Yes, I own both the MG350 and MG800, and I can't tell the difference when using the clean channel on the MG800. Also, the MG350 covers a lot more territory volume-wise than you might think based on the wattage.

Hello guys, almost all of my musical gear was stolen quite recently, including MG800. At first moment I wanted to sell the BA12-3, the only valuable thing that left, and quit. Luckily I at least tracked down my main bass and electric guitar and with an assistance of police got them back. They were resold already to somebody, so no trace of the amp, whole pedalboard and precious DI box.
Not sure if this is the right thread, but still having the cab I am thinking about myself as a member of this club. To the point - considering whether to get a Magellan again or try something else to pair with the BA12-3. Heresy? The thread became too long since my last visit to read it whole through and searching bits of information. So, do you have any suggestions or opinions. For example, I am thinking about Mesa Boogie Subway (because I was hard time deciding before MG800), maybe one of those smaller Darkglass heads (because it should cover the dirt part of my lost pedals in one package), maybe MG350 (because it is cheaper and would leave some budget for other necessities; soundwise is it really the same as the big brother minus the drive channel?). Getting the MG800 again is still the possibility of course. Any others?

I've heard from some people that they really like the MESA brand. It probably shows up more on YouTube streams or concerts shows than Genzler. (For that matter, so does GK, Avatar and Ampeg in backlines)
The thing I get from Genzler - aside from concierge-like customer support - is a company that is creating new product without the pressure to put out new models like car companies. And, the new product is customer driven with a purpose. I'm not an endorser, I pay them (how crazy is that!) to play a product that is solid and will always work as I want it to.
I posted here awhile back about buying my first bass and the guy had nothing BUT Mesa and tons of it. So, yeah, maybe loyalty through experience has something to do with it. But, that's what makes this a great time to be a play-uh!

BTW, I have a 350 and an 800 and just bought a Streamliner 600 for that little "dirt" experiment.

Plan to sell it when I get it back to buy one of your cabs. Thank you for what you do! I actually have one of your old combos back at my parents place for when we visit.

Oh man! We’ve had a lot of Genzler action in this thread! Been affected by all happening here in central TX so haven’t had much action on TB. I saw some posts about the built in OD on the 800. I love it! I have about 2-3 songs in our bands set list that I use it for with a mild drive and it works great. I don’t use pedals so it works great for me. Also saw the cab questions. The 4X10 is great for a single cab solution. When things are ‘normal’ for us we play one or two small rooms where the cab can handle the bass duties up to things like the Austin rodeo and other venues with full PA’s where the cab is just a stage monitor. I was able to play a couple of gigs last year where I was able to pump some good volume through my cab. It likes to be opened up!!

No doubt, the single 410-3 is a big hitter!! Because of its profile and my back with a lot of age on it, I put castors on mine to help me out. Works great for getting gear in and out of the gigs, too!

I'll have to play around with contour A some today, GK products have turned me off from that sound in general but the Magellan's contour is very gentle compared to that and sounds very good.

I mean the contour control on GKs themselves is often extreme to my ear compared. You're absolutely correct about them being more mid forward. I've had problems with them not playing nice with my aggressive bass and pedal setup, became very icepicky ran loud like it couldn't round out the sound enough. I feel like they are optimal when you just want to plug in and play a bass with fresh strings and a little fret grind with zero pedals involved.

Now for me, I like to boost into the amp generally so that didn't do it for me. I feel like the MG800 provides enough girth to boost into without it getting shrill if that makes sense.

This is just my biased experience with GK anyway. I saw Sikth's first show in the US a few years back and their bassist ran GK stuff and sounded just like the studio albums. It was insanity honestly.

Sssooo i read that turning the contour all the way down shuts off the what I call “tweeter”
Speakers on the slanted array cabs?

I’m wondering if I should’ve went another route then a single 15” slanted array to start with. I don’t NEED another cab I guess, but the tone snob in me wants it’s so I can get the fx like my phaser and envelope filter to really cut through mix and be prominent. I’m thinking maybe I should’ve gotten something that had multiple speakers. Still torn if I should get the cab or just keep trying to eq things. I def think a second cab would put a big ol grin on my face, but I def don’t know which to get. 12” or 15” and then hopefully that would solve my issue. It makes sense that the two fx i mentioned are higher frequencies. So it’s not surprising to now I really think about it that one sub can’t push the fx sound and give the thump at the same time.

I’m leaning toward the 15” only cause the price dif between 12” and 15” is so close that I feel what I’m getting out of the bigger speaker is well worth the price difference. But I kinda don’t know about two 15”s lol. I bet they would sound killer. I would just hope that adding another 15” wouldn’t make it fluby sounding since I wouldn’t be pushing the speaker as hard as I am using a single cab now. Gggaaahhhh decisions of a tone snob lol


Anyone running the two 15” slanted array? If so how is it? And also would anyone happen to be running modulation pedals through the megellan 800 fx loop and getting better results? Thank you all to help this thread is def helping! I love the genzler new gear, to my ears there is just something these amps are giving out others just aren’t. I think the only other bass cab and amp I’d maybe switch to would be Mesa but I tried those two right next to eachother an the mesa subway was hooked up to 4x10 cab the megellan only hooked to the single 15” and still to me the genzler won soon as I turned it on

Firstly - no turning the contour does nothing to the speakers. The array is always on and it's cross over is around 800 hz I believe.

Secondly post your eq settings - I hear phase, flanger, dist, filters and anything else I throw at mine no problem.

The only thing I can think of is you're standing on your cab and the highs are hitting your ankles and not your ears. I use a tilted amp stand with one speaker and that helps a lot. ( not needed as much when I use 2 or more).

post a photo of how your amp is set up because your experience is different from almost everyone else using your setup.

Third - no 2 speakers do not sound flubby if anything you have better attack along with extended lows.

Thanks for comments. Second thoughts already fading away. Most probably will get Magellan again, maybe 350W version would be enough, because I don`t play in noise band anymore.. There is no distribution for either Genzler or Mesa in my country, so can`t compare them side by side anyway, so it is better idea to go with the one I know and was satisfied with.

I got my head in and finally got her running. I am putting it through my interface and monitors until I get my markbass stuff back. I couldn't be happier with the tones I'm pulling from this!
