Genzler Amplification Club

It's interesting that the mention of a new Genzler amp just came up again, since I have been daydreaming about that exact thing this afternoon. What might be interesting to see, more as an ideal than practical:

o A second semi-parametric mid control (totally agree with @kringle77 on this).
o The new 1200-watt power module with 2-ohm capability (I know, but better to have and not need...).
o No overdrive channel. The 4otFloor pedal has this covered (I'll be receiving one sometime this week).
o A variable HP filter.
o Keep the dual contour feature for sure.
o Deep and bright switch (maybe)
o Kind of ambivalent on the tube pre-amp. I didn't notice much difference between the clean and tube preamp channels on the ShuttleMAX amps, but maybe I didn't spend enough time working with it.

In the mean time, my MG350 and MG800 are serving me very well.

I have to admit, I briefly owned a Genz-Benz Streamliner 600 and a Shuttle 9.0 and they weren't bad, but they just didn't have the punch and immediate attack that I like. I have always liked the idea of tubes, but haven't met an amp with them that I really like. Not that have tried a ton. I do have and like the Shuttle 3.0 though. Maybe the lack of a tube or tubes plays into that.

I love my Magellan 800 though!

Don’t want to offend anyone, but the amp features you describe is a cross of an Andy and Jeff design. Magellan 800 and Mesa D800+. Just sayin!

No offense taken at all! Yes, my description has Andy and Jeff all over it. I will also mention that most of these features were already present in various Genz-Benz designs which already had Andy and Jeff all over it (not forgetting Scott Andre's contribution as well). What a great selection of gear we have to choose from!

I think this hybrid collaboration would be my net head. My D800 + is so sweet, but with some of the Magellan 800 features added, perfect. Only thing missing are two BA cabs!

My band is a loud stoner rock outfit so I'm not sure a single would work. What about adding a 15 to the 12-3 I already have? What's the current mindset on mixing cabs? I think these two would work great with my Forte, but I know lately some cab lines are designed to work in unison regardless of the cone size, like Mesa Boogie I think. Some others don't recommend it. The only thing I'd worry about is the cab handling of 750 watts vs. the Forte's 1200 watts at 4 ohms. Not sure if I'm overthinking this, I just don't want to get the wrong setup and damage something.

I bet the 15 matched with the 12 would sound amazing! I think as long as you kept an eye on the volume and listened for any speaker distress you'd be fine....I'm sure that setup would get plenty loud.

They pair quite nicely! I was up against a couple of loud guitar players last week with great results and compliments on my tone.

Doing a little testing this morning.

I like how the 800 drives the 12T-V’s better than the 350. For some reason that may simply come down to watts, there’s just more of everything and the cabs sound better to me.

Likewise, I recently nabbed a Noble but hadn’t tried it yet. So I first ran it into the effects return of the 800 which was nice but didn’t do much for me. But plugging into the input was, I don’t know, magical?! It added further definition, warmth, and air to my tone that was really quite pleasing. Doing an A/B really highlighted the difference keeping the contour and EQ exactly the same. Obviously some of that comes down to the bass and treble controls in the Noble but it also brought out some clarity to my no.1 bass. Signal path was simply bass->Noble->800. My no.1 has an Audere Pro JZ3 preamp that was set flat (I only use it for quick tweaks to account for venue anomalies).

This only means 1 thing; I now need to go haul in my BA cabs and pedalboard from the truck to test it with the full gigging rig to see if one more piece of gear is now be necessary. Lord knows I don’t need it as the 800/BA210/BA15 was already magical to me.

Hey everyone! I'm already in here with a Contour 115 and Focus 115 extension cab. Lucky for me, I just grabbed a Shuttle 6.0 and 210 Combo at Guitar Center for $499 and can't wait til it gets here!
My question is...how will that 210T cab match up with the Focus 115 in the off chance I don't want to run matching 15's? Thanks!

I’ve got 2 Magellan’s and 2 Streamliners. I love the Magellan too, but I think the Streamliner is the undisputed heavy weight champion of the world.

I found the same thing with the Noble - sounded much better into the input than into the effects return.

Again, when Jeff puts out the version with a tube preamp, problem solved. I’m not even kidding. I’ve been using a Magellan, sometimes two in a billy Sheehan style rig since the amp first came out. It is my all time favorite gigging amp ever but, I’m always having to use an outboard eq pedal and something else to give it a little more character. It’s still my favorite and I’m glad to see that there isn’t been a new version every 6 months just to Almaden more sales but, I think it’s about time to replace the count our control with a second semi parametric mid and out a tube in the input. No insult intended, I’m a huge Jeff Genzler fan from way back.

IDK, the old stuff had tube preamps so it isn't doesn't seem to be a huge stretch. Lots of cab options out now, so maybe the focus goes to a tube preamp head of some kind? Who knows.

In the mean time, I've thought about trying to find an old Streamliner from the Genz Benz days for my tube fix. I sent a note to a certain someone who said they may have an idea or two.

I think that sounds like you are able to "point the finger" at this group when your FedEx guy drops off a new 12-3, 15-3, 800, 4 on the Floor order. "Those guys made me do it!"

I am not guilty of buying an 800! Yet. But I am of getting a BA15, BA12, 4OTF…

Maybe a tube in a pedal/preamp/DI format? That way you could put it in front of anything without having to "distrupt" the amp line. Maybe another Jeff'n'Andy collaboration? That way you could use it on the non-tube Mesa line too!
