98% of the time i play with a clean sound.. But that other 2% I was at times using my Darkglass VMT pedal .. But i sold it..
Im now trying the new BBDI V2.. The 2nd channel on the MG800 does a pretty good job on its own though.
The BBDI is much more of a tone changer than the Dark glass.
The MG800 takes pedals well for me Depends on how you set up your gain structure at the input.. I do use an OC2 and seymour duncan studio compressor pedal
And if you use lots of OD, turn off the tweeter in your cab.
Im not a huge Overdrive sort of guy though, So i may not be the one to ask.

Is anyone running their Genzler heads with pedals/effects our front? Do you fine folks find that the MG800 plays nicely with dirt pedals and other effects? I haven't had a chance to really stretch the legs on my MG800 due to a temporary loving situation (inlaws are staying with us for a bit).
I typically use a Mad Professor BBOD as an always on light overdrive pedal, then push that into a few more dirts, distortions, and fuzzes (plus delay/verb).

I have a Genzler 800 and use quite a few effects and I think they sound great through the amp. I use 3 dirt pedals in my chain and really notice the different between them. Joyo Ultimate Drive, Way Huge Pork Loin and a Malekko Diabolic pedal. I also have a chorus pedal, EQD Underneath, digital delay and octave pedal.

Yep, almost always have some drive or distortion on, and I use a lot of different fuzzes and distortions in my chain, including an MXR Bass Blowtorch, Way Huge Swollen Pickle, Bogdan Polish Love, Ibanez PD-7, Ibanez SB-7, and a Markbass Super Synth. It all sounds great through my MG800 and pair of BA12-3s, and the drive channel on the Magellan supplies my basic driven tones very nicely.

I mostly use Contour A with the contour knob off. It still provides a low-end boost compared to B, but I do find that too much of the contour tends to filter out some of the mid-presence that I like in my fuzzy sounds. I use dirty effects pretty much exclusively in the clean channel to avoid cancelling out the distortions. For my regular dry sound I will use Contour A Clean for bigger oomphy sound and Contour B with Drive for a bit for dirty / grind.

Also, and sorry if this has been covered here before. And it probably needs to be answered by Jeff. The manual states that the input circuit in the Magellan 800 includes a "precision high order active high pass filter." What is the filter cut-off frequency? Is it adjustable in any way? Does this mean I can do away with the HPF on my pedal board (a Broughton - which has a variable frequency knob)? Thanks in advance.

@arrowsun, Thanks for your question. The "knee" of the HPF is just under 30 Hz so if you mention "cut-off" frequency it is below that. This is a 24 dB slope so it does roll off pretty quickly. If you wanted to use a higher HPF setting you could continue to use your Broughton. We do offer settings on the amp which offer a higher HPF setting. By that when you use the DRIVE channel, it offers a higher setting and the higher you set the GAIN control the more it does slightly roll up the HPF network. This setting also lowers the overall top end so that if your using more overdrive it stays smooth and tight without flubby low end and fuzzy top end. As well when using our Contour B (amber) this does set a higher HPF setting. I hope this info is useful.

Massive booty with sweet spot highs/mids. I prefer cabs without tweeters and the BA12-3 is perfect for this. The off axis response is remarkable.

I played with the distortion a little and it was quite grindy. Looking forward to digging in deeper.

I now see why you haven't rushed to bring a 15" version to market. Massive booty with these compact 12" cabs.

This is one of the reasons my first choice for bass gear is usually "boutique" and small scale manufacturers. Some examples: my Genzler amp, my Dingwall basses, my 3Leaf Audio pedals. Direct contact with the designer/owner of the product, as opposed to dealing with some form of corporate environment. Thanks @Jeff Genzler for doing what you do.

Yes, back in the day a bass player had to have 15" cabs. Then came the 10" cab trend. Now the trend is 12". I like 12". Makes me ponder what will be the next trend - a bi-amped 12" with an 18" sub?

I have been using 15s for a long time . .I still love my Genz Uber 115s.. I sold one recently and bought the MG212 which is a Killer cab..
Doesn't mean i woulnt like to see or try a genzler 15 line array type if they ever did one. I guess just as long as teh speaker has a high Volume Displacement and it's tuned correctly with large enough ports etc , deep lows can come from a box even if it has a 12".
But i'd love to see a Large Volume Displacement 15 similar to that 3015LF with a line array up front. wowowowo

I did try my 3015lf cab with one BA12-3. I actually liked the two BA12-3 better. But I bet if Jeff did a 15 bass array I would enjoy playing through it...I just don't know if I would enjoy it enough over the 12's to want to move it...maybe.

I hear ya. My friend just bought a BA12-3 and is LOVING IT.... he too has the same Uber 115 that i have... I have not been able to get over to his house since ive been out on shows..
But he is raving about the BA cabs..

I did try my 3015lf cab with one BA12-3. I actually liked the two BA12-3 better. But I bet if Jeff did a 15 bass array I would enjoy playing through it...I just don't know if I would enjoy it enough over the 12's to want to move it...maybe.

The MG800 plays very nicely with effects at all volumes. I adore how transparent the MG800 can be (depending on the cabs you are using).

Played a bigger club last night that had their own sound tech and PA. He was very intrigued with my MG800 and BA12-3 cab. Sent him a direct line pre eq. He came up after the sound check and couldn't believe the sound I was getting plus the signal he was getting. At the end of our gig he came up and was totally blown out of the water by my rig saying it was the best he ever heard. He was very interested in how I went from modern tone to the vintage 70's back and forth between the songs. I kept in on clean last night and just flipped between A and B contour. Very simple and it worked very well. He asked where I got the rig and he also said he was recommending it all the bands coming through the club as it was his first night where he wasn't wrestling with bass.

I sent Mic level after giving him the choice. He had a DI Box set up and ready to plug into on my arrival and we removed it and plugged in directly to the MG800. I flipped it around to show him his choices and that's when he started getting excited about my rig. I set it at GND, Pre EQ, and Mic level.
