My long sleeve tee arrived too, but it does run a bit small so I’m exchanging it for a size up! Excellent material and perfect for the summer.

So glad you like the smaller Magellan 350. And just to clarify, the chassis is entirely metal. The black finish is very smooth and that may give the impression of a high grade plastic but it is not.

Whoops! My apologies! Yes it is metal.
I came from a Darkglass Microtubes 500v2 and while that amp is versatile (just ask Amos Heller), there really is something to be said about the pristine tones coming out of this Magellan.

OK, so I have a question for the group, I'm really interested in 2 cabs in particular (hoping I'll be in a buying position this summer) I'll be using a Magellan 800, with more than a few effects, mostly various drives/fuzzes. I'm mostly playing rock, but I'd like something that can cover more bases if needed.

I'm currently running the Magellan on top of my GK Neo412, and I'm keeping this cab for the very rare occurrence that I land on a huge stage, this combo is SILLY loud and sounds fantastic, but....It's a LOT of rig for most of my gigs.

The Cabs I'm looking at:
Nu Classic 212T
Magellan 212T

I know some of the differences:

Neo drivers in the Magellan vs Ferrite/Ceramic drivers in the Nu Classic.
Baltic Birch in the Magellan vs Poplar in the Nu Classic
Triangular Ports in the Magellan vs more traditional? ports in the Nu Classic
33-14KHz Freq. response in the Magellan vs 45-14KHz in the Nu Classic

There are obviously many more differences, but these 4 in particular seemed like they could make the different "personalities" between these two cabs more obvious.

Thoughts on which is better suited to my particular needs?

I started with an 800 and after just a couple e pediments have landed on the MG350/12T-V combo. So easy to move around and so loud and full. Anyway, I don’t use effects so like you, I don’t miss the drive or effects loop. I do kind of wish there was still a tuner out as I often just take the amp and a bass and no other stuff, but as I have a tuner and compressor on my IEM aboard (Nano) I’ll probably use that in front as I love my compressor and it’s not thy much more to bring to a gig.

Quick question that I haven't been able to find an easy answer to - when headphones are plugged into the rear of an MG350 head, does it automatically disable the the output to the speaker or does the speaker need to be manually unplugged?

Asking for a 'friend' who assumed the former when purchasing and is experiencing the latter and finding it a real pain.

I have only used the headphones when going for silent practicing, so I've never had a cab installed at the same time. If your friend is having a hard time hearing himself in a mix, then your friend has bigger problems that I don't know if I can address in a forum such as this.

Just discovered something... the tuner output works when the amp is turned off.

That's really the question - for silent practice, do you have to have speakers unplugged from the rear or will plugging in the headphones automatically disengage output to where you don't have to unplug the speakers.

My cheap, tiny Yamaha desktop overrides speaker output when headphones are plugged in. I alternate between silent and normal volume practice and plugging/unplugging is a minor annoyance that's growing on me.

I don’t think the issue was being heard in a mix. If I read correctly, the friend just wants to be able to play silently through headphones without unplugging his cab. I can’t answer redlizard’s question. Hope someone can.

Yes, this exactly. I should have been more concise in my post. In an ideal world, I'd just plug in headphones and cabs would go silent automatically and I wouldn't have to remove both cab speakON connectors. My MG350 doesn't do this, trying to find out if it's supposed to or not.

LOL, it doesn’t. Let me tell you how I know.

My wife and I put our one year old down for sleep for the night. I had a couple whiskeys and said “I’m gonna skip down into my music room and play some bass, you won’t hear me.”

I’m down there, headphones in, and I start hammering away on my ‘62 AVRI jazz, and I’m like “damn....this thing is RIPPING tonight!” I’m blasting away in my own world, running through some classic lines for warmup, changing some settings on my fuzz pedals, using the momentary feedback oscillators to get some gnarly shrieks and squeals, getting ready to practice some tunes, when a tap on my shoulder scares the bejeebs outta me. I mean full-blown, hands flailing, flatulating panic reaction. It was my wife. Apparently, when you plug the headphones in, you DONT disable the speakers, and my 6x10 was reverberating through the house. Woke the baby up. The dogs were confused.

One of the reasons why I use the Sennheiser HD599 – open-back!

Ouch! I had a similar experience with my wife today. Thought I was being quiet while she was working. Turns out she had ignored it yesterday, but reached her limit today. Now I'm in the dog house. I was secretly hoping mine wasn't working correctly. Not a deal killer, but wish I'd asked more about it prior to purchase.
