I have been throwing the thought around about picking up a 3rd cab to go along with my Kinetix 800 but I am having a tough time deciding which cabinet. Right now I have two of the series 2 BA 10 arrays. My original plan was to either put a NC 210, NC 12 or NC 15 on bottom and stack both 10" array cabs on top. I thought it would sound great, look cool and be a bit different from what everyone else has. However, Jeff thought that I'd be better off sticking with all array cabs so I have it narrowed down to two different options. Option 1 is to get the MG 350 -BA combo. This option not only gives me a 3rd BA 10 series 2 cab but includes a MG 350 which will run all three cabs and gives me another flavor when I want to change up from the tubed Kinetix 800. Option 2 is to get a BA 12 series 2 array so I'd have it on the bottom with two 10" array cabs stacked on top using strictly the Kinetix when running all 3 cabs. Also, If I choose the BA 12 do I get slanted as are my other BA 10 's cabs or straight? I'm concerned the steeper angle with all three cabs being slanted would potentially allow the Kinetix to slide or vibrant off. Option 1 is about $150 more than option 2 but not enough to be a deal breaker, I just want the better option. What would you guys do? Thanks

We still doin #’s? Late to the game but hey y’all! Really caught the fever with the Magellan 800 last fall. Tracked down a MG212T and love it so much I lined up a second. Just gotta come up with some cash. I talked to Jeff about the feasibility of running a 2ohm load with his cabs and got the thumbs up. About to have a modular “412” Genzler rig. =)

Do it! I can say for sure that a 412 Genz rig sounds massive.

Well, I didn’t necessarily decrease the size of my board with the addition of the Kinetix but I did make room for my Re/Q to be added back to the board.

I will likely pull that and the Broughton off once I pick up a Magellan Pre but for now I’m sticking with the Broughton as a DI backup for shows where I can’t run the Kinetix. I have it bypassed unless running off the DI and I like it as a DI because it has EQ and a DI volume so I can match it with the Kinetix DI gain in my IEMs.

And yes. I likely think about this stuff way too much. :thumbsup:

This may seem like a strange question but how do you guys go about adjusting the tone knobs etc. on your amp head to get the ideal sound you want. The reason I ask being the sound coming from my amp and speakers is so much different when I'm standing directly in front of the speakers adjusting the tone knobs on the amp head than when I stand back about 25 feet or so where I'm not in a position to make any needed amp adjustments or small teaks. So, it's almost like you need someone else standing by the amp turning knobs while you stand back listening and telling them what adjustments to make. Also, I noticed this with every bass cab I've ever had not just Genzler, that the lower frequencies sound really thin when standing right in front of the speaker cabs and don't seem to develop until I get much further away. Is this what you guys experience also? I guess this has something to do with the length of bass sounds waves, someone correct me if I'm wrong. If I stand playing right in front of my cabs I don't really hear deep bass or what the audience is hearing, how do you guys deal with that? Guitar players sure have it so much easier than us bass players do.

Quick question for those of you with Kinetix. I've used mine on a handful of gigs now and I've noticed that it feels like when I play runs or fills into the higher register of the bass I get completely lost in the mix. My pickups and tone are dimed on my Lakland PJ, I have the BA10-2 Series 2 cabinets and have never had issues hearing the bass in the mix before. I've eq'd some bass out and tried the lean setting while boosting mids & highs. I don't know if its a me thing but I've had a lot of Genz & Genzler gear over the years and never experienced this before. Last Genzler amp was Magellan 350 that I then Sold toward Mesa WD-800 which I then sold in favor of Kinetix. I love the amp and it's simplicity but can't get over the feeling I"m missing something or something is wrong with my setup. I'm typically cutting highs and mids.

I'm using the Kinetix and haven't had the issues you describe. For context though, I am playing active Spector Euros into the Kinetix. On my Euros I have the Bass almost fully boosted, the Treble Flat. The Kinetix I am pretty much running flat across the board with some gain dialed in and a slight boost of the High Mids.

I set up my amp while sitting on the floor in front of it. Once I get it to where I want it I use my wireless and walk varying distances from the amp to see how it translates. In the end I am using IEM's and FOH is basically just amplifying my tone so the amp is just for some light stage feel and monitoring.
