Yup, that pretty much sums up my life goals.
So if I say use the genzler head DI an I get a preamp pedal. How do a lot of you guys go about blending the two or getting “your tone”
To the FOH? Are a lot of you guys like just using the head like me. But I know with preamp pedals those will only affect how I sound on stage correct? The main DI still is the main “tone” so do alot of ya use your pedals DI? The heads? One of the bigger festivals I’ve played they did a mic cab/di blend which was amazing. I’m wondering like running DI to two channels one head DI one pedal/ preamp Di an Blend.

I have a Khan tube DI that I use with my Genzler rig when I want an old school tone. Since the through output is also processed through the tube circuitry, I just send that to the input of the MG350 and then EQ from there. Works well and I know that the sound I get on stage will mirror the sound that goes to FOH. I also have a very early Alembic F-2B (along with the IN-2 input module) for my Starfire, but to be honest, it doesn't get all that much use any more since it sounds so good with just the Genzler head and it's more to carry around and set up and it adds some noise. I have a Sushi Box Underground Accelerator if I want tube crunch and it has a Fender style tone stack, so that's a nice option. But most of the time, I just want the sound of the bass to be amplified as accurately as possible. If that doesn't sound perfect, then I deal with fixing it at the source.

Most players do not do a parallel blend like you describe because of the phase differences that create new problems with parallel signals.
In general, I recommend using the preamp into the effects return of the amp which eliminates this issue.
Alternatively, you can take the preamp into the amp’s instrument input (a serial signal path rather than parallel) which is better, but you still have the potential issues with adding 2 voicings together.
early report about the BA2–410–3:
I used it at one rehearsal, and then three gigs the following three nights. At first listen, I was hearing a real low mid bump around 110 Hz. Almost a little unnerving upon first listen, but I can say that the speakers really warmed up and deepened and smoothed out after let’s say 12 hours of playing. There is no longer that unpleasant emphasis, and I am loving this box! You can see I have it tilted back against one of my last remaining markbass products lol – – the little amp wedge. The low mid bump was much more pronounced when it was on the floor, and I basically had to use it with the wedge. Now it just sounds great either way, but that wedge is cool – – I use some thick nonslip cabinet liner to keep everything from sliding off. The sound man told me that this rig sounded a lot more natural and less boxy than what he had heard before in that same venue – – my acoustic array pro combo on top of a BA2-110-3. It makes sense with the large cabinet which is a similar volume to the upright bass, interestingly. I don’t hear quite as much detail as when I use my “abominable sound stack” (210,112,110 stack) but overall, I think it has a nice balance in the frequencies and a great fullness to it. The 49 pounds feels like much less to me, and I’ve been carrying it easily. Even with one arm braced against your body it’s not bad. I enjoy one box on the cart and I am getting really great capability and sound without bringing multiple boxes. Honeymoon still going!

For a single box, to me, and for my tone goals, this one (BA2-410-3) sounds the best of the Array Series for the upright bass. At least with my pick up – – the BA-115 has a little too much bottom—these tens really growl, and have a really nice mid range character and naturalness for the upright, and plenty of controlled low end without being boomy.

I have recently purchased a Nu Classic 212 and am awaiting its arrival tomorrow. I am currently downsizing my rig and am selling an old tube amp. (I’m getting older and my backs feeling it)!
My question is if the MG 350 would be sufficient to hang with a 2 guitar classic rock outfit. Loud but nothing too crazy. Or should I get the MG 800 and be done with it. I’ve gone down the rabbit hole trying to find answers and thought why not just go to the source (you guys) I would really appreciate any input. Oh! I have a Crash box 4 on the way too so the lack of overdrive would not be an issue, or would it?!

I would get the Guitar Center app and look for a used Magellan 800. The app will search their entire inventory around the country. I got mine for $499 and these things absolutely never break that I’ve ever heard of. You’ll get much greater dynamics and never have a want for more power.

Yeah, I got lucky. I had actually already bought one for that and then that $499 one showed on the app and I bought that and returned the first one! Lol.

Although I just might buy one from @ Genzler as I’ve always learned so much from them, reading this thread over the past few months. It’s inspiring to see such good service in care in this day and age.

yes, that's kinda the same for me and why I use my single old-school BA12-3 straight with the upright for everything I ever need volume for

The BA-112-3 for me, considering size and sound per pound, is unbeatable! I thought I could cull that one…but I can’t. I’m gonna leave it at a friend’s house for rehearsals

Definitely get the MG800. I use one with the NC212 and it is amazing.
I fully agree with the already stated “get the mg800 and be done with it” statement. It’s killer. The drive channel, whether used or needed, is tremendous. sometimes comes in handy if I don’t have my pedals. Nice having the power even if not needed.
The 800 has cured me of gas since I bought mine which is now 7 or 8 years? When did they come out?
Just been through the whole Preamp/DI thing. I have a Magellan 800. Tried a bunch of Darkglass (Infinity, Vintage Ultra, B7K Ultra, Microtubes X Ultra), Sansamp (dUg, BDDI, BD Programmable,VT Bass), EBS Microbass III, Ampeg SCR (SGT not available here for a while!) and Magellan Preamp DI, all through the "Aux in" on the 800 to keep the test fair. Would have kept the Magellan Preamp DI but liked the versatility of the Darkglass Infinity, which gave a sound close to the Magellan and offered three presets at my feet. Sent all the others back.
Wasn't truly happy with Infinity when comparing sound to my 800 so purchased Two Notes ReVolt. Not my cup of tea at all. Nothing sounded like the 800! Have now repurchased Magellan Preamp (which I should have kept in the first place, duh!!) and 4 on the floor for that bit of grit. In my opinion, the best sound by far. Sounds just like the 800 and I now have the overdrive as well. Job done. Jeff & Co. absolutely know their stuff!
