anyone have any thoughts on the 800's distortion engine?

I tried for a while to only use it as my low-gain tubey sound but in the end I've gone back to using my SA aftershock. I guess i just like having the super finetuned control of a pedal to get the exact harmonic overtones i want. The 800's distortion engine is definitely serviceable but i wasn't finding it too inspiring it at higher gain settings. Literally my one minor critique regarding this beast

I just used the distortion circuit on a recording for a track a friend of mine is working on. It was the first time I've really used it much and I had it set to break up just a tiny bit when playing normally and distort more when I dug in. I thought it sounded great and my friend really loved the tone. I usually use my VT Bass DI for recording and he thought it sounded much better.

I don't really know from overtones or harmonics. I just know if I like the way it sounds or not. That being said, based on the character of the distortion, I could imagine it might not be what some people are looking for at high gain settings. It does seem to compress a bit more than other ODs I use.

I use the dirty channel to emulate a tube amp but when I want real distortion - pedal all the way. I use a bass big muff (for now - my plasma pedal just shipped - been waiting 6 months)

Straight - straight

Slant - Straight

Can't go wrong with any of them, but I like straight/slant/straight. The SLT is a little tighter in the lows, and the straight BA12-3 is a bit more full and warm in the mids, but they blend very nicely together. I think two SLT's with a straight would be great, too.

As per Jeff’s suggestion when I ran into him at Sadowsky’s place, slant bottom, straight on top and you get the whole thing on a slant. Exactly how I used it tonight. I should have taken the pic from a little further away but it was perfect tonight and I wasn’t in the front end.

I've flipped back and forth a bunch of times and my current preference is Straight on the bottom and SLT on top.
I think my ear is preferring the SLT as I use the SLT as a single for practices and smaller gigs.

3 SLT's would be very nice!
I listened to my friend's STR + SLT & the STR by itself. Pretty sure I'd prefer the tighter low end of the SLT's.

Last nights load and rig. Gotta say that the Genzler rig really brings out the nuances of my Fodera. Rolling the pickup pan just a hair towards the bridge pickup really makes for a killer tone.
