This is my current pedal setup. I’ve got a ton of other stuff not being used currently as well, including several different fuzzes and synths.

Just wondering more thoughts on that mono synth, I was thinking about grabbing one till I read that. Also how do you like the EHX Bass Clone. That one interests me a great deal...

Yeah.. that Mono Synth. I would say that it really depends on your specific application, honestly.

There are some good sounds on it, but despite having "11 different synthesizers", it's really very limited. There are 11 different sounds, and you have the option of adjusting a single parameter for each one (or two if you use an expression pedal). What I found is that on maybe 9 out of the 11 sounds, the parameter that you get to adjust is "Do you want to hear a synth sound or just make ugly blorp noises".

There was really only one sound that I found the parameter knob to do anything remotely interesting at different settings, so really what you're left with is 11 different sounds and not a hell of a lot of configurability. Which, in theory, sounds okay to me; I really am not much of a tweaker when it comes to settings and whatever, so if I had a pedal with 11 different sounds that all work great and sound cool, I would probably be happy with.

Unfortunately, at least for my application, there is really only 1 sound that I could honestly say I would use with any frequency, and my Super Synth does that sound better. And this brings us to the real show stopper, for me, which is the tracking. It's really bad. Certainly for my kind of music, which is up-tempo rock music, it's just not able to handle it.

I think it would be a cool pedal for doing more ambient synth type music, but anything with fast notes or changes will get swallowed up the poor tracking of the pedal. It helps to crank up the dry level, but really all that does is cover up the janky tracking of the pedal.

For the price, it might seem like a cheap way to get some synth sounds into your life, but I honestly found it almost completely useless for what I do, so it will not be going on my board any time soon. For now, my Super Synth will do what I need, and I may look at biting the bullet on a Future Impact at some point.

So, that's my review. Hope it's helpful! :D

As for the Bass Clone, I like it a lot. I use it all the time and it's basically a bass-friendly version of the small clone with more tone controls and a cross-over. I do find that it can do some weird stuff with the volume at times, like if you get it phased in a particular way you can get some weird artifacts or volume cuts, but usually it's just a matter of tweaking the depth / rate to suit what you're playing.

Not a tube fan either. I use a Darkglass B7KU to give me some mild breakup and increased high end. When used with the Drive channel on the MG800 (which I also set at a mild breakup) it sounds amazing. Is it tube like? Nope, but I really like what it does for my tone.

I’m actually reworking my pedalboard with a programmable switcher so I can switch channels, set presets and move my comp before or after the Darkglass. I tend to use the Clean channel with my Standard 4. Where as, I like the Drive channel better with my Modern 4. So, channel switching my MG800 while adding pedals together in any order with one foot switch is key.

All this through the BA410-3 is tone heaven.

UPDATED: Boss ES5 added. This thing does it all!!!

Sorry to hear you’re not able to wear western boots. BTW...our sound tech was literally BLOWN AWAY by the MG800. Loved the distortion that I was putting out at sound check...at first...then he finally caught on that he couldn’t tame it down enough on his board and politely asked me to make some adjustments before his board blew up, lol. Between my new to me 2007 MIA Fender P5 Bass gigging for the first time and the MG800, the band and crowd LOVED the bass sound. A great hit!:bassist:

Make sure your DI is set on Mic, that is a much lesser hot signal than Line Level.

I was actually lucky that I could wear Beatle boots in the day as they were Zip up!! That would have been a real heart-breaker.

@SteveC --- Nice, a "non-boot" gear question. Flat would be noon on all EQ AND CONTOUR at the for left FLAT position. With the CONTOUR at this position there would be no difference in tone with either A or B selected. That is within the tolerances of the control pots.

Thanks, Jeff. I may be trying some new things that I intend to try for my IEM thing at church but will be trying them out at home first. Wanted as “neutral” a starting point as I could with the amp while I experiment with possible pedals.

I saw that you responded to my post and I was thinking, Oh crap, he is going to say I voided the warranty by having boot prints on my amp. :woot:

Then I remember that it is a Genzler we don't need no stinkin' warranty, they do not break. :D
