Genzler Amplification Club

Some action video of the 3x BA12-3 stack from a gig last night in Altadena, CA.
I was very happy with my tone all night. I had so much more to worry about, since I'm BL and this was our first gig with the current lineup. No, nothing to worry about, I'm absolutely in love with this rig.

As the camera person was not trying to take a pic of my rig during the song, thus you don't see much of it. But watch from the very first of the clip, it's there, and then kinda plays peek-a-boo thru the rest of the song.

I'm sure I was mixed into the FOH a bit from the DI, not mic'd. stage volume remained well in control all night.

I got to very briefly audition a friend's MG800 + BA12-3-STR + BA12-3-SLT yesterday at his house (thanks, Brother).
I was very impressed with the overall sound - evenness of tone, punch, depth, & smoothness of the upper frequencies.
He's a very busy (gig wise) bassist & he knows bass gear & he loves the Genzler gear, so I'm sure it kills on a gig as well!
For me, it’s on the gig and in the mix that the arrays really shine. I do love the tone solo, but it is the way that tone blends into the mix that is so special. It’s present always, but never overwhelming or out of balance. Perfect!

Were you in the FOH as well? Sounds great!!
 
Hey all, quick question, and I apologize if this has been covered.

Does anyone know which individual EQ settings are “true flat?” You know how it is; for most amps, the knob set at noon isn’t actually “flat.”

Does this make sense?

@flyingfinbar, thanks for your question, (a good question) and frankly this gets to a very specific design decision we made with the Magellan 800.
We DID want to have an absolute flat setting for this amp BUT also wanted to be able to provide some "flavor" to the response for those who prefer that.

This is the main reason why we developed the CONTOUR circuit as we did --- with 2 options for a starting platform --- actually 3 starting points. Contour OFF for FLAT, Contour A for modern vibe, Contour B for vintage feel---Contour A and B are dependent upon the control setting.

So the FLAT setting on the MG 800 is with the CONTOUR control all the way to the left "0" setting and all EQ controls at noon position. Now---as with all amp designs you need to know that there are tolerances with the circuit components (we're using approx +/- 5%) and then the tolerances for the pots (approx +/-10%).
So in a perfect world you would need to set your specific amp on the scope to find true flat --- but in the practical world, Contour OFF and all EQ at noon.
The practical setting would be what I call flat as a musical instrument amplifier.

Edit- this is for a Magellan 800

In our technical review of the Magellan 800, it proved to be very close to "flat" with all controls at noon. Our "optimally flat" setting was a very minor deviation. We measured +/-0.546 dB variation in the 80Hz to 8kHz range with all EQ controls at noon and the Shape knob of the contour control turned all the way down, and this reduced to +/-0.138 dB in the 80Hz to 8kHz range with our "optimally flat" settings.
