I have a question for Magellan 350/BA10-2 combo users. That's my rig with a second 10-2 when needed (which is almost always since 2 sounds so much better!). My issue is with the combo bag - I find it just a tad too tight and a real pain to get the rig into the case and zipped up - almost so that I'm considering just detaching the head and getting a second slipover for the cab. I love the combo idea, but packing/unpacking it is a real pain. Wonder if I just got one that was cut a bit small? Anyone else use the combo bag?

A couple of years back I used the combo bag; I don't remember it being too tight of a fit. It offered great protection for the combo, but I eventually decided it was too bulky. I now just use a BA10-2 cabinet cover on the combo. Of course it's not a perfect fit, but it offers good protection and is much easier to carry. Note that I always transport my gear in my car and not in a band truck.

thx, I do love the cab cover - easy on/off and good protection. My combo bag is super-hard to zip closed. I may go that route and just carry the head separately.

I have the combo bag and don't remember it being a tight fit, although I never use it. Gear just fits better in my car without the bag. I suppose it it were raining on gig night I'd reconsider, or just go with a large trash bag.

Played a gig last night using my MG 350/12T-V. We played this room a few times pre-Covid and for those I used the MG350/BA 10-2 combo. I must say the 12T-V provided more punch and a thicker, fuller tone.

Gig went well; Bass & Amp sounded great, my vocals were on, and the fish and chips were excellent. The only down side was I was sandwiched between the guitar and drums. Too tight. And I prefer the guitar further away from my eardrums. Fortunately we didn't get into a volume war. Blend was actually superb.

I made the same switch. Went from MG350/BA10-2 to the MG350/12T-V. Both are great, but the 12T-V just brings a little more to the table, and I wanted to stay to a one hand grab rig

That said, I have been thinking about trying a Streamliner. I have come to really like the sound from my REDDI tube DI when I do DI/IEM gigs and would like a similar sound when I use my amp. The head wouldn’t mount like the MG but I’m thinking it could be a nice combo.

Is anyone here doing that?

If you guys don't stop posting pictures of your MG12T-V cabs I'm going to end up ordering one (which wouldn't be a bad thing)!

On a whim, I bought a couple of Phil Jones C4s to make a little mini stack with 8x5" drivers. I will say it's pretty cool but I took a single C4 out with me to an outdoor gig. The sound died a silent death about 5 feet from the cabinet. I suspect that would be true of any small, single cabinet without much reinforcement (there was a PA so I'm sure I was heard).

Anyway, I'm thinking the 12V-T would be a better single cab solution to the two C4s which again are cool but not that practical for my use. I use them now for home practice and very small gigs.

BTW, this week my BA15 will be going with me to the same outdoor venue along with the MG800. No 200 watt head and 4x5 cab for me this time!

Would love to hear if anyone has A/B'd my exact setup or something close like a PJB C8 with the MG cab. If so, please chime in. If not, please chime in. Love chiming.

I haven't gigged with that PJB cab you describe, but that has been my experience with them when I have demoed them- not enough air being moved to handle a gig of any decent size. FWIW, I just finished my first gig of the day - outdoors, moderate volume acoustic band. Used both 10-2 cabs with the MG 350 with no pa support, sounded great, not even close to pushing it. Now heading off to a larger gig where there is full sound support, only bringing the 350 and 1 cabinet as it only needs to serve as stage monitor for me. Its really a very versatile setup, and very easy to transport.

I'm not sure I would do that. If I remember correctly, you have a BA 12-2 and BA 10-2. I've been playing with that combination against 2 12T-V stack all morning and there's not a great difference.
Size, weight, footprint goes to the 12T-V, as does Boom and Fullness. Clarity and definition go to the BAs.

I would be very happy with either set.

Not sure why I purchased all these cabs. I blame TB & this group. Plus there's nowhere near me to test these things out. So it's buy and sell off what you might not use (or just keep them all).

@bherman --- send me an email and let's discuss your carry bag. It should not be so difficult to get in and out.

Years ago, I tried a PJB suitcase with a B4 extension speaker, so 8 of the original piranha speakers. The tone was nice but the speakers were very inefficient and the stack was very heavy for the limited output. I think the MG12T-V, which I have used, would handle the job nicely.

That's a very helpful picture and illustrates part of why I'm considering a pair of MG12T-Vs (I've tried a single before and liked it). I do have a BA12 and two BA10s. I started with the pair of BA10s which I really like and then added the BA12 to get more low end. I've played the BA10/BA12 combo at several venues and it's sounded great.

However, I'm finding that most of the venues I play at have small stages and our band is usually cramped. At last night's show there was barely enough room for the footprint of the BA12. I'm usually standing right in front of my amp. So, the MG12T-V stack has a smaller footprint and gets the speakers closer to my ears. My band has two talented but busy guitarists and I'm thinking that a pair of MG12T-Vs would offer a nice foundation for them to play over. While the BA12 isn't a difficult carry, the BA10s and the MG12T-V are much easier to carry up and down my steep and narrow set of stairs.

Having said all that I do slightly prefer the sound of the BA series. I'm going to try the pair of BA10s tonight with the MG800 to see if that brings more beef than the MG350 (a low volume situation so no strain on the BA10s). I'm also willing to try a BA10 on top of an MG12T-V (with the tweeter turned off and a gramma pad between the speakers for stability). There's no telling where I'll end up but I'm enjoying the ride!

That's a whole lot of Genz Benz goodness right there.

I think your TalkBass name means "dark yew" in Irish or Scots Gaelic. Am I close?

Very close! Dubh in Scots Gaelic is black, Eogan is CLOSE to my name "Jamie". Therefore, Jamie the Black. I do blacksmith and Leatherwork for fun.‍♂️ Also, Eogan does utilize Yew in its meaning.

And yes, super happy with my combos!

I used the MG800 and a pair of BA10-2s last night at the familiar restaurant/lounge where I've played many times. I normally use the MG350 with the pair of BA10-2s. I would say that the sound was maybe a bit fuller with the MG800 but not dramatically different. I thought the MG800 might add more low end but the BA10-2s sounded like, well, the BA10-2s. Even without the extended low end I was very pleased with the sound. I'm still thinking about trying the MG12T-Vs...
