Well, I have lived with my Magellan 350 combo and BA10-2 for awhile and have grown more and more impressed with its capabilities. When I first got them, I was just tooling around inside a medium room to see what I could get out of the setup after having my Shuttle 10t with 10t extension cabinet for several years. Easily both louder and deeper than my Shuttle. Using my SB-2 with TI flats (an admittedly hot output bass for a passive), with gain around noon and master about the same, with eq flat and contour A at about 10 o'clock, it seemed as though the speakers were farting out. I called Jeff...I cannot tell you how patient and kind this man is...and we tried different combinations...I even plugged into a pair of my GS112s...but the issue remained. I tried my MG800 into the BA10-2s and it was totally clean. Jeff kindly sent me a new head...same issue. I went outside to minimize sympathetic vibrations, which did help. Jeff had gotten back to me and figured that I was simply running out of clean power at the amp end (the clip light had never lit up). I began to wonder how Steve C used just the combo on his gigs...I took the pair to a friend's studio for a jam with three guitars, keys, harmonica, drums and vocals through a PA. I was concerned that I wouldn't be heard. I actually heard myself just fine...the Bass Array cabs really do help a lot. It wasn't until I heard a video of that night that I realized the bass was overbearing in that room (about the size of a small bar gig). Back home again, I went into a larger room and stood behind just the combo...and I could not believe the volume and bottom end that I heard standing behind it! By this time I realized that the little sucker was a lot louder than I thought--especially if it was that loud standing behind it, and I had simply missed that point when I had noodled around with it at first...going out about 25 feet in front of the combo with reduced settings, the sound all came together in a way that I couldn't perceive standing right in front of it...loud, deep...full and clear. The next jam night...same place, same guilty parties, I brought the stack, but just connected the bottom Bass Array. The drummer said he could hear just fine, as did everyone else. From my point right in front of the combo, I could hear myself, but I didn't know how it balanced out with everyone else playing. Again, video demonstrated that the bass was solid in the mix...and still, a little overbearing. I was amazed and pleased at the same time.
Yup, this thing is way more competent than I had hoped for and I could see it covering a lot of gigging scenarios in the future...Steve...I'm a believer!
