tried contacting them.
Got me a fancy paper weight.

I suspect you'd be surprised if you run an acoustic guitar through the Genzler bass rig.
