So I was all excited to use my BA12-3 for the first time at a gig, a medium sized bar/venue. Get there and go to put my cab and B Amp on top of the house 410 and the sound guy says I have to use their amp. “Not my rule, there’s another band after you”. Have to put my rig back in my car, and spent the whole night with the hartke 410 cranked and pointed directly at my ankles since the stage was so small, and could barely hear myself.
And the funny thing is 1) the sound guy gave a whole speech about how this venue has weird acoustics and we have to try to keep our stage volume low so that he can balance the band in the house (gee wouldn’t a 112 at ear level be a good idea?) and 2) there was 1.5 hours between when we finished and the next band was scheduled. So yeah, good thing I didn’t use my own amp, who knows how long it would’ve taken to get my rig torn down

Nothing wrong with Hartke but gimme a fracking break! Since when does the band work for the sound guy? Isn't it suppose to be the other way around?
We’re playing that place for the first time and trying to get a good relationship going. We even passed on taking a cover in the hopes of getting a good crowd and getting more gigs in the future. I certainly thought about letting the guy know that this would be in everyone’s best interest, but decided to be a team player.
I can see if the bands have a short turnover time. In this case there was ample time but it’s good to be a team player in those situations.
@PotsdamBass8 did the right thing. Go with the flow. Not having a preferred choice of amplification on a gig is a drag, but in the end it shouldn’t be a big deal and shouldn’t effect (affect??) a performance. Just play the right notes at the right time, get paid and go home.
In my book, the affect of the sound guy, in effect, affected your confidence, (regardless of the numbers of effects you were using). I agree - go with the flow - but then, try to affect the next performance by telling the sound guy - Go Genzler or Go Home!

Next time bet the sound guy $20 that he's never heard a better rig than your Genzler. Afterwards, he'll likely say he's heard better, and you'll pay him.
However, you'll play your rig without the grief you experienced playing shlt gear. Well worth $20.
Then, maybe next time you play he'll be happy to let you have it your way, knowing that you do have the best rig he's heard.

I think I’m going to pull the trigger on 12-3 BA today. Going with the straight because I want as much low end as possible without going to the 15.
Was there a handle on the side that is no longer there on newer versions?
Also, how is the schlep? Is it awkward at all?
I currently have an audiokinesis 1203, which I love, but finding another one of those is like finding a unicorn so I’m doing what I wanted to do years ago but couldn’t afford it at the time.

Indeed, older versions still got a handle on the side instead of the top. I actually like it better this way, as the cab is more wide than tall. Only drawback is the lack of rubber feet on the side of the cab for setting it down on its side. I added some of those to my old 12-3 cab.
The newer covers have feet on the side so at least when schleping it in the cover, sitting it down places it on feet.

Such a drag….sounds like the sound-guy Just didn't want to have to try to mix a different cab that he didn't know anything about. I have run away when there were conventional 410s…well, not really, but I have always wanted to run away when I have been told to play through one live.
My philosophy is if it pays well enough you do what the venue asks.... If It is basically a break-even proposition for me they can go **** themselves. Not going to play for free and be unhappy lol
Gah! I’ve got gigs this weekend and this has been sitting here since Saturday as I’ve had ZERO time to give it a whirl! Do I do the unthinkable and just throw it on the board in place of the Broughton Messenger and just wing it?

Ok. Found 10 minutes and did a short test after I swapped it onto my board. I was running the Broughton at 18V so I didn’t feel the need to reduce it to 9V. The EQ will work great on the fly and I set the LPF/HPF to round off the unnecessary edges (which may be a bit redundant when running the Magellan head but so be it.) I’ll run it through it’s paces live this weekend and go from there.
