Genzler Amplification Club

Hey all. Looking for some input from the Genzler collective. I make my living playing covers in a modern rock band, having said that, I tend to lean towards more neutral sounding gear, and I'll add "flavor" with technique or pedals. To that end, I've been using Barefaced cabs, specifically, a Big Twin II(212/horn). I dig the cab, a lot, but I recently pulled out one of my old Ampeg PN410 cabs and rediscovered how pleasant a little cab coloring can be. So, I guess my question is are the BA cabs(specifically the BA410) more neutral, like the Barefaced cabs, or a bit more colored, like the Ampeg stuff?

I'm totally intrigued by the "Array" idea! That seems to be some real forward thinking...

We DID want to have an absolute flat setting for this amp BUT also wanted to be able to provide some "flavor" to the response for those who prefer that.

This is the main reason why we developed the CONTOUR circuit as we did --- with 2 options for a starting platform --- actually 3 starting points. Contour OFF for FLAT, Contour A for modern vibe, Contour B for vintage feel---Contour A and B are dependent upon the control setting.

So the FLAT setting on the MG 800 is with the CONTOUR control all the way to the left "0" setting and all EQ controls at noon position. Now---as with all amp designs you need to know that there are tolerances with the circuit components (we're using approx +/- 5%) and then the tolerances for the pots (approx +/-10%).
So in a perfect world you would need to set your specific amp on the scope to find true flat --- but in the practical world, Contour OFF and all EQ at noon.
The practical setting would be what I call flat as a musical instrument amplifier.

WHOA!!! I used my Demeter Bass 400 bass amp with my Array 410-3 last night and that cabinet just killed everything else I've used to date!!! During my sound check both the keys and lead guitar players commented on the massive sound and that the pictures are going to fall off the walls! I had to turn the amp down when the band went through a couple of sound checks!! I was really amazed at how I only needed 1/3 turn on the amp volume to push such a massive sound from the cabinet, where usually the volume is turned 3/4 turn or higher with my other cabinets.
With out a doubt the air pushing capacity of the Array 410-3 is huge!!!

I have another gig this month in a much larger venue and I'm going to take this same rig, with Magellan in tow again, to see how it performs there.

My 12-3 and Magellan 800 arrived

the sound is amazing but i'm getting some rattling on sustained lower notes unfortunately..not sure how to deal with it but im pretty sure its coming from the cabinet (checked the headphone out, its not the amp)

also if i'm just running the single 12-3 with the magellan 800 right now how far can i push the master before i mess up my speakers?

You can PM me and I'll be happy to assist. As for total output regarding knob position, there are a lot of variables. We can discuss that too.

I have a single Array 12-3 cabinet also that I'd run with my Magellan 800 and I wish the variables weren't so complicated, so that we all could be better informed.

Not sure what was going on with the rattling in the cabinet but whatever it was, is gone now after playing through it for several hours. Sounds absolutely amazing.

The drive is 100% useable throughout its sweep. Its much more subtle than i was expecting. Just a nice clip. Running a bit of drive with the vintage contour at about 12 oclock with a small low mid bump is giving me the perfect vintage tone for me.

Also really love how the drive sounded being pushed by a b3k pedal while using the modern contour. Perfect heavy tone.

haven't found a setting that sounds meh yet.

Until i get another 12-3 im running it alongside the Hartke HD112. Turned the tweeter off so all the treble goodness comes through the array


oh and is the fan even on? its insanely quiet. + there is ZERO hiss through the cab. Dead quiet.

My personal experience has been that 99/100 times, the rattle that one is absolutley sure is coming from the cab is something rattling outside of the cab instead.

I’ve probably owned 12-13 Genzler cabs and I believe 8-9 Genzler heads and they have been bullet proof. As a testimate to the quietness he mentioned. I got rig if Mesa 800 and 800+, GK Fusion 800, and Aguilar AG700 mainly because they were much louder. Not to mention didn’t sound near as good and didn’t have the ease of use the Genzler heads have.

For the first time, I took my Array 12-3 to church service today and ran it through my Magellan 800, paired with my Avatar 210 that I leave in the building. I only get to have one mic, so I mic'd the 12-3. It performed very well and it got noticed by a few who asked me what was that I was using.
So I'll be packing my Array 12-3 for service every Sunday!! :thumbsup:

You know rhe best comment I could have about this is getting to know your rig and the full impact of your signal chain, including pedals. A could quality rig will lwt you know when your stressing it before something bad happens. And there is just know way to say that if your Master contol is set to "X" that you're going to damage something.
I've always felt that after establishing how hot my signal is from the bass, I like to keep all of my levels and gain settings fairly balanced, and usually nothing too dramatic on the amps EQ.
Of course if higj dynamic pedals are used like a sub octave pedal uou nees to make sure you accountfor
