Yes, you are correct. It is perfectly fine to use the MG-800 without a speaker load attached ---- for the use you mention. Same for the new MG-350 which is small enough that it could be considered a "powered DI".

Here's a question that I don't think has been covered. Has anyone tried pairing a Magellan 212 with a BA 12-3? I have the 212 and chose that over the pair of 12-3's as a good one cab solution for most gigs, but what if you need a little more volume for a large room? I know some are using 3 of the 12-3's but what about the 212 with a 12-3?

I haven't tried it personally, but I've heard many people (I believe Jeff Genzler was one of them) say that that is actually an outstanding combo.

Cool! I see that Jeff is online but hasn't seen this question yet - maybe. The other cool thing is that a single 12-3 will probably handle rehearsals and small rooms just fine, so that's the small rig / 212 for most any gig / large banquet room situation with no PA support = 212 + 12-3 should be good! I'm running the MG800 rig BTW.

Totally! I use a single array for practices and it more than handles my 5 string with loud drums.

I do a restaurant / bar gig twice a month and I've been using the 212, but I bet the 12-3 would cover that gig + the owner likes it when we're not too loud. The drummer is not a heavy hitter, so that's another plus. I don't own the 12-3 yet, but it's a short drive away to Bass Strings Online and they're in stock - GAS!

It probably would. I haven't tried it since we play pretty loud classic rock, but I can tell you that two arrays is PLENTY.

Finally got one today at Chuck's in Wheaton MD. That's a good shop over there. Just did a little noodling in the basement, low volume and wow this little guy sounds great. I'm going to have to get use to it because it sounds really different compared to my Bergantino NV215. Didn't realize how much mid content I was missing with the Berg. Gonna gig it on Friday. I got an amp stand also but this place we're playing Friday is supposed to have a raised wooden stage so I'll have to experiment.

@bwoodman. Sorry I missed this earlier. I think if you stacked the BA12-3 on the MG212T you'd have a pretty impressive rig of doom. I would personally turn the tweeter off on the MG212T if playing all 3 but not necessary. Thats just me. Also at the stacking height you will hear so much detail from the Bass Array cab and those additional 2x12's driving under the BA. This would be impressive.
Plus it gives you all of the cab flexibility you mentioned.
If you give it a try let me know what you think.

I have done this. It puts the mids up there where one can easily hear. And a 312 yields SPL to where I just couldn't imagine needing any more.

Looks like mike.. I have not seen him since the 1990s.. .When i lived in NY on Long Island . Mike Frost subbed for me a few times when i was out of town.. great guy.. He and Danny Miranda and i were always swapping gigs ,
