I had some time to mess with the Overdrive channel this week...for my needs I think it can sound REAL GOOD if used ever so slightly. . The way they made this circuit is really cool..
To me, it actually sounds much smoother than many amps that use a TUBE in the front end to get OD.

I'll bet the two 210s are pretty great sounding .. As well as the 212.. I'm waiting to sell off my two Genz Uber 115s.. Then i am looking to get the new magellan 212 cab..

Man, 3 of those would have to be crushing. I read where Jeff said the 210 had a tighter punch bit, a bit of a scoop in the mids. Any idea where that scoop would be. The 12 is pretty bumped up in the mids. I really like the 212t alot, how doe that compare to a pair of 210 cabs?

I don't notice any sort of scoop in the 2x10. They 2x10 is tighter with a very quick response. I prefer the Array 2x10 way above the Magellan 2x12. I have never tried to get array 12s though. The 2x12 is a great example of a typical design. The Arrays are in an entirely different league.

Does anyone know what the recommended minimum wattage is for driving the BA12-3? I'm thinking of picking up an old GK SS Head that puts out 100w at 8 ohms. It seems a lot of the higher end lightweight cabs have minimum of at least 150w, some even 300w. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I would ask, how loud do you want to play and is this for use at home? For anything other than light practice 100 watts is not enough foruch of any gig volume.
If you drive a low wattage amp very hard your probably not going to like the tonal results.

I think for playing out a minimum of 200 watts would be OK with a mild drummer but maybe/probably not with a couple of cranked guitars nor a heavy drummer. I have used a 200 watt amp with a BA112-3 and this was my conclusion. IMO 100 watts would be fine for home practice only.

Even on low volume acoustic gigs i use my magellan800 watt amp... Its light and small.. And it has a MASTER VOLUME knob that i can use to get to whisper quiet if "i wanted to". But i NEVER want to . :)

I have had amps like my old Crown MA1200 in mono powering a 200 watt JBL 115 cab for YEARS ... You just have to know NOT TO turn it up to where you blow your rig up. I would always rather have MORE power than I need.. i can always turn it down.. And in this day and age power is Light and relatively inexpensive.
I couldn't see myself doing any gig with a 100 watt amp with the exception of a light acoustic gig with a light playing drummer. That's not to say that others wouldn't be just fine with that.
I'm just a fan of clean headroom

It would only work for me with a mild gig. I played a 2200 sq ft room electric guitar, bass and vocals with about 50 people and the 200 watt amp with the 112 was great. And I used it in practice with a drummer but not insane practice volume. I can certainly tell the difference in the 100 watt amps and the 200 watt amps SPL with the same cab. Just as I can tell the difference between a 500 watt amp and a 200 watt amp, and a 800 watt amp and a 500 watt amp. But that would only be a fair comparison with amps tested identically - not different manufacturer's amps due to inconsistent testing parameters. I generally use a 800 Watt amp and used to use 1800 watt amps but do keep a teeny tiny 200 watt amp in a gigbag pocket as a back up and for when I don't need the 800; like the above mentioned gig - they are absolutely perfect for that.

I too love clean headroom. For a very long time I used to use a 1800 watt amp and never blew my speakers. Like you say, that is what the master volume is for. I could use the 800 watt amp for any gig, but I do kinda like the 1.5 lb 200 watt amp as it fits in my gigbag pocket.

Got a BA12-3 a couple weeks ago and did a couple gigs w/PA support driving it with Shuttle 6.0 and was thoroughly impressed. Got a second the other day hooked up the Max 9.2 - Holy bass gods, it is smooth thunder from the heavens! I do like Jeff's inventions! A Magellan is under consideration, I just need to get rid of an amp or convince myself I "need" 7 bass amps lol. :)

Hi all - could use some advice from the crew here. Currently using a Magellan with two Baer M112s. Rarely if ever do I need both speakers (although I often bring them because bigger is better, after all). I'm contemplating going to a single Genzler 112 Array cab, but am not sure if 1) one would be enough for most gigs - medium volume vintage stuff and 2) if there are any issues with using 1` cab and it being so low to the ground (I'm used to a taller stack). Would appreciate any feedback from those of you using a single 12" array cab. I'd love to go all Genzler but prefer not to have to carry two cabs. Thoughts?
