Genzler Amplification Club

I have been doing some serious Genzler cab testing lately and honestly could be happy with either the NuClassic combo or BA combo. The Nuclassics are amazing cabs and the 12”s extend deeper and hit harder down low according to my ear. Might not be on paper and could be how my ears are hearing them compared to the more mid forward BA combo.

I tried just about every combo and orientation and prefer the BA 15-3 on top of the BA 210-3 slt and I prefer the 112 NuClassic on top of the 210 Nuclassic. I just like the way the mids are presented in those configs.

I was on the fence between going with another 15-3 when I purchased the 210. Now my next step is to find one of those try it and find my favorite combo to keep. Both are so good and just different flavors.

Based on the low end response of the NuClAssic 112s and the mid response of the BA 15-3 I and for grins I tried it. Switch over to 2 ohm and boom. Big, full sound with mid cutting clarity.

First outing with the Re/Q on Friday and it immediately earned its spot on my board. I was checking my gear and playing a little bit and the sound guy was on stage hooking our snake into the PA and he asked me if I was able to pull out a little around 200Hz as it’s hard to control in that room. Well, forgetting the mid sweep on the Magellan head goes down to 150Hz, I turned down the low mid to about 10 o’clock and that seemed to please him.

Then, Saturday night, we played a big cavernous room for a wedding and it was a bit unwieldy. This time, I employed the HPF at around 70Hz and hit the low mids again to tame it. Very easy to use. Great kit.

Did you try a BA with a NC112? I couldn’t tell for sure from the last paragraph. Curious how they mesh.

I did. Sonically it is good with tweeter attenuator off on the Nuclassic 112, but visually and stacking it is a no go for me. Now, using both 112s as a base with the BA 15 on top is great sonically, and stacks better but in reality I probably wouldn’t use it that way on a gig. That is my reason for wanting to try out another BA 15-3 and see what I get from coupling with that cab compared to the 210. Or maybe I will use all three!

Just when I thought I was all set with a pair of MG12T-Vs!

Yeah, you're right. I did a Christmas show last night. Only the three voices in the PA. Two guitars and me, no drummer. The MG350 into only one MG12TV did the job with ease.
Agree with this - easy to get carried away and always look for the next best thing when what we have in the way of Genzler gear is already more than adequate.

If that pair is anything like my NC212T, you're good for anything. My 500w amp hovers at 50% in a very loud band.

Efficiency > more drivers

Yes, I agree here as well. Last weekend was the MG800 into the pair of MG12T-Vs. PA carried vocals only. Two busy guitarists, moderate drummer, venue with a high ceiling and 100 to 150 in the audience. I had to keep the volume a bit under 9 o'clock to avoid overpowering the band. It really is a remarkable rig, as I'm sure that NC212T is.

One of the best things about Genzler cabs is the bracing. I can set anything on top and they don't move an inch.

Question for the group...

I have a Nu Classic 112 and want to get a second cab. For some flexibility and variety (as well as weight/cost), I'm thinking of getting a NC 210, rather than the 212. (Probably would not go with a 2nd 112, though)

In my googling, I've seen the combination of the 112 and 210 labeled a "stack" in a few ads for music stores. (But can't find much on here about the twosome.) Any ideas how they sound together, or at least if they won't have some undesirable characteristics when combined?

This might help;

have fun :)

200Hz seems to be a problem frequency for me while playing through the MG800 DI + cab IR over headphones. I've been using a decent cut with the sweepable mids in that area and it's really cleaned up my recorded tones. The major 3rd harmonics are very blatant to a fault otherwise.

Funny enough I've been having more success with recorded bass tones than with a physical cabinet and I'm almost certain it's the cabs I'm using in conjunction with the settings I use for recording. Gonna have to go back to "safer" settings for this theatre gig I have coming up.

@SLPimp, @RColie, @Chuckleberry ---- a few comments from my side. The cabinet bracing is one of the most important components of lightweight cabinet design, which does not get a lot of discussion. With the Nu Classic series, it was very important to keep these ceramic magnet speaker cabs as light as possible when designing the cab construction.
Even though we were using lighter plywood materials the bracing took on even more importance. One reason we're using the shelf port design is that it also stiffens the lower portions of the cabinet --- and with the vent separations this also helps to tighten everything below the baffle. Internally we always secure the baffle to the other panels via specific bracing designs.
With the Nu Classic's we have basically a large brace in the center of the cabs (the larger NC-212T has 2) that looks very much like the truss design of the roof of a house. I do call this "truss-bracing" actually. Because the brace is not a solid panel it holds down the weight and the fact internal bracing attaches to the baffle, the cabinet sides and the back panel near the jack plate, it keeps these lighter wood cabs pretty stiff.
I keeps each cab tight, which allows each speaker compliment to really deliver their own unique response. So each model will have it's own tonal characteristics but yet the entire line as been designed to work nicely with each other ---- building blocks of tone, you could say.

And while the NC-210T is perhaps my favorite cab (in weight and performance), adding the NC-112T under really does bring an added LF depth to this compact stack---plus much more output. Both work great on their own or as a stack. There would be no "sonic response" negatives to using these together.

I hope this background is helpful.

I've always liked the the combination of a 112/210 stack with a couple of brands. I played through a Bergantino 112/210 stack and while each cab was great on its own, the combination was much more then the sum of the parts. Same as in the above video by Nate. The 112/210 stack is by far my favorite. Obviously it is more flexible as well as you can opt for a single 12 or the 210 depending on the venue, gig, desired sound. (Un)Fortunately I will probably never have a gig where I need that much power/surface area. So far, my MG350/112T-V Combo has been more than enough for any of my gigs that require "traditional" amplification. It's the one negative of being in a DI/IEM/Silent Stage situation, no need for cool backline. :(
