All good information to hear. In the meantime ----- may I recommend a couple of nice pre/DI pedals in the Sadowsky SBP-1 (his classic tone) and the new Nordstrand Star Lifter which Carey just showed at NAMM. We shared a booth together and that got a lot of attention --- plugged into the back end of the MG-800.

Does this phrase mean that you’re either working on it or considering building a DI pedal?
That’d be so helpful for bass players like myself who can’t use their awesome and amazing MG800 and Genzler cabinets but have to plug into FOH every time. That’d be AWESOME!
Sounds like to me there is in the makings a Genz-Sadow DI/Preamp coming soon. But I guess I won’t need it cause I already have the SBP-1 in a storage box somewhere.
I bought it thinking the church band was going in the direction of DI boxes and IEM. We aren’t there yet.
I actually just this past Sunday unmic’d the cabinet and plugged into the DI on my Genzler. During sound check, 15 minutes before we are to start, I set the Gain to about 9:00 and started playing and had to tell the sound guy to turn me down in the house. He tells me, ‘You’re coming in too hot!’.

Check the back if you are sending LINE LEVEL to the board switch it to MIC and try again.
If it already is then he needs to learn how to move things.
It was set to Line Level. I'll switch it to Mic for this Sunday to see how that works.
I ended up selecting the -8.5B PAD option and Post on the DO and reducing the Gain as low as possible to get through the service, but I was struggling to hear because I was only able to hear from the House.
But I think it's more about the (main) sound guy not knowing where line feeds are coming from and doesn't know what to change, even after being in that position for over 30 years!!
After the service I asked the secondary sound guy, our drummer who has remote access to the board, to look at my levels. He says the board had me up too high and brought it done to where the House was good and I could hear myself through the cabinets.

Yup, sent too hot to the Mic Input of the board.

If you want to send Colored Tone use Post. Be aware that your knobs are changing The House for the bad as well as the good depending. Your choice.
That's interesting because I initially had it set to PRE and adjusting the Gain did raise or lower the volume in the House.
UPDATE: My mind was referring to another bass head as it relates to the GAIN control location on the face of the amp. I was actually adjusting the CLEAN volume knob, not the DRIVE Gain on the Genzler that would impact the House level volume.

So basically, If the Board is set to Mic input (and I assume it was since it was previously using a mic) then my DO should be set to MIC, and if the Board is set to Line input, then I should set the DO to LINE?
Ya, my mess. It is after Gain as that is your signals strength, the Contour, EQ and Master Volume do not go to The House effected.
No problem! I think I'm a little more wiser about how I should set my Genzler for a direct line connection to a Board.
Our soundboard at church (a Mackie 32-chan, but I assume most boards work the same) doesn't have a Mic/Line level setting/button, but just a gain knob on every channel strip. Most likely, the gain was set to the Mic level you were feeding originally, and when you fed the Magellan DO line-level signal you were overloading it -- but it's just a matter of backing out the gain setting at the board on the channel strip to the appropriate level. Ours also has a pad button on every strip in case the incoming signal is too hot.
I'm not familiar at all with the Board in the church, but I would assume the adjustments to the house should have been made there and not on my end,... or maybe a little of both. But I did tell the sound guy before the sound check that I was now plugged into my amp D.O. and not using the mic. I would have thought he would have made whatever adjustments needed to receive my signal.

Yes, if your signal is set to LINE on the DI and it is too hot for the FOH mixer, then switch the MG-800 to MIC level. And I would always recommend using the PRE setting on the MG-800 DI so that you're personal stage tone settings don't impact the FOH signal which is relying on someone else's ears.
