Hi Jeff,
Interesting info on the inside/outside voice coil windings. Was this design change for Series 2 due to real world documented cases of voice coil damage to the Series 1 speakers? Or was it simply to reduce the potential for damage across the product line? I haven't heard any rubbing or rattling from my Series 1 BA210-3 cabs, but want to insure best survivability. Secondly, do you upgrade Series 1 cabs to the new inside/outside voice coil windings and is it a simple swap out or, are other upgrades necessary?

@Luckydog ----- thank you and others for your interest and questions about the new drivers being used in the new SERIES 2 cabs.
To clarify the little BA10-2 (series 1) always used an Eminence NEO 10" driver, with a standard wound voice coil ---- wire wound on the ourside of the voice coil former.
BUT our previous larger BASS ARRAY cabinets used Faitals which did have the inside/outside wound voice coils on most of their drivers.
SO, with the change to our new LaVoce 10" on the new small BA10-2-S2 cabinets we were able to add a driver that was more efficient AND offered the benefits of an inside/outside wound voice coil. We feel the benefits are evident in the power handling, output and how it handles the low B notes of 5 string basses. The smaller 2" drivers are standard wound VC, since the benefit of inside/outside VC on smaller drivers is not cost effective or required.

In general the benefits of an inside/outside wound VC is better thermal management, thus higher power handling. They also are more balance and will not deform as easily under extremely stressed conditions. If you can visualize, standard "outside wound" voice coils have 2 layers wound on top of each other, on the outside of the former. Thus the inner winding does not get as much cooling since another wire winding is on top of it.
With the inside/outside, both windings get the same cooling efficiency since they are both exposed to airflow, PLUS you now have widings from the voice coil right next to the pole piece in the center of the magnet/motor. This offers another level of efficiency in the all imporant voice coil gap.

For the larger BA cabs, yes there were several reasons for considering an upgrade to the speakers used as we contemplated the next genration, SERIES 2. Finding drivers that do have this inside/outside VC winding was an importnat "driver" in selecting the right drivers --- if that makes sense. And as we reviewed options the efficiency of the 3" driver we found in the LaVoce line was very intriquing in making our selection. Hopefully more and more players will be able to test the new SERIES 2 and experience the depth, clarity and overall extended frequency response of the cabs. We do feel this has upgraded the performance of the unique BA cab designs.

The Pre-DI would be a better solution than the RE/Q for this application, and it would also give you additional options for shows where the back line is provided.

I've been really impressed with my new BA10-2 series 2 cab using my Mesa D-350 and Aguilar TH 350 heads, so much so I just ordered another cab sooner than I had planned because there was only one left from the merchandiser where I purchase from and Jeff had informed me that it could be sometime in Sept before he could send them any more. I'm selling both my Warwick cabs, a 4x8 and 2x8 they sound muddy in comparison and weigh a heck a lot more, these weren't cheap cabs either. This little BA-10 S2 is a monster, don't let it's tiny size fool you. These are not inexpensive by any means at $800. You could get 2 Trace Elliot 10" cabs for considerably less than just one of these but this is a good case of you get what you pay for. I had a Mesa SW115 I was trying out right before this which is a cabinet with a lot of following and for good reason. With all due respect I really liked it a lot but decided to go lighter and smaller with these arrays and so glad I gave them a shot, definitely not a downgrade. I've never heard such articulation and detail before with my Stingray Specials with a bottom end that is hard to believe is coming from a 10 inch driver. I think since the mid range and highs are all supplied by the four 2" array drivers this leaves the 10" driver to do one job only which to bring on the bottom end and it does this with authority. In the room where I play my bass I was always moving and turning the angle of my bass cabs trying to get the best sound and sweet spot from where I am sitting. This was always an ordeal each time I pulled put my bass gear. With the new BA-10 2 S2 cab the sweet spot is so huge I'm not wasting time moving the cab around the room, it just sounds good most anywhere or at any angle, sweet! Can't wait to get the matching cab and running my heads at 4 ohm loads for full output. From what I can tell from using just the one cab, two cabs is going to sound absolutely huge! I'll post some photos and impressions once I get it all set up sometime next week.

Skunk, what did I tell you? Ha. I am not one bit surprised that you are loving the 10-2. The stack is well worth the cost. The size belies the performance- they are simply terrific.

Yes!!! I’ve been using this a lot! Its one of those channels in lower settings it’s like
Meh to me but when you turn it up this was the channel I got the most compliments on. I think honestly with thr frequency know the genzler distorion pedal with a HPF maybe all I need really to help cut

I’m thinking the genzler head is one of the few heads that can really eq mixing in other cabs an making them blend like if you have a genzler 15” like me an then mess with other 2x10s the genzler still sounded the same pushed the cabs ab then yet it also had more tones to offer. I feel like it’s one of the most versatile heads on the market

Those series 2 cabs have some serious depth!! I also found the need to roll off the bass a bit on the Magellan when using 2 BA410-3 cabs.

I found this to be a good thing… especially for those using the amp/cab without FOH support. The Lows/Highs and Mids are all there but can be easily tamed with the Magellan amp should you need. Perfect!!

If you haven’t got the MG-800 Footswitch yet, I highly recommend it! There’s something in that Drive channel that adds some musical character to your notes. Even without using large amounts of drive!!

I actually just ordered one today, the price is reasonable. My fat fingers kept messing with the gain knobs when activating the drive channel. I thought about snagging another 410-3 to give me a better angle to attack the button but the foot switch will have to suffice for now. Having the control at my feet makes sense, I play a lot of small stages and my amp is usually pretty hard to access on the fly.

I am continually floored by the sound of the BA410-3. I had a Darkglass head that I couldn’t get a good sound out of on any of my cabs so I gave it to my dad. I went over with the 410-3 and tried the Darkglass for fun and it was outstanding, best I have ever heard the head sound. I am not doing the heavily distorted metal thing anymore but if I were this rig would be perfect.

Just picked up a Magellan 800. I'm pairing with a Magellan 212T that I've had for years and so far I'm digging the sound. I can imagine this set up will be perfect for any gig I will play in the future.
