Genzler Amplification Club

I ended up going with the second 15 STL array and its a killer tone. I did not need more volume but i did need a second speaker cause I couldnt get certain higher frequency stuff to cut through especially fx. The second 15 makes it sound so full and punchy! I also was able to turn down the overall volume a lot adding the second cab. So now I have the Magellan 800 with 2 15" STL ARRY cabs. I am still learning how to eq it all with my basses and pedals cause its so touchy but I love it. I cant wait to get back out there an play. I am sure no one in my area is really using Genzler stuff YET! so itll be amazing to see their faces once they hear what these cabs and amps can do!! anyone else running the 2 15"? any eq tips welcome! I seem to have my jazz bass tone locked. The spector has so much low end, its a little tougher to dial in. Its the 5 string Euro Lx darkglass preamp inside.

With the darkglass pre, those low and high mid controls are your keys to a tone you like. From tight to gnarly.

Thanks man. I play jam band style music. But not just like the dead, like phish, Umphreys, goose, so we have all generas covered really in our songs and cover choices. So I think the jazz bass works great for blues, funk, light rock. Then the Spector is great for everything else. I kinda got caught up in the look of it cause it’s beautiful the Euro series. So I didn’t really realize Spector is more of a metal genera used bass. But I like to think any bass or any instrument can be geared toward whatever you need. The issue I’m running into is the low end. The Spector has the bass knob and I can cut it back but the bass guitar as a whole doesn’t seem to sound as good unless the bass knob is wide open. I even tried cutting the bass on Spector and upping it on my head but still, it sounds better with it wide open. But this is making fx like envelope filters, phasers, synths hard to cut through the mix at band levels. The jazz does great at letting the fx cut, I don’t want to give up on Spector Euro cause it is a very very well made beautiful instrument. One of the most high quality instruments I’ve ever played much less owned.

I tend to sit back on my neck pick up and I’m experimenting with mixing in more of the Bride pickup but the issue is, I don’t like that slaps metal sound you get as you tend to go toward the bridge pickup. If that makes sense. I only want that slap sound if I slap not with my fingers. Going all the way on neck pickup helps but it does make things muffled a little. ssssooooo needless to say I’m still learning.

Thanks for advice, any more I would appreciate a ton! I love my rig! Genzler is top of the line I know it’s just a learning curve for me. I also use a hyper luminal compressor to help balance things out

Is there an "easy" way to use the power amp in with a pre and the built in prw of an MG800 for a kind of channel switching? Just grabbed an SLO IIIs and love the Fender sound more than anything, but like the idea of having both Genzler and Fender tone at my disposal.

Thank you, Jeff sold me on SLT, STR, SLT in a private message. Didn't realize that was what I was looking at in that particular photo and it looks killer.

All my money is going into bass gear for the foreseeable future haha, was gonna get an electric guitar but my passion for bass has been reignited.

What is your main bass if you don't mind me asking?

lol hard to say - probably my LADO Falcon - I have 3 Lados and try to give them equal play - one is a 5 str two are 4’s. The 5 has barts in a PJ the other 4 has EMGs in a PJ config with the falcon having a varitone and two humbuckers (can split to singles or reverse the phase as well). Then I also have an Ibby 6 string - usually only use that for dream theater stuff and it has soap bars...

couple others that see less use include a fretless Epiphone zenith and an old Ibis bass.

I can run them all with the same settings without any corrections necessary and instead the character of each comes out. I did set up my mid curve to sound best with my EMGs On my P pickup and everything else pretty much fell into place.

sorry for a long answer to a short question but I figured you might looking to where our instruments overlap - to date I don’t have a dingwall though I did get a chance to play one and quite liked it.

Is it a bass knob or a tone knob? I almost always have my tone fully open.

If you still aren’t cutting through - double check you didn’t cook one of the mid/tweeters this will kill a lot of the top end if that’s the case (unlikely but possible). Don’t be afraid to use the drive channel. A little hair on your signal may sound obnoxious solo but sweeten up your tone and cut through a mix nicely in a group setting.

I have 3 x 12-3's and they are str, slt, str. The only reason they are that way is I found a used STR for a good price. Eventually I will find a 12 SLT for a good price and I will change it to the SLT, STR, SLT. I haven't compared them sonically but it will send the sound upwards slightly more and TBH I like the way it looks! ;)
Nice! I missed hearing you picked up a 3rd BA12. I'll see your 3 x 12 stack and raise you A BA15-3 with my BA12STR and BA12SLT! Can't wait to try that combo out when things open up.

First I found a used neox 12 - I keep that at one of my rehearsal spaces then I found a good deal on the second str. That one stays at another rehearsal space with another band and now when gigging comes back I can start with the triple stack - I think I only got it out once or twice before shutdown. The third speaker really is magic - I don’t know if it’s the increase bottom extension or just bringing that much higher that does it but - sonic bliss for sure.

going from 1 to 2 cabs was a bigger difference but 3 is sweet. Can’t wait to try your 15!

My brother is bringing his drums to my jam room in two weeks when we open. I have a full PA, a couple of guitar amps, my triple threat rig, bunch of guitar players and drummers and a couple of singers that want to join in on the fun. Also my neighbours want us to play from the garage when it warms up. There is always an invite for you! And, anybody else near the GTA when things really open up.

The old 350 has been replaced. Very happy.

Let us know how you like the drive channel, that channel has got me regretting neglecting a P bass tone and a pick but I'm on the right track now.

I dont know of many ODs, pedals or amp based, that can be dimed and still sound great. This does just what I like and need. If it were a stand alone pedal, I'd own it too. I have a Cusack bass screamer for more modern stuff, though I prefer it as a boost. Can't wait to plug my board on and try boosting this OD. It could become an always on tone for rock projects too.

Boosting this OD with a blend control or not is really something special imo. I really like how full and bass focused it is.

I use the boost switch on my B7k so the drive channel seems like it is low passed somewhere around the 10k region or maybe lower, gives me everything I want without all the plastic highs and needing to EQ in post. Absolutely awesome.

Have fun experimenting!

Sure,
This is an 85-watt tube head vintage, circa 1969-70s.
I recently had the amp completely refurbished, while trying to maintain as many original components as possible.
Most all of the tubes, for example, are vintage as well.
Normally, this head is paired with a single-15" speaker cabinet.
I sold the cabinet recently, that led me to want to experiment with the amp thru the BA15-3.
I have to say, the combination sounded excellent to me.
Super punchy at (non-gig) lower volume.
I'd sure like to get it to a gig or higher volume prax to hear what it sounds like with a little tube breakup.
I would not hesitate to gig this combination, although I would miss "my sound" which I attribute to the Magellan head now.
However, for messing around during lunchtime with a jazz bass, it was a lot of fun to heat up some glass and play thru a venerable amp like the Showman.
That's the extent of a report on my "experiment".

Nice to have such a vintage amp that is completely "clean" inside. Good equipment to have around. I still wish I had my blonde BandMaster from the mid 60's, with a 15" cab.
I do think when you get the chance to crank the Showman with the BA15-3SLT, you'll enjoy the clarity of the tube harmonic complexity and tonal bliss. I would imagine the low end would be nice and tight as well.
Let us know when you get that chance.
