Genzler Amplification Club

It's here! Time to get busy.

I haven't run it through a cab yet, just DI out into a Metric Halo ULN-8 with Neumann KH80s/KH750.

The word of the day is: Tone!

Everything just sounds really good. I mostly ran it with the gain about 10 o'clock, so not too much overdrive. For the mic level out on the DI, I discovered I had to run the input boost, but with the DI set to line, it was fine either way.

Lean was a bit too lean for me, but the other settings are perfect. I see what people are saying about this obviating the need for a Noble or the like. Excellent depth and heft. In some ways, I miss the contour control of the MG350 but the improvement in tone more than makes up for it.

The amp, at least through the DI, is dead silent and the clarity is just wonderful, even with very deep and thick settings.

I can't wait to gig with it, but bandmates in both bands have fled to Italy, Greece, NYC, and other far flung destinations. July kicks in good, though, and in August we play at Levitt Pavilion again. All 8,000 reserved tickets have sold, so it will be nice to hear it through Panther PA in a wonderful outdoor spot.

It's a bit heavier than my MG350s, well, quite a bit, so I don't know if it qualifies as ultralight, but the tone is definitely ultra-heavy.

Thanks, Jeff and crew, for this truly excellent amp.

get the BA cabs this summer.

Yes…I was curious if anyone has tried it with the NC cabs. I have a 212 now and just picked up a 350. Let me in the club!

I have a small board with a Noble. Ran it into that setup last Friday at a small outdoor thing and it was really nice. P w rounds. I’m going to get to use the same setup in a couple weeks but with a P and flats.
YES, I have the NC115! ALso the NC115 paired with a generic custom 12 cab, although don’t need that right now. Plenty of bottom end as well as plenty of SPL with just the NC115 for most of what I play.

Yes, the Kinetix can absolutely do the quick, bright and clean, edgy type sound. In fact, to my ears, it does this slightly better than the Magellan (which I also love and have gigged for many years).

have you found a setting that will give you all that bright clarity, especially playing harmonics, and not squash it? I’m finding that I’m really happy with the slap sound in the way it rolls off a bit of the transient, but I feel like my harmonics played on the bass aren’t popping out like my Magellan 800. If I gain it up, it gets brighter, but then when I dig in, it gets a little squishy, which I don’t prefer.

To be honest, starting out with "all controls at noon" works pretty well for me (switch set to Fat). I have used a little Treble boost and Hi Mid boost at times, but at our last gig, I had the tone controls at noon, and it really sounded great up top, including harmonics, and nothing got squashed, even when I played loudly/dynamically. How do you set the EQ on your Magellan?

Here is the rig shot from the last gig:

Just joined the club! Kinetix 800 and NU-Classic 210. HOLY HELL, what a rig!!

Current rigs are:

Mesa Subway D800+ w/ Subway 212

Ampeg V4B w/Ampeg 212AV

Ashdown ABM 500 EVO II w/ (2) Orange OBC 112’s

I run IEM’s and frequently go ampless but I wanted a rig that was smaller and more focused to run on stage for some feel. Just arrived yesterday and I am completely blown away by how this rig sounds and feels. Also amazing how much low end and mids I can get from the 210. I thought it would be lacking compared to 12’s but boy was I wrong!

Nice rig, and it fits in some good company with your other gear. Thank you for choosing our gear.
Your rig of choice is the same one the Gregor from Bass The World used for his review of the new Kinetix 800. In talking with him, he had some of the same comments about the entire rig as you have. So much so that he's asked to keep the amp and cab as part of his rigs of choice when demoing instruments, going forward.

I saw that review. Gregor is such an enthusiastic guy! He's really funny.

I'm enjoying practicing a lot more, with the Kinetix going direct into my computer. I had used a regular DI box, but this is so much better, even set flat.

Now I'm thinking that I may have to sell both of my MG350s to get an MG800 and then set up my rig so I can select between which preamp section to use. It would be great if I could get a line out of the MG350. Would it cause damage to use the headphone out (using a TRS to avoid shorting the ring)?

Well if it’s great with the NU 210, it should be even better with my NU 212! :)

Waiting on MF to do the 48 mo no interest to pull the trigger. Of course it will probably be out of stock by the time that happens.

I was in the same boat when I ordered my second NC-212 last year. If you go ahead an place the order, you can lock in the financing and it will ship when they get them. I ordered Labor Day weekend and it shipped in November, I believe. Regardless, it was well worth the wait.
